- Someone who used to work for Trump and copied the page as a piece of insurance in case they wanted to get even or blackmail Trump.

- Someone in a tax office who decided to break the law and make the document public in the greater interest of society.
- Someone more involved in espionage who perhaps broke in to Trump's own office or into the tax office and made a copy. This would mean either an FBI agent, or a PI hired by the Democrats, or a foreign spy whose nation doesn't want Trump elected, or maybe a rogue agent running a solo campaign

The NY Times justification was that there's a legal defense for publishing material that is overwhelmingly in the public interest, even if it does break another law concerning privacy. Their lawyers seem to think they're safe on this. Hillary is going to win (let's be realistic) and will appoint someone progressive to replace Scalia, and then maybe another one or two progressive appointments in the next few years. There's no way Trump will win against a newly stacked SCOTUS. Just realistically how the situation looks.
