Someone might come up with a great new theory or idea and then be censored because those in authority don't understand the art behind their posting, the vision that they have. That's the thing about all forms of censorship honestly, they tend to result in the destruction of the basic kind of creativity needed to develop new ideas. Any time you give authority to a small number of people, the risk of those people being too stupid to really understand the nuances of the speech or ideas being forward for discussion is just too high.

Perhaps a new system for moderation could be good, where you can "pick" a mod that you like the most and then his actions only effect your browsing. Everyone can potentially mod the forum and the best mods are just organically chosen. If you use the "B" mod you only see his actions, and naturally people generally would cluster together with the best mods so that the user potential is unified. That way the risk of a mod that has too much power or is interpreting things wrong or in a way that users dislike cannot simply overthrow the entire forum or imageboard, and that way there is never any serious risk to the freedom of the userbase.
