Alright grandpa

Thanks, I heard this exact song in Wawa yesterday and I was wondering what it was called.

When somebody has forgot more than you know. You might wanna pay attention son

>When somebody has forgot more than you know
Dementia isn't something to be proud of, gramps.

You don't know a goddamn thing about how the world works. You probably should just shut your whore mouth. I want to speak to adults here.

That's a lot of implying you're doing there, newfag.

I fucking hate Autists like you. Just let it go faggot. Maybe next time you won't get BTFO.0

still the best dance song ever

It's too bad MTV took a colossal shit. Watching old videos like that really takes me back. I was 5 in 83 so I don't remember this one but I remember every Michael Jackson video there was. Headbangers ball was the shit.
Don't mind the young little effeminate newmale faggots. They don't know how to act in the presence of real men.

80's women were fucking magical creatures

The girl of my 12 year old dreams

damn right

I was 8 years old in 1983. I remember thinking the 1984 Los Angeles olympics were great.

Then Rap music.... hip hop drugs aids governments niggers pakis aids paedophiles recessions unemployment divorce and now im 41 and thats my life story

takes me back. still a good song till this day

youtu.be/Lur-SGl3uw8

That's not what oldfag means

while we're on the subject of my imaginary girlfriend, she's going to be playing in America for the first time at the end of this month and the beginning of Oct

that's sad user
And the saddest thing is that UK doesn't have any good rock bands anymore

Fuck off old bag. Get with the times go out and suck a big cock.

The UK used to have really good bands

youtu.be/JeTw_p_WglY

A time when MTV actually played music and was cool. Remember the video of Rockwell Somebody's Watching Me as kid too, brings back memories.

youtube.com/watch?v=7YvAYIJSSZY

I think it's the time when we started replacing sugar with corn syrup and it fucked out brains up user.
Doobs, checked! A lot of the 80s stuff holds its own even today.

youtube.com/watch?v=ErnMC7xokQ8

I'm glad I don't drop acid anymore
That shit would've scared me for life.

>the one furiously masturbating

I think the 80's generation was the last to really feel the threat of a nuclear war as a reality

AHHH, comfy in here.

I remember they used to play this at the skating rink

fuck leafs I hate them

Oldfag here. I remember this very well. Electric boogie era.

I didn't watch anything in 1983 because I was on permanent Grateful Dead tour.

I didn't watch any tv between 1981 and 1990

Another good UK band
youtu.be/PUzzx-Kb3WE

Saw this live during the first Powerslave tour in the states. Copped my first fingerbang after the show.

Saw this show ...

Jerry Garcia's 40th birthday.. we stopped on the way back from Red Rocks on the '82 Summer Tour and saw this in OKC then caught Starlight Theatre in KC,MO then the Keil Aud in STL.

. I lost one job over this but got hired by the company at another location with a promotion.

Gen X is your friend. It's the Boomers that need to go.

If nobody was over 25 you'd all literally be newfags.

Yeah. We were bashing boomers before it was cool.

Without the Dead there would be no Phish

If you weren't banging your head in the 80s you were a faggot.

Fuckin shit, Basquait was in the Rapture video, never knew that, sick shit. Grandmaster Flash didn't show up.

>Jean-Michel Basquiat make cameo appearances. Basquiat was hired when Grandmaster Flash did not show for the filming.

Sound familiar?

Kowabunga dood!

Who remembers this show?

Watched Herbie play it live on tour. Had those kicking legs all in a row doing their robotic Rockettes thing. Herbie's a good guy.

youtube.com/watch?v=nChgPNldOn4

Can tell you weren't there.
Candy ass poser boys got their asses kicked at true metal shows.

This was the shit!
It was tough to find over here, but you could get video tapes.

Take your hairspray and your power-ballads and fuck off. 80s metal was shite except for a few bright spots here and there.

No one I knew was listening to hair bands.
83?
Sabbath
Ozzy
Motorhead
AC/DC
Saxon
Michael Schenker
Ufo

obligatory

Dude, Ozzy *still* wears makeup.

this didn't play out how you hoped it would did it?

Fucking Motorhead!
I saw them with Slayer, top notch show

He hasn't done anything good since Randy died.

