If you get a good, moderately expensive set of clippers, setting them to the lowest setting with no guard is easily a close enough shave while still leaving a tiny layer of stubble. The ideal is to have a layer of stubble on your head that's the same length as your beard stubble when you have a five o'clock shadow so you can just trim the whole head in the one go.
