You couldn't not focus, because if you missed a beat you'd fuck up the run - you couldn't listen to a radio or audibooks or anything because of the machines. It was constantly dirty and oily.

That was 4 days of the week. The other two were running the shredders out the back. 40 degree outdoor heat (100 plus for burgers). You stood in a pile of stick, shredded, blowing fucking paper that stuck to every part of of your body and got everywhere and you fixed hesian bags onto a chute and desperately tried to seal them up as they filled and then run and stack them up and run back to continue. Shorter shifts (like 8 hours).
