Free trade agreements don't necessitate free markets, trade, or even agreements.

A good portion of FTAs may have various protectionist sections,investor protection clauses, and some may only be enforcable through threat of military intervention.

Another dimension is this: even if perfectly free markets were at play, and the US was following a rulebook for transactions written by Rothbard and Hoppe, it doesn't change the fact that other actors will not play by those free market rules. They may try to coercively stamp out voluntary collective bargaining movements, product quality whistleblowers, and (via state sanctioned cartelization ) industry competition.

Yup. Free trade among nations with similar human rights standards, and workplace and environmental regulations is good. When you open up trade with a nation that can undercut those standards and regulations it causes a race to the bottom and punishes the nation with higher standards.

We should have free trade with nations similar to ours, and use tariffs on countries that don't meet those standards and regulations. This gives those backwards countries a reason to reform so they can have free access to our markets.

The current model of "free trade"(shit isn't even a close to a coherent version of free trade) isn't viable because our leaders are selling our jobs and workforce down the river and disguise these tactics as "free trade" when really it's just taking advantage of a lack of regulations in foreign countries that violate human rights. The reason why our leaders don't solve international human crises and seemingly other countries like India, China, Vietnam and such are kept in a sort of 3rd world limbo is because we take advantage of their lack of proper workforce laws to subvert the taxes and expenses most businesses here in America would have to pay.
