In the north at least the specialized job market is pretty fucked, you should get an Engineering degree first. That 10k will be gone faster than you can imagine. I wouldn't personally recommend it, I have 10 years of tech experience but because I don't have a degree getting a job unless you know someone is tough.

Otherwise unskilled labor is fine. IT/game testing can get you a leg up while you work on the degree or connections as well.

Once their annual contract is up, they can choose to stay with the company if the company wants to keep them or they can bounce to a different one in literally any large city in CA so rent, food, drinks, furnishings, car payments, they don't give a shit to their cost (and less stuff to carry/move if they want to live somewhere else) so they pay whatever the asking price is if it just looks nice, driving up rent in both that way and contributing to the cities getting overpopulated/crowded even more.
