Masculinity in cinema

Were the 80's the last true era of masculinity in movies and the glorification of it? Do you think we will ever have strong white male role models in cinema again? It seems like all action stars are pretty boys now or they've changed once beloved characters into black guys.

Yeah, it seems like the last few years have had no real masculine characters. Like even action movie male figures are being made into beta cucks even if they are the lead role. Also they make it seem that women are just as strong if not stronger then men.

They're all faggots compared to Lee Marvin.

I agree.

It was a steady, long decrease.

White masculine protagonist renaissance when?

Masculinity declined mostly in terms of personality.

Being in control of your emotions is considered "toxic masculinity".

You ever watch Commando? That was purposely bad schlock that wouldn't make bank at the box office these days.

This. Its the Troskyite long march employed through cultural Marxism which is creating this sort of nu-80's sub culture. Think about it, Trump himself is an icon of 80's masculinity and, the collective unconscious of young people who have been told to be ashamed of their masculinity are now adopting this culture as a kind of entry into their own masculinity.

It looks like such an energetic scene. 10/10 would love to see it here in the US.

All of those action movie main characters are psychopaths. Real men don't behave in such a fashion and go on killing sprees - they work together in teams to accomplish goals. In essence the endless waves of teams the action star guns down are more manly and masculine than he is - just like with spree shooters in real life. The action star archetype was created for those people as a definition of false manliness no one can live up to and function as a normal human being(the invulnerable hero whose anger and vengeance crescendo in a rampage massacre), they've often been ineffective and dysfunctional their entire lives and incapable in team work so they lash out with this type of psychopathic hypermasculinity as their last hurrah. Masculinity is defined by role acceptance and team work towards a common positive end(as this is how most successful males become successful and remain so) - not grandstanding and rebellion and rage (which are the tools of teenagers and women and children). That's the real red pill.

Death wish was pretty fuckin sick though f'am.

If pol´s theory about the jewish conspiracy is true then why were white masculine alpha male traits ever shown to begin with. that is, if the goals of hollywood as you say, is to undermine the white race trough cinmatic subversion then why would they first start doing it in the 90´s and not before that?

Maybe the russian guy talking abut cycles of subversion was right and that the time frame fits with the mark of the 90s as the beginning of the ideological subversion known as infiltration. Now it has been normalized leading to the clash of the status quo sheeple and the resistance group (left vs right basically)

It had to be a gradual process. I regularly went to the movies in the 80s and saw a lot of shit that went over my head then but which seems to be part of the same process, although it wasn't so much about stoking racial or anti-white conflict as much as about breaking down the family by encouraging a culture of promiscuity and laughing about sex -- the early 80s were surprisingly pornified in that respect. Watch "Young Doctors in Love" on Youtube (still can't believe my parents took me to see it in the cinema!) and you'll see a lot of it even then.

I love Trump, but his political success reminds me of that scene in "Back to the Future" where Marty McFly goes back to 1955 and tells a disbelieving Doc that Ronald Reagan is the president. If I went back to the 80s in a time machine now, would anyone believe me?

Its the frog in a boiling pt of water metaphor: If you drop the frog in pot of boiling water, it will try to jump out immediately. If you drop it in a pot of water over a cooker, it will stay. If you gradually increase the temperature, however, will he notice that he's being slowly boiled alive?

Its about attention spans.

Glad Arnold didn't do it. We probably would have never have gotten Predator.

My point still stands. Europe is dangerous right now, but during a political cycle next year?

Makes sense. But to back it up with facts you would need to investigate the cinematic discourse of the movie production industry before the 90s. I would hypothesize that there were few to no movies with contra-ideological messages (say a pro-communism or socialism production) before doing that.

Then you could examine the, as points out the gradual process starting from the 90s. That we would hypothesize to be characterized by an expontital increase in movie material and movie discourse with pro contra-ideological messages in them.

