yes I raced cars, amateur drag and then amateur road courses, for 15 years. In that time I had 2 car fires. One on the track and one on the road. In both cases a fuel leak. I have also wrecked a few times. I also did, and continue to do all the work on my cars. A car doesn't explode. A car can catch on fire and burn to the ground yes, but explode. No, that doesn't happen, outside of extreme high performance and nitrous oxide or propane tanks. Not that I'd expect many to give a fuck, but here's my perspective as a black, college aged male, that is also middle classed.
If a cop pulls me over I'm already anxious, because whether he's scared of me or not, too much shit has happened and I may be hurt or killed. I've always been wary of police because of the power dynamic that happens when you allow a lot of dickheads to be in control. My parents also educated me, telling me that police aren't always there to help you. In reality this is a factor for everyone but more so a norm for black people. Either way if I get pulled over I'm complying to the best of my ablity, because I don't want them to have more of an excuse to do something to me. I'll treat them with respect, whether they are deserving of it or not. But for those that don't? They shouldn't have lethal force used against them, unless they are a clear and present danger. I can't logically agree with the suspects actions, but I can't agree with the officers either. I've had white friends on 2 separate occasion act like smartasses, but not once did things get out of hand. The police who are often white are more forgiving and less hostile towards other whites. I bet you I'd not only be laughed at, but harassed if I asked an officer: Am I being detained? It's funny because that's a fair and legitimate question. Black people have a bias against cops, as cops do against blacks, but one side has a clear authority. As an enforcer of the law once said: " With great power comes great responsibility". I know a lot of people believe there's only a few shit cops, but being who I am, I haven't had the best experiences with the police, and I'm polite.
