Coco

So I just got home from watching this movie at my local discount theatre and what was wrong with this movie?

It had a nice story and had some very nice moments.

I'm sure everyone here hated this movie for some damn reason. I honestly think this movie might have been better than Up.

It was racist

And how, praytell, was it racist?

That feel when you realize that a large amount of souls in the land of the dead will merely fade out of existence and that you would most likely be one of them. ;_;

They used dia the los muertos aesthetic, which was originally a sacred tradition but americans use it for dumb cultural points.
Everyone is a stereotypical choco colored chicano, and that is not an accurate representation of mexicans except on America.
It is so americ-centric on its view of mexicans it hurts, just a souless cash grab on a superficial movie about a racist idea and misconceptions.

What is odd is that this person writing this article seems to say the film did a good job capturing traditional Mexican culture and I get the impression that they are Mexican themselves.

massappeal.com/coco-disney-pixar-movie-review/

>Everyone is a stereotypical choco colored chicano
Isn't it only Spain that has white people?

I wonder if Bill Finger watched this film and felt like it spoke to him.

>uses latinx
nice try, at best case scenario he is a fucking na chicano. if he thinks tackling mexican culture trough bad repeated memes he needs to die.
no, but that is what these stupid racist propaganda will make you think

I know plenty of Mexicans who liked the film and thought it was portrayed their culture accurately for a Disney made film. You just sound like one of those white retarded SJWs from Tumblr so please kill yourself.

What crawled up your ass and died?

>no porn
Fucking end me, I want to rape miguel

Chicanos are traitors to their culture, if they liked being mexican they would not be in another country. They are like the rest of american, they have no respect of their culture or catholic values.
Nothing, just saying it how it is. Disney has no right to use dia de los muertos aesthetic for their cashgrab.

>not gently making love to him

For the last time user, mexicans are not a damn race.

Any group with shared ancestry and culture is a race, defining races by american view of black, yellow, white and latin is racial erasure.
Chinese are not the same as Japanese and they are a lot different culturally and at a genetical level.

>and that is not an accurate representation of mexicans
Yes, it is.

All it missed was drug dealers chopping people's heads.

I wouldn't mind that, then we could have a good movie about a real issue instead of badly stolen culture.

Is an ethnic group you dingus

having a prejudice against an ethnic group is racist

You need to like seriously contemplate suicide, mang.

How come Mexico hasn't worked to make their country better so that your people don't want to escape northward?

This definition doesn't seem to be limited to only brown skinned Mexicans. It seems to imply that you're a Chicano too. You are clearly autistic. Please take your Domestos.

I know plenty of Mexican-Americans who love their culture enough to take it with them.

Poor people usually are of a more brown complexion, poor people are also the most likely to immigrate. It is how it is, most of the people leaving mexico would be brown skinned because of their poor social conditions.

And who's fault is it for those poor social conditions? The fact that they are leaving the country for more brighter pastures should say something about your country, you fucking spic.

I just watched this movie yesterday.

I thought it was fine.

It kind of hits the same beats as the last few Pixar films so it felt very safe and competent without anything new, but honestly sometimes it's fine to just make a safe, competent movie.

People are what make a country, moving to another place won't change anything.

Now you're just making excuses for why your politicians haven't done shit to improve living conditions for the lower classes. Keep trying, spic.

Mexican here

Sudacas love it

Well that is simply not true, tho at this rate it would be your problem in a few years.

More excuses, I see, you're not doing a good job at repelling stereotypes, spic.

Don't really feel like defending chicanos, but you sure seem to care a lot about them.
Then again, not the reality i live in, but it will be yours.

>mestizos without identity enjoy movie of people celebrating their ancient traditions
This is not surprising. What would be surprising if Chileans didn't say tomorrow that they invented Dia de Muertos.

Yes it is so racist that it became the highest grossing film in Mexican history.

Go back to Tumblr snowflake.

>This nigga is angry that all the cast on Coco is dark skinned.
The movie is set in Oaxaca, which has a higher population of darker skinned Mexicans than most states you dense pendejo.