If there is a significant increase in the subversive messages against the destruction of the family, degrading white society and promoting feminism, individuality, degeneracy in general etc, then you would have a pretty good research based argument for the actual conspiracy itself.

However, the movie industry is most of the time simply a mirror of society itself; it produces what people want to see. In addition though, the movie indstry definitely also promotes behavior and shapes attitudes, so its a mixed relationship of influence and effect.

Movies are weird in a very fascinating way. Pure form of propaganda when used strategically.

The weird thing is that, even during the 80s, people knew that one day 80s retro would be a big thing.

I saw a trailer for a movie, I want to say late nineties. In it, a guy goes through a humiliating divorce as his wife leaves him for a lesbian, taking everything, including the dog. It's a comedy. The point is that masculinity demands that you're just going to have to grin and bear it. You cannot even verbally complain. He has a black neighbor, a Morgan Freeman type role but I think it's a different actor, whom he goes to for advice and who helps him to embrace passive victimhood. I have not been able to trace this movie. I think it's important because they tried to do too much too fast here, irritated audiences, and you really see it all at once. If we could find this movie and spread it, it would really force people to see the agenda.

gamespot.com/articles/blood-dragon-2-not-happening-says-far-cry-4-dev/1100-6423477/

The real reason Masculinity is being attacked is because a population that strives for self-reliance, self-governance, and earned self-respect is a populace that does not require much in the way of rulers.

We've been duped into looking at this attack along gender lines and it keeps everyone from noticing the real target.

Welp, I come from a military family, I would only be preserving my family's historical heritage.

I like the idea of actually doing something to change the world for the better as well.

It's weird that if they did a macho movie today, it would just be gay.

Long hair muscle dudes, listening to heavy metal, riding motor bikes with leather just isn't cool anymore.

fugg m8 Blood Dragon was a great game, pure 80's nostalgia

trust me, it's degenerate. I have seen it in the cinema so at least it looked good but if I had to watch it at home, I wouldn't be able to sit it through

That's not what was cool about them in the first place.

Nah, that would be GTA: Vice City.

This. Women at their most independent are more strongly conformist than any man. Women who truly do think for themselves encounter that glass ceiling that wasn't a problem for the con artists at Theranos, or James Cameron's wife, or anyone willing to play the game.

Yeah for a few hours I got to live in the 80's again.

I hope the 80's nostalgia genre keeps growing.

>What is cape heroes

its called "Orchestral hit"

...

There was a movie back in the mid-90s which threw Geena Davis's character together with a black lead actor (forget who), and the interracial romance was so non-existent in movies at that time that the media kind of had to explain it away as I recall. There were a lot of "watershed" moments like that I remember happening over time. Another was in 1989-90 when the Fox network first appeared and really raunchy sitcoms, often black-dominated, first appeared on TV. Prior to that, sitcoms had been goofy and heartwarming, if still terrible.

All those cape heroes look like sissy men compared to Arnold, Van Damme, and Stallone

Nice one fampai. What did you think of Trevor Something's ne album? I was surprised to hear so much hip-hop influences in it.

youtube.com/watch?v=lQxIwQu2Rkc

Red Circle and Rolling Thunder are two movies I gave up watching the first time because they seemed so cheesy and cheap and dumb looking.
I was totally wrong, they're both amazing pillars of cinema and of maaculinity in art, and the cheesiness is a deliberate stylistic decision.
Being a weak beta because you think muscles make you gay is self-weakening (not accusing you, I used to be in this boat). Part of retaking society will be restoring old boundaries and definitions.

Thanks tax-dodging bro, I've been wondering about that for years (actually decades).

>Mfw Ironic vaporwave turned into a love for synthwave

>Ironic memes shitting on PC elitists have turned into a resurgence of masculinity

I think the millennials have used meme magic to actually revive the 80's again, by god. Good times are ahead, gentleman.

