BMI is total shit though. It doesn't differentiate between muscle and fat and it's easy to end up with a high BMI if you're tall. I'm "overweight" according to it (with a BMI of 27), but I'm 95kg, 6'2" and in the gym three times a week.
People being healthier = people living longer and buying more shit = people not clogging up the health service and costing the government billions. Less fat messes waddling about the place = a more competitive economy.
Forgot to say: I agree with the principle of incrementally higher taxes and reduced services for fat people though, just need some better yardstick than BMI.
