I think he was pretty fair, actually. He asked a few targeted questions, but they were in relation to things Trump said or did in the past that have raised legitimate questions with voters. He asked Hillary about the email server, too. I do, however, think he was being careful not to come off like a wet noodle the way Matt Lauer did.

He was clearly trying to skate by the way he always has: By bragging about how great he is without much substance behind it, and muckraking the records of his opponents. At some point, he needed to back that up with more clear policy outlines, but it's probably too late for that.

Clinton's a real pro at this stuff, and the difference in experience in this arena really showed tonight.

No matter how passionate he is, no matter how confident he is, no matter how honest he is, Trump is not as smart as Hillary Clinton is. He also lacks the resources and advisers to prepare as well.
