Yes, but tell that to a socialist fellow traveller. They will claim to be offended, and to abhor the Soviet Union. And most of them will believe it. But at the same time they will behave EXACTLY as communists did, because they have been primed with the same insane, cult-like ideology.
This actually reminds me of a bunch of nominally left wing squatters in Amsterdam. They basically started living on an unused corporate lot, and have been left alone since the 70's. I say nominally left wing, because they're basically a gated community that wants to have as little to do with the rest of the world as possible. I actually kind of admire them, because they have built their own, self-sufficient village, and they're pretty much upper middle class. Essentially hippies who grew up.
Outside of the gates is a collection of tumble-down caravans. These house mostly foreigners, who heard about the community, and wanted to be let in. The community refused, for a very simple reason: The community exists by virtue of its members, and the effort they put in. They can tow those caravans through the gates, but the owner will never contribute to the whole. Just as he does not contribute to his own community outside the gates. They point the cameraman to a dirty public toilet, and say "look at the filth we have to live in" but never considered setting up a cleaning roster THEMSELVES. They don't realize they have everything outside the gates that they would have inside, and continue to wallow in self-pity and accusations of racism.
It's the most apt metaphor for immigration I've ever seen, and double so because the hippies have turned into the fascists.
