(this is what my mother did with her German degree). You don't need to be perfect because you're not actually conversing with someone, just reading documents, and old-timey handwriting is such that you're unlikely to be replaced by a computer
alternatively, learn another language like Chinese of Japanese. Good English skills aren't very common in these countries, and German is almost non-existent, but there's plenty of businesses there who do business with German companies.
