A Greek-Russian businessman with roots in Turkey’s Black Sea region has offered to cover all the costs of the construction of a mosque in Trabzon in exchange for the Fener OrthodoxGreek Patriarchate regaining control of the province’s Hagia Sophia, a church-turned-mosque.

The Hagia Sophia Mosque in Trabzon was originally built as a church in the 13th century but was converted into a mosque after the conquest of the city by the Ottoman Empire in 1461. It was retransferred to the Trabzon Regional Directorate of Foundations through a court decision and reopened for Muslim worship in July 2013

Istanbul is based on some greek word meaning "in the city". It was commonly called that by the locals in the city. The Ottomans loaned the word into their own language. Constantionople was mostly only used in latin. At some point the ottomans basically just sperged out that the name is istanbul because the name is totally arabic and not a greek loanword. It also stopped being called constantionople because latin wasnt used much anymore as time went by.

Castellorizans were some of our earliest migrants and our earliest from Greece. They have had more time to acculturate. That being said, my grandfather and his family were still pretty exclusively Greek in their language, customs and dress, to the point that even their headstones are only in Greek. I guess it depends on the family.
