I saw a trailer for a movie, I want to say late nineties. In it, a guy goes through a humiliating divorce as his wife leaves him for a lesbian, taking everything, including the dog. It's a comedy. There was a movie back in the mid-90s which threw Geena Davis's character together with a black lead actor (forget who), and the interracial romance was so non-existent in movies at that time that the media kind of had to explain it away as I recall. There were a lot of "watershed" moments like that I remember happening over time. Another was in 1989-90 when the Fox network first appeared and really raunchy sitcoms, often black-dominated, first appeared on TV. Prior to that, sitcoms had been goofy and heartwarming, if still terrible.