How wrong can a man be, especially one who doesn't even live in Mexico, so let me educate you a little bit, you inbred retard.

One, it is a sacred tradition which is mostly celebrated in southern mexican states or more traditional towns. More developed cities still celebrate it but not in the level it was shown in the movie, which is still highly accurate considering the year the movie is set on. Two, of course most characters in the movie were from brown to tan-skinned, that is the most common skin color you'll see when visiting Mexico and again, the most common skin color you could find in the year the movie happens.

Finally, you surely have no idea how hard the movie was shilled by absolutely ever possible media outlet in Mexico months before its release, mexicans adored the idea of Pixar actually making a movie based on Día de Muertos and it delivered, it was such a hit that it was released in mexican theaters weeks before than in US. So oh surprise, you're wrong, mexicans loved the movie even if it was a bit too safe because it captured how culture used to be during the second half of the XX century in Mexico, from the plaza gatherings, the family gatherings, even the music through the whole movie was 100% traditional without a single hint of modernism.

So fuck you, you tumblr abortion, the movie was great capturing mexican culture and you're a complete idiot.

>Oaxaca

How'd you know this?

As far as I know they never revealed the location but yeah looks like Oaxaca or Guerrero

because it earns money doesn't make it any less racist, earning money from that racist soulless movie is a greater offense
apparently im already tin tumblr seeing how much you all get so triggered
Keep eating your propaganda, mexican values don't matter anymore since you let outsiders explote sacred festivities for money.
Time and time again usa delivers racist shit and everyone embraces it.
No surprise the movie sold, it was designed to appeal to you idiots who will eat any kind of crap american animation throws at you.
I am sure they deliberately made everyone chocoshits to appeal the american view of the average mexican.

...

Bitch trying to call racism in a board with a thread devoted to the sexiest beaner waifus. Keep trying flower girl.

>No! You are using your culture wrong! Here, I'll teach you how to be you!"

>I'm sure everyone here hated this movie for some damn reason
haven't seen it yet, but the immediate discussion threads for the month after the movie aired were pretty positive. Don't know about now, but maybe it's just people getting illogically salty about the oscars

thanks i will make sure to keep that in mind when replying to (You).
Marco is fine, he is not a bastardization like cocoshit.
Sorry but I'm not an amerishit, but believe that if it makes you feel better. Disney has run out of ideas to steal, so now they steal culture. It is so easy, an instant cash grabs as long as idiots like you exist to defend them because they have been programmed to be loyal to american companies.

How rich, you telling me you know my culture better than I do. Cry more about the evil american propaganda somewhere else unless you enjoy being called a retard by everyone here.

Disney buys the oscars and the annieawards, it is a joke. You would think annieawards woud do better but no they let this racist piece of shit walk unpunished because it looks pretty and they are corrupt, just a nice logo they now can put on disc releases.
As long as Disney is top dog they can buy all their winnings.
Programming is too strong, learn to be critical you fucking sheep.

There is no such thing as "Stealing Culture", using a story or traditions from other country for a movie can be done good or bad, but still is something that doesn't fall into cultural appropriation. Hell, Disney's first movie was a folk tale from Germany and I don't see Germans whining about it.

I defend nothing. I point out you are acting like the Disney you hate in taking things that don't belong to you and then telling the owners they were using it wrong along. And in that regard, you sound like the rhetoric spouted by militant communists in my country back in the 80s, the same kind of jackboot dolts that would shift between blowing up transmission towers and forbidding college students to wear jeans.

Are you one of those idiots who complained about Mexican Mario as well?

but it exists, it cheapens all traditions until we are left with cityfags that only care about consuming the last movie and don't value their own culture. germans best example, they let outsiders fuck their lives and don't have backbones anymore.
didn't realize my culture is not mine, woops better let anyone do whatever they want with it since im not allowed to care about it.
don't really care, a slight like that is meaningless and completely unoffensive.

