Cops walking in and chatting with the front desk overnight on their breaks and loading up on coffee), and I've heard of some hotels allowing the local PD to set up a substation in one of the rooms so there is an almost 24 hour presence of cops there (we didn't do this). Besides the extra police presence, we gained a reputation as being pro-cop, and the beat cops that hung around were usually happy to help us in an eviction or whatever when the knee-grows would get shitty. Having hotel security is great and all, but all the authority they really have is to call the cops.
