In addition, the only info we knew about Reflection was that it was supposed to be an as-yet untold story. Obviously that could all be out the window, but from what I've seen, it seems very unlikely. I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Everyone including herself knows that she's not fit to be a hand-to-hand combat fighter and would do better as a weapon master.

Vivid Strike ignores anything from the manga after Einhart VS. Corona's fight. We don't know if Vivio got or if she's even going to get her Sank Kaiser boost anymore.

Current Manga Vivio is the strongest of the young cast currently. Like Wilfred, Sieglinde is mighty strong but can't compare with the true power of the Sankt Kaiser.

If you cut out all the unnecessary filler which is like half of the manga, you will end up with a pretty decent story about Einhart's growth. Vivio's development didn't actually kick in until recent chapters.

The magic system is one of the few really fleshed out ones. There's a lot of variety and a decent background explanation on how the process works. I can only name TypeMoon to having a better detailed one out of the larger franchises out there.

It's kinda ironic, that TypeMoon right now has a larger presence in the Mahou Shojou scene with Prisma Illya. 4 seasons and now a confirmed movie. This thing keeps going and going.

Illya and Miyu very much act as a psuedo Nanoha and Fate combo in a lot of ways. For a long time, it's very much the standard mahou shojou with heavy yuri overtones. Kuro pretty much made a girl gay after prana transfer make out with her. The whole chasing after Shirou is mostly played out as a joke for the most part anyways.

However, the further you progress, the more heavy the TypeMoon/Fate setting takes part. The later arcs are Fate with magical girls rather than magical girls with Fate.

The competition is still happening. Some of the fights including Miura's were shown in a chapter after the festival -before the spaceChina arc. From the spoiler I read, in chapter 86, we got an update on who advanced to the next round and who dropped out. Miura lost against Sieg and that's why she got the time to fight Vivio now. Seig told Einhart that she will take the championship again. Harry and Els also declared that they are aiming to join the TSAB so I think if Vivid Strike does well, they will eventually make a serious season about slightly older Vivio/Einhart soon.
Vivio looks like she might want to become a pro athlete but I don't see Einhart keeping up with this for long. She will eventually creep for some actual fights with no rule and limit.

So I just read this and what I can't wrap my head around is why (a) Nanoha would side with Hayate over Fate, and (b) Why Fate would go against Nanoha's decision to support the Android plan.

You'd think it would be something the three of them would talk over before Hayate decided to stage a coup. But I do think it would be an interesting idea for a conflict, as implausible as it seems with how well the three of them get along.

So was it just a lack of thought on the part of the author or am I missing something?

The whole conflict, characterization and motivations don't really make sense, those were the only complains about the doujin when it was translated, ironically it was praised a lot while we still had only the raws. Most characters were out of character for the sake of putting them against each other, which would be fine normally in a doujin but it's a glaring issue if you're going for something you want to be taken seriously.

Yeah, all the main girls are too well characterised by this point that any reason for such a large scale conflict would just come off as forced or an asspull. The only logical thing I could come up with is Mind Control, but that always makes for terrible plots.