Max Landis talked about this at one point--we actually had a serious upsurge of Tough Marine Guy protagonists recently. Ever since 9/11 action films have been mostly terrified of portraying vulnerable heroes. All of the action flick protags are ex-military guys who kick the fuck out of people, they're never Bruce Willis, this alcoholic cop whose wife hates him, they're Channing Tatum or John Cena.

The 80s were the same way, it was the Cold War, America was BIG and STRONG and its heroes were also BIG and STRONG and badass, and AMERICAN.

After 9/11 it changed, Our heroes are still big and strong and tough, but instead of having a sense of humor and a sort of devil-may-care attitude, they're all these brooding, vengeful ex-military men. It's projection of the hardest sort. The American psyche wants to project "Don't fucking touch us or we'll kill you all" now, whereas before it wanted to project "We will free the shit out of you" before.

Synth wave is weird for me atleast because you'll have very few awesome, varied, and complex songs that sound great. And then a whole shit ton that are repetitive as fuck and sound the same.
Maybe 1 out of 20 songs I can jam too.

Mitch Murder however, every single one of his songs are distinct and fantastic. Even his remixes are fantasic, he makes pretty gay songs into pretty bad ass ones. Most worthy of note for me are his remixes of Futurecop's Starworshipper and Kiesza's Hideaway.

Kinda sucks that synthwave is far past it's peak which occurred between 2011-2013.

Jojo is our last hope. Lets hope the nips can fix this

Its all liked ironically. The same millenials who go on about their so called love of the 80s write about toxic masculinity.

It remains to be seen if this will become post-ironic or new sincerity.

There was a series of unwatchably bad movies in the nineties seeking to normalize homosexuality, they almost all bombed. Michael Medved is a dishonest neocon but he has done uniquely good work exposing the mechanations of the media campaign to normalize homosexuality. He found their discussions in academic journals and summarized them. Once you see the pattern you see it everywhere; cf the Simpsons episode with the guest appearance by John Waters.

yeah the 60's and 70's had bearded hippies, sex crazed morons, spies, and giant monsters.
The 80's had Schwarzenegger,Stallone,Lundgren,Van Damme,Seagal,Norris,Reynolds,Bronson,Connery,Gibson,Lee,Chan,Weathers,Ventura,Ford,Jones.and of course Eastwood and Van Cleef.
The 80's had mainly badasses that would make the cucks of today piss themselves in the first ten minutes

There were some pretty good debates on it on Cred Forums when it come out, about just the fact that it was as mainstream as it was being proof of moral decay. Surprising since that board has been a shit tier leddit satellite for years now.

Hellboy and Wolverine are oldschool as them (well they are made from oldshool source material..)and Batmen is edgy aristocratic as Bond.

9/11 was a mistake

t. george bush

There was a certain darkness or self-pity creeping into popular culture even in the early 90s, with the whininess of grunge music, the goth subculture or the emergence of TV shows whose characters were alienated from society and pointlessly hostile towards each other (like "The X-Files"). Gangster rap also became big in the 90s and that was definitely brooding and vengeful in its own way.

Its about the apperance of the actors, I could not imagine any of the current year action stars being a fucking terminator unless it was the liquid metal one. they just arent big enough guys anymore

always remember: following somebody in his footsteps means you will never overtake him.

I don't know about that. A lot of the metal fans have turned to liking some of the stuff Dance With the Dead, Gost, and Perturbator come out with.

Although yes, I'd agree that a lot of it, especially vaporwave, is just redditors liking it ironically as a meme.

>the Simpsons episode with the guest appearance by John Waters.

Yeah, remember that. Also "Philadelphia" with Tom Hanks. Everyone became obsessed with AIDS once Rock Hudson died of it in the 80s, and that was how gays were turned into a heroic victim class even though they were dying from a completely preventable disease -- it was all Ronald Reagan's fault they couldn't stop fucking each other, supposedly. After that it was only a matter of time until the Pride parades and all the cancerous LGBTQ stuff we have now. Prior to that, queers in pop culture were treated as a joke and somewhat pitiful.