*Cityfags* Ok, move along son.

>hey im gonna quote something so your opinion is invalid
sure got me good

>what was wrong with this movie?

It's a shittier rip-off of PIC MOTHERFUCKING RELATED made by a bunch of slack-jawed gueros, that's why.

it made me cry like a little girl

Keep making those excuses. You're really fitting the Chicano stereotype, spic.

Kill yourself.

Kill yourself.

Kill yourself.

How similar are the two movies or are they only connected because of day of the dead?

Is the kids voice acting actually good in the movie?

I avoided seeing it in theaters and decided to wait for home release to watch it in Spanish, cause EVERY time a tv spot came on his voice lines just made me wanna throw my shoe through the screen.

You're a fucking faggot dude.

objectively, theres nothing too wrong with it.

the only people I ever see who take issue with it are tumblrities who think it's racist and Cred Forumstards who don't like looking at brown people

The term is homosexual, and yes I do find black men attractive.

It wasn't terrible, but it did have a mediocre storyline and images. Actually, if anything the vistas in this one were quite disappointing. There was a short blurb just before the movie started saying how proud the animators were with one scene in particular (the afterlife) and when it finally appeared all I thought it looked like was a bunch of cardboard boxes with cheap xmas lights.

Only thing I really disliked was how painfully obvious the 'twist' was that the buff guy wasn't actually the great great grandpa, like, so obvious that even kids get it as soon as they see Hector for the first time.

i think this is the best pixar movie of the decade, however that's not much of an achievement.

disney is making much better movies now.

Okay, so now we can at least completely disregard this dude's opinions.

Book of Life sucked.

People, the guy is OBVIOUSLY baiting with fake SJW bullshit.

The afterlife looked like a place I wouldn't mind staying in. It was suppose to obviously resemble the architecture and lifestyles of the people in the living world in which case Mexico. The whole movie did feel like a very attractive amusement park attraction.

>I'm sure everyone here hated this movie for some damn reason.
From what aprallel reality do you come from?

Fucking EVERYONE loved that movie.

How come the idea of fading out of memory/existence terrifies me and even more so if that occurred after you have already died?

Isn't it interesting how it seems like human minds cannot contemplate eternity? Nobody likes the idea that we just die so we start believing in some form of an eternal afterlife, but when that afterlife starts sounding far-fetched because it's eternal we have to come up with a philosophical concept called a second death that is essentially just what atheists came to accept just without the religious notions of the first death. You really die twice. The first physical death and then when others stop saying your name.

*cough*

I think this movie fucked me up mentally.

Sure but it had a better aesthetic by miles.

Stfu, shill.

nice argument, retard.

people disliked it? didn't visit the threads because I wanted to see it first but I really liked it. gotta say that Hector being you-know-who caught me off guard. the "idol is the baddie" was pretty clear from the beginning but I thought he was actually was family. The artistic choice was spot on, much better than the more recent Disney movies in my eyes. Liked the story as a whole too

> gotta say that Hector being you-know-who caught me off guard.

Are you for real? My 13 year old sister figured it out as soon as hector was shown on screen.

I loved it in terms of the visuals, music and setting but found the plot kinda weak. Did the standard "nice character is actually evil" that Disney have been doing in alot of their animated flicks lately. Also didn't like how the plot hinged on the great great grandma and Coco being massive vindictive cunts who held a stupid grudge for decades.

I'd be lying though if I didn't say that I teared up like a little at the end. The kid is a great singer holy shit.

This, "I'd rather let my great great grandson die rather than have him play music because my musician husband left me" is so petty it's ridiculous.

It's only made worse by the fact that when she talks about how they split up to Miguel through the gate she seemed to have a much less hysterical view of what happened than we are led to believe, she just admitted that she loved Coco more than the music and they both had to give up up on things to achieve their dreams.

There are worse fates than death. youtube.com/watch?v=tqlaPttudUc

So you mean the characters were portrayed realistically? What a crime!

Prove it, faggot, because right now you sound like a liar.

