Precure needs to bring ryona back. It actually looked like the girls were in pain when beaten up back in Futari wa, Splash Star and Yes 5. But it's been getting lighter and lighter with every season.

In a parallel universe, she and Mirai would've formed the Witch Club, and forced Riko the transfer student to join without knowing she was one. Then they'd spend their days looking for proof of magic while Riko alone tries to hide it while playing along. No fighting necessary.

It's a pretty interesting and different season.

In a lot of ways it calls back to the older style of Precure but has a lot of unique things about it.

It doesn't do anything bad, by that I mean decisions with the story/characters, but what it does do it doesn't really do good enough. Better villains come in but the action is still bad outside one or two episodes. I think it's fun and enjoyable and the characters are alright but unless it has some amazing finale or final arc it will never be one of the better seasons.

But she's only fourteen. This is the perfect age.

I'm not too heated over no subs because Maho has been pretty fucking terrible in general. I think about the only thing it's done that I like was having different cure outfits for each gem. I hope they keep doing that in the future. I like the magic school setting too but they fucked up with the constant back and forth between it and the normie world. It's just so fucking boring when they go back to the non magic world. Especially since they never made an effort to give Mirai's town any personality. Fuck I can't even remember anything about it. Compare this to Yes 5's beautiful architecture their town had that was very memorable or Heartcatch's interaction with minor characters from the neighborhood to give it life. Mirai's town feels so soulless.

The yes 5 school, suite's town and clover town were nice too.

As for bland, yeah Maho is a little bland, the characters are not the best etc. but it doesn't have the same stale feeling to me that HapCha had in its second half. Partially because Maho is doing a lot of different things, like a totally new group of villains and such. I'll admit though that bland could be a pretty reasonable complaint of Maho.

As for Doki, everything about Mana and the show not being about friendship but how everyone just loves her is what makes it an insult to the franchise, and how she's such a mary sue hog. Maho is still very much friendship between Cures. It still carries the Precure spirit, Doki doesn't.

That doesn't make it better or even remotely good. Maho had a couple of new ideas but completely shat on them or didn't doa nything at all with it, Mirai is literally a blank slate just because. Gopri is a super fine polished precure formula just like HC.

Anne of Green Gables. The yuri bait is already there.

HC introduced a new kind of Pink with Tsubomi, a unique (so unique she got half-rehashed in Hime) character with Erika and Precure that experienced failure in Yuri. I like GoPri, but its main cast was just new versions of characters we've already seen before in Precure. A typical Pink magical girl lead with the power of love like Miyuki or Nozomi or Love, a typical brainy Blue, the reformed villain that turns autistic when she goes good.

I'm not saying it does. GoPrincess is a mostly well done show, if it wasn't part of the Precure franchise it would be a pretty good show. Unlike Doki at least.

But I have to look at it as part of a franchise too and for one that's gone on for as long as Precure, GoPrincess is like the epitome of running out of ideas. And even then the villains just aren't good and the characters aren't the best either, it still doesn't have the best fighting, or the best fairies, or the best side characters. Twilight's arc is mediocre compared to the other villains turned Cures ones. The amnesia plot was stupid and Close was just bland the whole season.

Maho has A LOT of issues too, it will never be as good as like Heartcatch or Fresh or something, but as part of a franchise it's so great to see a show like it that can still bring a ton of new things to the table.

Why do people want character archetypes? Why can't each character be somewhat unique rather than following rigid role rules?

GoPri is the epitome of everything great about Precure put together, and that's why it's amazing. It takes lessons from every season and actually learns from them, instead of making the same mistakes.

It's not about wanting or not wanting, Precure almost always follows character archetypes.

The Twilight arc and everything related to Towa's character was a weak, boring, uninteresting rehash of Eas and Siren.

I would like that but that just doesn't really happen much in shows like this.

It reminds me of Kamen Rider, Kuuga, Agito, and Ryuki had similar but still different leads. However because Ryuki was the third season in a row to have a generic good/nice character like that it was really boring. And Godai and Shouichi were way better than what's his name too.

So when Faiz came around and had a loner jerk for an mc it was really great.

You're right, Haruka never built a personal relationship with the girl who was Twilight. That's because she spent her time trying to reach deep inside her for the little girl Towa who was trapped in the forest of thorns. She wanted in the end, once she heard that Towa was Kanata's long lost sister, to save her, even if that meant burning the thorns to the ground. But it's not as if Twilight didn't change and slowly lose herself over time. She went from the proud, haughty, boasting princess of birthright, to a silently raging force who gave up her personal will to win. Every episode she loses she jokes around less with Close and Shut, and focuses only on beating Flora.

Which is why the Towa episodes after that are like building her up from nothing. She has to at once find out who she really is, and make amends with all the evil she did. This happened with Setsuna and the dog too, and Shut's feelings for Towa were just like Westar, but Towa in addition suffers from losing her brother twice, whereas Setsuna gave everything up and didn't look back. Whenever you have a heel face turn like that it's going to follow a pattern, but the way it plays out is unique each time.

After episode 10 or so they just stopped exploring the magic world completely. Aside from the occasional "Cure up rapapa! Do thing!" the magic school students act no different from students in the normal world. Even having the exact same reaction to seeing things like Mofurun talk as if magic is a foreign concept in their world.

Lots of villains and even a whole new set! Yet every villain combined has less personality than any single general from Hacha. They do nothing new or interesting besides doing nothing new or interesting. And on the subject of no personality, Mirai alone is more of a soulless husk than the entirety of Gopri.

This only happens on very rare occasions with very popular series. I only know of SAO and Monogatari where this has happened but it might have happened to other series too. The reason for this is probably beasuse of their popularity the sales are so great that they know that they will earn their money back even if each new season have diminishing returns. It also makes fans support both series more since they know that they won't only get half of the series adapted into the form that they desire. They also basically print money in forms of BDs merchadice, figures and music.

Well there were a few that were just kind of thrown in even though they didn't really need a victim for that episode, like the one when potpourri first appears, and then there was the guy in the christmas episode. And some early victims like the camera girl, who was fun, kind of just disappear so you don't really see what happens with them. Some don't exactly have great resolution.

And then there was that lame biking kid. The kid who wanted to be student council pres in the episode Sasorina was killed.

I don't remember most of them.

The main plot and themes are definitely better.

Pretty much. When I watched it I was even raving about how incredible the mid-season climax was and how perfectly it embodied what makes Precure good. But the ending was just far too disappointing.

Maho has been bad on a lot of levels but what bothers me a lot is how completely terrible some of the monsters have been on more than several occasions. The monsters should be either funny, serious, weird or scary but some of the yokubaru have just been really stupid.

Kowaina from the beginnings of Yes 5 were really creepy but as the show went on they toned them down. That high pitched voice added to the scare factor as well. Never seen anything like it since.

Gaim was an absolute roller coaster ride, just about every episode set the stakes slightly higher than the last. It's not pefect though, the fights get a little boring during the midseason when everyone starts using the same weapon. The show takes a lot of cues from Ryuki and 555, which you are expected to have watched in order to get the most out of the show, which is a shame, as both of those seasons are very hard to watch. The ending is also really fucking weird.