Oldfag checking in

Was in college back in '83. Always hated the bands of the time. What an awful time for music.

Lemmy maintained a based attitude in metal when metal started getting gay till thrash rose up.
Check out "The Decline of Western Civilization, the metal years"

etc...

Silicon generations can't understand the feeling.

youtube.com/watch?v=_pqC563bX_w

...

The 70s were superior to the 80s in every way. Real metal and hardrock. Not that fake glam and hair metal nonsense.

youtube.com/watch?v=co9yv2NjyWs

The record companies weren't interested in what young people wanted to hear.
They were looking to sell stuff to boomers still as they were such a huge share of the market.
Radio stations were also leary of playing anything that would be too much for those aging hippies.
That's why punk never got any push from the industry at the time beyond some critics who felt it was time for something new.

Ok, if we're posting mtv favorites,

youtu.be/Nv0efmUKP9s

this is clearly the case.

if you couldn't see Led Zeppelin , The Who with Kieth Moon, The Allman Brothers with Duane, Pink Floyd you literally missed out on the greatest rock and roll music ever.

we knew this with the Dead too even though they still could bring it enough to get you off your ass and dancing they were obviously in their downhill afterglow of the 70's peak.

alas my first concert was seeing The Beach Boys in 1979 I had no older brothers

Well this post started talking about early 80s.
The glam thing didn't really start abusing the airways till mid-late 80s.
And the sad thing is to this day when you mention metal, everyone thinks you're talking about Bon Jovi or poison.
By then we had found Suicidal Tendencies, Exodus, and pre sellout Metallica.

> if you couldn't see
You forgot Lynyrd Skynyrd on that list.

I grew up in Macon; well-acquainted with the Allmans. Capricorn Records was king. Wet Willie was even better.......

Quit living in the past, failure.

Id did.. I suppose the Oulaws could make it along with a few other

here's a show I attended I thought was pretty decent as a 19 year old

youtube.com/watch?v=CdSiSF7tz5o

Yep. My first concerts were at Woodstock when I was a young boy of only 5 years old. Remember bits and pieces of it.. Also saw Zep in' 73 at Madison Square Garden. Were the Beach Boys still decent back in '79?

I always felt Dickey never got the credit when it was really his playing that most people remember when thinking about the Brothers.

Ad nauseam.

I don't even remember if they were all there.. I mean I think they had split up around that time ..it may not have been the full original lineup also it was at the Boston Garden and my set was at the far opposite end of the arena.. I couldn't remember a single note of it to save my life.

>pre sellout Metallica.
Nothing wrong with selling our to get bigger audiences. Metallica's only horrid record is St Anger. Music is still good even if it isn't as heavy as it used to be.

I still drive an AW11, you cannot convince me they've made a better car.

If I had two hundred grand I'd upgrade to the 2017 acura nsx though god damn

Garage days revisited was their last good album

You see any other bands in '79?

This was the best thing since Monty Python, thanks Brits.

Yes the 70s were better but I was talking about the 80s
If you think that Frampton, Steve Miller & Cheap Trick were top 40 pop music back then, which is usally the lowest form of musician, things were good.

I remember when I saw Cream back in 2005 at the Madison Square Garden.

more often than not people I told ;"I saw Cream..." expecting amazed surprise there was instead confused ignorance.. " Cream? What's that?" I remember being just aghast so many people had no idea who Cream were.. sad.

Agreed, that show was aces

I keep forgetting MTV was down in the past, damn shame what it turned into. The googs were singing about herbals even back then amazing.

I remember thinking the freaks waving their arms around in the halls all looked mentally deranged, lol

>Steve Miller
One of the worse successful musicians of all time. Meaningless lyrics, and subpar guitar work. Makes me wonder how the guy made it into the rock and roll hall.

>You can only post itt if you watched this in 1983
If that's MTV or a music video, I didn't watch it.

However, I was watching some soap opera or some other shit on TV when Walter Cronkite interrupted to announce that President John Kennedy had been shot in Dallas, Texas.

Another song that owes its riff to Chic's "Good Times."

Nile Rodgers talks about how "Good Times" became the beat for "Rapper's Delight."

No offense, I can't so simply trust the sensibilities of kids who grew up comparatively with much much easier lives than what my generation saw.