I'm not criticizing it from a musical standpoint, but it represented an abrupt shift in tone culturally from the general optimism or at least self-confidence of 80s music. Like "heroin chic" in fashion advertising, its overall effect was degenerative on white people's self-confidence and coincided with the first big wave of PC on campuses which did the same thing.

youtube.com/watch?v=xtZOQelhsoA

Yeah, that is a real clunker, self-defeatingly clumsy. A tertiary character who provides background exposition is an evil white male, so even though he's a good guy, he is always shown panicking and wimpering, usually in contrast to his perfectly calm wife. Samiel L. Jackson's character is introduced in a righteous blackmail scam, trapping rich white men as they cheat on their wives. The bad guy is a white male psycho.

Wow this truly is next level shit posting.
Australia how can you even compete with this

That's the one. Very unusual in its racial dynamics for the time, and lots of people noticed. Now we have smooth black protagonist and (ineffectual) white male villain combos in media all the time.

>Implying the Driver was going to stick around for anything anyways

Also, I have a personal theory that they guy wasn't actually autistic, due to his confrontation near the end with Shannon.

>T. sort of psychefag

Correction, it's the last era of WHITE masculinity. Notice it's all about nigs now.

Shouldnt go around snapping fuccbois necks famalam

...

The Y chromosome is shortening so it's become nature for men to be less masculine.

Ogga Boogas are the only people I can think off who are still similar to 80's men, dunno why they aren't affected.

Also feminism and white knights are trying to fix body standards, cuck a duck liberals.

To maintain the "helpless male/empowered female" theme, there's an awkward and completely unnecessary scene where Davis dolls herself up and mock-seduces him, and he has no idea what's happening.

Watching a generic American cop show.

> white female detective
> her partner, black male. sparks also fly.
> hispanic boss
> only white male is either quirky autopsy doc or some goofy young detective

In the course of the show, they encounter:

> white male criminal(s). for a twist, sometimes white female criminal.
> black or hispanic good guys, who help out
> white female judge. black male judge. asian female judge. black female judge. asian male judge. some goddamn eskimo judge.
> black male prosecutor, tough but fair
> repulsive white male defence attorney
> oh and the jury member who gives out the verdict is never a white male

This works on every show with the possible exception of Blue Bloods and the pic related. It's so predictable I'm guessing they'll have to come up with something new soon. Like a surprise twist. "Ooh the perp was black!"

So what's up with that, America?

pointfighting was a mistake.

>Necrophelia

why tho? Was Refn trying to remake the sort of off color gore genre movies you saw in the 80's and 90's , and thought

"This isn't degenerate enough"?

Atleast we aren't airing hardcore sex of niggers with white women in our television shows like Europe...yet.

There are lots of rural white men and small-town blue-collar types who are still masculine, which always makes me wonder if the theory of estrogen in urban water supplies isn't correct. Who knows?

British TV shows are even worse, I find. Helen Mirren's detective character was coalburning as far back as the early 90s.

There was actually gta clone Scarface game released in 06.
It was called Scarface: The world is yours.

Severely underated.
It took place mostly in Miami but there was also a huge second map based on Columbia.

It was also brutally gory, including limp aputations and an insane amount of blood.
Also if you fuck up a coke deal. The dudes beat the shit out you and start pissing on you.

As I said to you in the other thread, educated people love those shows and imagine that their storylines are informed by actual cases.

crank was a generic action flick but crack 2 was more like a parody of the action genre in general and it was fucking great.

This accounts for the disbelief they show when you tell them a basic fact about crime in real life, such as that blacks in the US are something like twenty times more likely to kill whites than vice-versa. It isn't that way on TV, so how can it be true? The mass media is by far the biggest culprit in the ongoing cultural suicide of the West.

