We've had big youtubers, like Fred, RWJ, NigaHiga, and Smosh in the past. But once Pewdiepie ascended there was no turning back. I don't know if it's still a thing but for a while his gaming channel and personal vlog channels were #1 and #2 most subscribed YouTube pages. Completely different content but still incredibly followed and looked at. It was insane. He's most likely the reason YouTube has started shifting it's monetization policies because of the success he had. I have no idea what happened to all of his money for him to supposedly be struggling a tad, but Pewdiepie has a ton of influence on young people in North America and Europe. This is a big deal.

System of objects is excellent and a lot more accessible, it gives a good platform for understanding what he means. The book isn't structured very coherently and is more a collection of related essays. Well worth it if you can grasp the concepts, very eye-opening.