Sure, there was more technology around for 90s kids but we grew up and grew into adults watching the country slip far far away. You lost howdie doodie and the tech boom made your transition into the world much easier because cash was everwhere and there wasnt 40 years of stagnant wages.

Honestly, I don't know how you can't stand listining to the dead.

And i'm not sure many people know who Clapton is either.

A little harsh.
I could pick out 100 worst successful musicians from the last 5 years.

for somone who all their life was healthy, strong, fully able and gifted in mnay ways. had unlimted opportunities and success with females when they starts eroding its very difficult.. stress is less sucessful;yy handled.. the tolls it takes leave more damage behind and its clear at a certain point its only going to get worse and worse.

This is a very depressing thing to have to realize .. and the thing is all the time you're drawing on your past experiences which were from your healthy virile youth but your present feedback is all difficulty and an increasing awareness of the progressing debility.

I have great genetics .. only thing is my parents were both much older. dad was 43 and mother was 40 when I was conceived.. research appears to show children of older people who escape any congenital defects have other problems later in life.

I am doing everything I can find to keep healthy but its clearly a losing battle and the losses come faster, sooner and at an increasing cost.

Glad you're not finding your 50's as wearisome as me.

I can't imagine how my dad raised me at this age.. no wonder he drank

Well I'm sorry if that's something you really wanted I can see it'd be depressing I guess.

I can't count the hos, from strippers to shool teachers.
When I said I was run over, there's more to it.
I was a complete lunatic on a motorcycle. I've been run over 3x, the last one was bad, as well as more whipouts and crashes than I can count.
I'm 8 broken bones behind Evel Knievel at this point.
I'm a gimp now, missing several muscles in one leg, and rods and pins holding together my lower body which keeps refracturing bones.
I broke my spine and have back trouble.
I'm certainly not the hottie or badass I once was in other peoples eyes.

Good days

If I hadn't known ecstasy I couldn't know agony.

I was just answering Vikingbro honestly.

I don't go around moaning to everyone but that's probably becaseu apart from work I pretty much keep to myself..

specific personal problems compound my multiplying physical defects

I want to relocate becasue of noise making this condo toxic and unlivable.. its taken all summer to even get a small kitchen and bathroom floor redone.. I still need carpet done but NH winter is just weeks away and I hoped I;d have my condo on the market and sold by now

my 20 year old BMW probably needs a steering box and as much as I love the thing its one problem after another ..

rely on it for work and the prospect of the expense of having this job done is a major bummer.

I'll get all this stuff done and then hunt for a new situation but its really getting hard dragging myself around lately.

Like I said I'm still kind of at the stage where I have much more recollection of being strong and healthy so the impact of ageing is hard and more obvious...

I haven't gotten used to feeling and thinking of myself as old at all

We should hang out sometime.

>I haven't gotten used to feeling and thinking of myself as old at all
Yeah, that part is hard.

Though all of life's transformations have the same problem: when we enter a new stage of life, all of our previous experience is now no longer a benefit but a hindrance - because it's irrelevant and inappropriate for our new situation.

Well yes a few weeks in and out of a coma not sure if you're alive or dead will change your view of life.
But i really think what keeps me happy now is not worrying about myselfand being concerned with little shit.
Know that whatever happens you'll survive, until you don't, but you won't care at that point.
Another thing that makes me feel good is having a job that I get to help people out.
You feel better at the end of the day when you know you accomplished something besides make some rich douche even richer.
I also got turned on to eastern philosophy which helps have a better understanding of life.
I hope you can pull yourself out of your rut and enjoy what life us old bastards got left.

>I was on permanent Grateful Dead tour
If you haven't already grab a torrent of the 3 "Fare Thee Well" shows from Chicago. Great audio and video quality but most of all so much feeling. I never was a Dead fan (even living in SF!) but even I can appreciate those shows.

Thanks for the pep talk.. If I can make it to some sunny place to live out my days I;ll consider myself fortunate.. been looking around Albuquerque for a while.. but this relates to my concern about starting a new job at 53.. been a self employed couir for the past 20 years and while I may have excellent credit I have nothing saved ..

I'll be lucky to walk away from selling this condo with $50k

and luckier still to get a mortgage having owned my own place the past 15 years I can't wrap my head around renting... just need a n acre of so where its quiet and sunny. so wish me luck

I never liked that fucking teddy bear icon.

