I don't know of anyone who wears shoes inside their own house. When you invite someone else to your home though they'll usually keep theirs on. I guess because its considered impolite to demand someone take their shoes off and the person entering feels uncomfortable either being in their stinky socks or barefoot.

We are always working outside, in the basement or in the kitchen, places wear you need to wear shoes. It's easier to just clean the floors than to be constantly swapping shoes all the time if you go inside to grab a water, check e-mail etc.
