Although, at the time, I wanted to do good shit there, so I did the "voluntary one year" service rather than 9 months conscription and actually opted for the Special Forces preparatory training, and took part in the Jagdkommando (Special Forces) entrance weeks, ... actually survived the entrance test and the 48 hour endurance drill, but then hurt my knee a week later and said "fuck it", I am not going to do this professionally anyway.

Well most of our military is composed of career soldiers whose job is running courses in all areas of combat and learning throughout their lives so even outside of the Special Forces sections a great deal of soldiers are 'Special Forces' on top of being a mountaineer or a parachuter or a cavalaryman or an engineer.

It isnt rare to see a sargent who is an Infantryman, Anti-Tank, Mountaineer who happens to be a General Explosives expert as well as a Mechanic specialized in a certain terrain.