Banning your entire family from playing music because you and your musician husband split up is not realistic, and neither is holding a relatives life in your hands demanding they give up a hobby or die.

Again, especially considering that later on in the very same movie, this character has been shown to convey a pretty understanding view about both of them having to give things up to achieve their dreams, which just makes everything seem a little too contradictory.

This is a good example of how sheltered the average user of this website really is and I will be posting a screen capture of this post for Blackboard so you all can study the wording of this post in greater detail.

We know for a fact that this statement is false since we have class mates with families much like the one depicted in the film Coco which also further goes on to prove why this individual's post is misguided and most likely lacks experience with different family structures.

I know a family that is cookie cutter from this movie, your point is invalid. Kill yourself.

are you autistic?

I saw some other user post similar content on /sci/. I think he's a sociology professor that uses this website as a teaching tool.

You know a family wherein one would force another to either give up a hobby or literally die?

One that would not only ban music for her family and all the descendants of her family, but also ban just LISTENING to ANY kind of music?

And on top of that, would later go on to show they had a reasonably understanding and even a little bit sympathetic view on music and the person who basically caused her to go all hysterical about music in the first place?

Or maybe someone from Cred Forums

youtube.com/watch?v=bUHLU__aFxk
Little Mermaid 3 was almost as good as brother bear.

Great idea.
Execution was just another mismatched pair road trip movie.

Like every recent Pixar film that isn't a sequel

What the fuck is this insanity?

It's a shitty movie with a dumb plot, you weird little retard. You don't know any cartoon mexicans who banned all music and try to murder musicians.

>Like every recent Pixar film that isn't a sequel

those are even worse.

Kill yourself.

Is Imelda really such a bitch that she'd let this little potato become full-skelly and die?

The answer is clearly... yes. Wait, no, she was the one that gave him her blessing to return home. Watch the movie. This whole thing was on Miguel the entire time.

The only good thing about Book of Life were the visuals and some of the character designs. It was embarassing otherwise.
youtube.com/watch?v=7k7xLm4PjKw
Coco was equally good aesthetically and it kicked it's ass in every other area.

BoL is a very flawed movie, but you can't say it didnt try

youtube.com/watch?v=8-fkmRaX0Wk

If we could merge both of these movies it would be a masterpiece.

And why that might be?

An user who was gonna meet the director said he'd try to ask him about that. Chances are Miguel would've caved before she did but I don't think she'd let him die.

I haven’t seen this movie, but apparently I should. Everyone I know from teachers to students of the Spanish department at my university raves about it.

It was cute. I expected a little better from the director of TS3. haven't seen The Book of Life, but it reminded me a lot of Kuba and Corpse Bride. The last song was really nice, that kid had a good voice. I wish they explored the world of death a little more. What was with the whole afterlife NSA gatekeepers and bleak social structure thing, is there a basis for that in Mexican folk culture?

I agree. Chicanos are trash.

>I'm sure everyone here hated this movie for some damn reason
Anything that is popular is hated by an incredibly vocal minority.

I liked it. I may watch it in again but that time in spanish.

I like the american voice acting more desu, mainly miguel, his voice is super cute in the american version while a bit too high in the spainish.

>I'm sure everyone here hated this movie
Most of what I've seen people say is positive.
And not just cause cute Mexican boy or sexy adult skeleton woman to fap to.

It's not a slight you fucking retard, and Coco is not racist, how do I know this? I'm Mexican, born and raised and currently living in Mexico, go be a snowflake somewhere else

This is actually a census of how many mexicans are here, you retard. Your version of the fbi is coming in to raid your house for cartoon porn of potentially underage characters.

She'd only let him go back if he promised to give up music.

And only relented when she'd already found out the truth about why her musician husband never came home + somewhat reconciled with him.

I figure either one of them probably would have relented by the end of the day, but it's still pretty fucking morbid and horrible to basically hold a family members life in your hands and say you'll only let them live if they give up their completely normal hobby.