Every time I mention I'm 46 some 50 year old shows up. How do I feel special here?

I saw the Cali shows online and caught the first and third Chicago's at a local Theater the middle one online.. it was actually musically pretty decent I thought and watching it all come to an end was pretty emotional I was overcome desu

pic is from the end of the final show

Trivia: The actual Grateful Dead w/ Jerry played their last show on my birthday..

I was 13...god damn I'm old.

Hey, we're the same age! I was born in June, 1970, was I here first?

Googled couir, you mean courier?
Well lands cheap down south and fla. is full of widowers so there's that I guess.
I hope a change of scenery will straighten out you mood. It should give a different perspective but it you don't fix the demons you've got they have a way of finding you where ever you go.
Seriously try checking out some philosophy books and try thinking about things.
It really helped me out of a pretty dark period.

Old fag here...this is true. When the Day After aired on ABC, the next day at school people were in shock... ABC had an hour long discussion about the possibility after the movie too.

You were, I arrived in Nov.
Dr that delivered me had been Army Dr, just got back from Vietnam, I was the first baby he delivered since being back. My parents said he cried.

Cool. My parents were married at 18, had me at 20, and got divorced at 22, so I didn't hear much about my early years. I didn't have kids until 30. Still married.

You know being on here talking about this shit has made me realize why being old isn't bothering me.
Because I was such a fuckin failure at being middle aged.
I was great at being an adolescent, I was one into my 30s.
My talent at talling bosses and women to fuck off, killed my chances of living the white house picket fence life.
I was never good at being a real grown up.
Now I'm old and don't have to give a shit anymore. In the end it doesn't really matter.
Thanks guys.

that feel. heh, *i* know that feel, too!

_In Pa., boomers see the American Dream slipping away_

For the class of 1976, the future was as bright as their golden gowns.

“The world was ours for the taking,” said Rick Barnett, who was on a track team that won all but one meet. “We just had to go work for it. Most of us had the feeling we could go do anything we wanted if we tried and wanted it bad enough.”

Now many in that class are turning 58 years old

People here are approaching their golden years with a sense of bitterness about the new, unforgiving economy and foreboding about what they will have to show for this life. Something their parents could count on — a comfortable retirement, debt-free and maybe in a warmer place — seems out of the question to many who say they see themselves scratching out a living until they are buried in the cemetery on the hillside near Connoquenessing Creek.

Hey this thread was cool.
Why don't we piss off the kiddies next Saturday and reminis again?
We could do it once a week and talk about movies, or happenings from back in the day.

You might want to put a light veneer of politics on top. Just put up a pic or Reagan or some such.

Anybody remember watching these when they debuted? Theme music was decades ahead of it's time.

I like it and the derivative works.

People who like Stevie Ray Vaughan must have never heard any of the delta blues guys.

The early 70s were better. Especially on the coast. That's the only time in my life I'd actually want to go back to.

Old and in the way.

G'night fellow oldfags.

I Was 7 in 1983, can I still post?

No, you really don't want that, it's always embarrassing when guys in their forties try to act like they're in their twenties

Since you will be one of us someday I hope you figure that out

i remember an interview about the 99 balloons video, some of the band members were scared and crying, much like the reporter that fired a rifle and got ptsd

I think I do remember reading something about them

i remember the first time i heard that song, knew it would be a hit right away.

too bad our current leadership is trying to put the iron curtain back up

I had the Pleasure of getting to work with Garcia in a few different capacities. I lit a stage for the first incarnation of NRPS with Garcia on Pedal Steel and Lesh on Bass. I helped cater a few Dead Shows Back East (Dressing Room "Trays n' Beer" Stocker). I also got to see him with Merle Saunders, Tom Fogarty, John Kahn, Ron Tutt and Maria Muladar @ Keystone Central. Shook The Hand and said: "Thanks, Man." We chatted at the bar for a bit and one of my Buddies asked: "Hey, why don't the Dead come to San Diego anymore?" Jerry chuckled and said: "Aw, Fuck, Man. You got the Navy and Marine Corps. What do you need the Grateful Dead for?" Classic Jerry.
