If you are talking about the recent cases of political corruption in Chile, he also was very corrupt making himself and his family rich at the expense of the government. ANd most of t he current corruption cases have to do with followers of him, like SQM (a company he literally gave away to a guy he knew)
Plus, maybe you are not aware, but CIA recently released documents making him directly responsible of the murder of a USA citizen in Washington. (Ronni Moffitt)

It has the same effect on USA. We have more money, but the cost of living keeps rising as the governmente expense. And the rich got MUCH MUCH richer.
In this graph, i am part of the 1%, but i am still far from being rich. I bought a house in a nice part of the city, and even with my good salary is a bit complicated. Things are looking better though, since i work for international companies so i have work all over the world and do not really depend on the chilean market.

See the graph. Not like rats, but a great percentage of Chileans (50%+) lives with the minimum salary. Others can keep up with a debt level of 40%, highest on the OCDE.
In short, i am ok, but i know that in general the population is not well. Right now, there is social unease because of that, even with plans to change the constitution. Sadly, this is handled by communists that only thinks like niggers: give me that and that.
There is no future for Chile in any politicians plan. Only to depend on copper (which has its days counted to nano-carbon). It is a sad state of affairs, desu.
