same here. i believe in a higher power but just feel that organized religion just does not represent it. organized religion always seemed to me as a way to govern/control or gain power in a time were the only real way to do so, or the best way at least, was thru organized religion.

that said, i still feel it can play a great role in the modern world and can affect your life in a very positive way if you are willing to give it a try. I have been really thinking about joining a church and seeing what comes of it. it really seems a lot of these churches and the people that attend them are like a family in some ways, going out of there way to support each other. I think I would enjoy taking part in something like that. Also, I think life would be much better for many if they felt like they had a purpose or a higher calling. I know some will mock me for needing religion to find purpose, but everyone is different and has different needs. I feel like so many of the problems/anxieties/issues that modern man stumbles on come directly from the fact that they feel their life has no purpose. I think many could greatly benefit from this but will never get a chance due to the anti-religious upbringing/programming they have been exposed to, making it almost impossible for them to willingly accept and embrace religion into their lives. It is sad to see. it is sad to hear people shit on religions. mankind has been religious from its very beginning, how fucking arrogant do you have to be to sit and say "i know better then the vast majority of human beings to have ever lived on this planet"

I really think you need faith or it doesn't work, you can't actually be accepted in the community unless you honest, and if you don't believe, being honest with them will separate you from them. Some othere good books is a case for Christ if you are struggling with the resurrection and case for faith by Lee strobel if you are struggling with religion in general. As an atheist, I agree with you. Any atheist who claims to have morality and live with moral imperatives in mind is a brainwashed fool.

The actions I take are all about self-interest. I do not, however, live in a vacuum so decisions are made with consequences in mind. An atheist can justify razing a city if there is nothing stopping him from doing it if it's in his interest with no consequence. I'd personally recommended reading the Old Testament first (Not necessarily all books from start to finish in order, but Genesis through to 2 Chronicles and then the Major prophets.) This will give you an idea on how God works to an extent, our history as a people, why God gave us his Laws, what happened to people who didn't follow the laws and what happened to those who did.

It's really interesting and actually answers a lot of questions reading the Bible. I've yet to read the Acts of the Apostles and spreading the message of Jesus Christ, but thats what I'm on now!