This makes no sense, If he cared about monetization, he should have asked the fucking owner of the channel to let him have YT royalty's or he'll remove the audio.

Nope, instead, some fucking liberal pussy told him about his music being used in this politically incorrect video and in response he said he doesn't want to appear in the same group as the right wingers and removed the audio. There's some pictures on twitter on his account of that liberal fuck snitching about the With Open Gates video... Shame he makes decent music but he's literally the weak nu-male beta this board has made a meme out of.

Was Hobo With A Shotgun supposed to take place in the 80's?

It's not just the water. Plastics are full of xenoestrogens and fucking everyone is eating and drinking out of those.

As a man living in modern society you HAVE to compensate for all that shit by exercising and eating meat (which now has some shady shit in it too, thanks joos), garlic and whatever helps you regain some of your masculinity.

My highly educated sister watches Law and Order like it's crack. Unlike purely fictitious cop shows L&O claims to base its stories on actual cases. I am actually familiar with some of the cases. Visiting her, I was stunned by how coked up the stories get. Blacks become whites, molesters become Satanic mutilators, victims become perpetrators. Occasionally they are based. They were brutally honest about the Shomrim being a molester-protecting supremacist scam, and they got in trouble for showing blacks as criminals.
And they're the best one, all the others just compose out of whole cloth.

Bruce Lee died in the 70s and Bronson, Van Cleef and Eastwood had their best movies then
I will say that Death Wish 3 is the best one tho

BRING THE 1980s BACK
VOTE FOR TRUMP

Decent, had some amazing action scenes in it

Still had "muh stronk women" tropes in it. Pretty epic, but then again this is just working on the magic of another 80's classic.

Even then Mel wasn't in it. If they had him there to drop some subtle red pills it would've been a 10/10.

It's those goddamn feminazis. Soon enough all movies will be all strong female characters and all the guys will either be evil or borderline retarded, like that new fucking Ghostbusters shitfest.

The only stronk woman in Fury Road was Furiosa, the rest were babbling pussies.

All through the 80s masculinity was caricatured at best and ridiculed most of the time.
I had one guy who grew up in the 80's tell me that he thinks being a real man is, in fact, acting as a character.

80's pop culture is responsible for numale.

Its not like the Alien films where Ripley has to rely on tools like a flippin flamethrower to defend herself. Its kind of like when Buffy the Vampire was a thing and this m5ft 100lb girl would go around punching holes in walls and wielding battle axes. Except in this case, theres no magic.

Yeah I kind of feel that, definite shift after 9/11. You have some fantastic movies in the 90s and 80s. Now we can't use the american hero as a template, bit of a shame, I want that era to come back.

Masculinity is fucking stupid.

Fair point. But yea I think Alien did the female protagonist the best.

>fucking leaf
>working on masculinity renaissance

Ripley is definitely the peak of realistic female protagonists in action movies, at least imo.

The Matrix comes to mind it was way to finish the millennium. Psychological drama's are in vogue, they're everywhere and probably for good reason. House of Cards, Mr Robot etc.

I like Major Motoko from GITS

She was even described by her creator that she is supposed to be "strong but feminine"

meh. I really don't think synthwave fit with that movie too well. Its sort of this weird mix between trendy nostalgia music and a film using too many modern film techniques/ themes to go along with it.

I MEAN BODY MASS *ALONE*....

>only 90's kids will remember the trench coat aesthetic

Kusanagi was a breath of fresh air in anime in general. Compared to all the female protagonists of anime today who are all 'slice of life' stereotypes that are either too tsundere or yandere or just ditzy broads who can barely contribute anything other than looks.
Strong but feminine is definitely right.
She's one of the better, well written characters to come out of Japan

Yes. Ronald Reagan was masculine and he made it ok to be a man. Look at the people who hated Reagan (and still do). Look at them! They are all the kind of people who make up the nu-male movement today.

Look a this opening scene from the movie To Live and Die in LA. This is masculine.

