Capitalists are used to building things, and getting stuff built. Socialists and communists won't even bother fighting, they are too lazy. The Americans did this with war-time propaganda that arguably works better than outright coercion. It's hard to judge because the example they're up against historically are the Russians, who are fucking insane

the americans essentially socialized their economy mate. rationing, mass printing of money and state directed production using massive monetary incentives, shutting out all other business lines. long term capitalism is ofc better, but in a war resources mobilization and human mobilization is what counts, and an equal capitalist/commie fight would see the reds holding an advantage with their greater state control of the economy and higher taxes

The congress does control the money printing, they pass spending projects and sell a bond of which the main buyer is the fed who has to print to pay, so its not like they just print at will.

Plus the original fed was supposed to buy only corporate paper which when repaid was effectively again out of the economy(actually a brilliant idea) that was the so called elastic money supply, but then congress hijacked it on WWII and since then they are only allowed to buy government paper.

congress has no handle on the money supply, all they can do is burrow from the fed, which does indirectly influence the money supply, but ultimately no-one but the fed could just ask for the money supply to be increased
