I hate to admit it, but the French and Germans generally have fancier castles than us. Ours are more functional.

Still, lots of history in ours. This one has a Roman outer wall dating back about 1800 years, while the keep and the church are medieval. And although you can't see it very well in this pic there are 18th century forts on the cliffs in the distance, along with a modern Royal Navy base.