That's an issue that annoys me with anime in general nowadays, everyone is a stupid fuck or an utter nu-male.

In the 90's you had better written characters and more in depth story plots on average. Nowadays every male anime protagonist is an incompetent, shy, woman fearing shut in.

No wonder people laugh at those who watch modern anime.

I agree with the anime; I loved Ninja Scrolls, Bebop, and Outlaw Star. Tenchi Muyo was the only one I consider acceptable. Gundam Wing was great.

Japan has changed, young populace are not getting together probably because of lack of resources.

>An exception does not break the statistical average

Sure, you have anime like JoJo, or the one you mentioned, but on average most anime are not the same as in the 90's when they focused more on story and character

Too true man.
In anime of today we have things like oversensitive betas and weeaboos in the show.

Seed has been planted on what could likely become a life-long pursuit of content creation. Pro masculinity, pro white, pro family, pro heroism, pro nationalism, pro Western Civilization, pro goodness, truth, beauty. Have the skills, connections and drive to make it a reality. Could still be a ways away, but you'll know it when you see it.

Stand Alone's Motoko was awesome.
I really like a lot of her dialogue in the first movie as well.

It did. I swear Gundam was fantastic. It had politics mixed in with mechas which shouldn't detract from the series, Wing I really remember fondly because I could keep up with what was going on. I think there was another piece of anime that had dark themes;

Blue Submarine and Metropolis. Both really went beyond what was necessary.

>synthwave is far past it's peak which occurred between 2011-2013
Pants on head retarded; no one knew anything about this shit in 2013

You people don't know how much commies hate masculinity and self-reliance. Just look at what critics said about Conan back in the day, the quintessential white adventure movie that paid homage to masculine culture.

Schwarzenegger's appearance in the role of Conan evoked images of Siegfried, the role model of the "Aryan blonde beast", in the lecturer's mind.[120] The notion of racial superiority, symbolized by this Aryan hero, was a criticism given by J. Hoberman and James Wolcott; they highlighted the film's Nietzschean epigraph and labeled its protagonist as Nietzsche's übermensch.[182][183] Ebert was disturbed by the depiction of a "Nordic superman confronting a black", in which the "muscular blond" slices off the black man's head and "contemptuously [throws it] down the flight of stairs".[34] His sentiment was shared by Adam Roberts, an Arthurian scholar, who also said Conan was an exemplar of the sword and sorcery films of the early 1980s that were permeated in various degrees with fascist ideology. According to Roberts, the films were following the ideas and aesthetics laid down in Leni Riefenstahl's directorial efforts for Nazi Germany.

Robin Wood (gay Marxist, check his page on Wikipedia), a film critic, suggests that in most cases, there is only a thin veneer between individualism and fascism; he also said that Conan is the only film in that era to dispense with the disguise, openly celebrating its fascist ideals in a manner that would delight Riefenstahl.[197]

The feminist movement experienced a backlash during the opening years of the 1980s and action films then were helping to promote the notions of masculinity.[200][201] Women in these films were portrayed as whores, handmaidens, or warriors and clad in flesh-revealing outfits.[191][202] Conan gave its male audience a manly hero that overcame all odds and adversity, delivering them a fantasy that offered escape from the invasion of radical "strong feminist women" in their lives.[203][204]

Pretty good cruising music.

Best action movie since the 80s

Well the concept of communism was jewish from its conceptions, especially when you look at Marx's theory on social alienation and the concept of the vanguard in the coming class wars which he theorized about. Its not anti-masculinity, as it is anti non-semetic masculinity.

Jewish masculinity has more to do with verbal IQ, intelligence, and moichent behavior; look how stupid these big dumb goys are and look how easy it is to screw them over. Its the entire basis for post-modernism: if its too hard for you to read because of the verbal content and syntax, then too bad.

80's dystopian future movies turned out to be pretty accurate.

The media is literally just like in The Running Man and Robocop.
