Money is created as debt. We have to pay interest on government loans because our government refuses to make its own debt-free money. So no matter how much money we borrow we can't pay back the debt.

An example:

When you need a loan the bank creates a line of credit. They create it by making a computer entry (since they do not need any capital to give out loans), there is no real money. You have to go and do PRODUCTIVE work to pay the loan back. When you pay the loan back you are effectively destroying money (since money is debt). Except the bank gets to keep all the interest it makes off you.

Another analogy:

Banking is very much like online piracy. In the same way it only takes one person to buy a movie and upload it to the internet for thousands to copy and use. Banks only need a small amount of capital to give out 100x it's value in loans.
