Ogata forgot last Thursday was a holiday and was shocked to see the gym so crowded during the week.

She’s STILL talking about seeing Hikasa Youko the previous week, which is wonderful.

The guest for the final Zetsubou-hen radio is anime producer, Higa Yuuji.

Ogata introduces Higa as a possible “stepping stone for hope” in Komaeda’s voice.

Apparently Higa was convinced to play the DR games by his coworkers, including Kishi, and when there was talk of making an anime adaptation, he saw a chance.

Higa explains the duties of an anime producer, such as dealing with investors, selecting staff, etc. to make “the dream of the anime a reality”.

Both Ogata and Higa agree that airing an anime twice a week as two separate parts is despairing for the staff, but a good thing for the audience.

Higa is very grateful to the staff for all their hard work.

Apparently the staff sometimes has to draw out scenes so that everyone understands the context of a situation outlined in the scenario, but then those drawings or scenes are never used.

Someone writes in to say that they remembered Yukizome’s line from the start about how it might not be a bad end, and was looking forward to seeing that resolved. They hoped it’d end with a peaceful world. Ogata laughs about this and says that things are already far from peaceful.

Ogata comments that she was in despair at Episode 10 as well.

Another fan sends in mail saying that since they watched Episode 10, they can’t stop thinking about Nanami’s death. Ogata says that she herself every day thinks “Kirigiri isn’t dead, right? Nanami isn’t dead, right?” then asks Higa about that. He responds with “Who knows?”

Halfway point for this episode is Dead or Lie.

Next up is the “My Neighbor Despair-kun” segment about weirdo in people’s lives. Ogata asks Higa who in his life is the most eccentric person, and he answers it’s the entire animation staff. Apparently they’re all weird. Every last one of them.

When asked who the most crazy is of all the Dangan staff, he first says Kishi (the director) but then decides it’s actually Kurosawa Keiko, who was both an animation director and a key animator that worked on the first DR anime. He then changes his answer back to Kishi.

Ogata says that being called “weird” in this context is a compliment.

The first fan mail talks about how every day on their friend’s balcony there’s new wildlife: a pigeon egg, then a beehive, and then a praying mantis. What’s the deal? Are they starting a zoo? Higa comments that the friend seems like they’d be a SHSL Something.

The next mail is about how when they were telling someone about a baseball score being 7 to 5, and he thought it was about a group date. The fact that his mind went immediately to a group date despite having a girlfriend is pretty despairing.

Following that is a girl who writes in about how her brother saves money all the time rather than spending it because he wants to keep things that are rare, like 2000 yen bills and whatnot. She supposes he’s SHSL Zetsubou, but Ogata and Higa disagree—it’d be worse if he were spending the money all the time.

The final mail (from someone called “No Stalking, No Cry” which shocks Ogata) is from a guy whose friend is a connoisseur of porn. He’s always suggesting things to the writer, and the creepy thing is that he always is spot on with his recommendations. Weird, right? Ogata however says that he’s rather convenient for the people around him.

The voting has the porn connoisseur as the most despairing at 38%, but Ogata insists that he’s hopeful instead. She and Higa agree that it’s the connoisseur himself who’s in despair instead of the people around him.

Then the announcements about current/upcoming events and merch.

Ogata also reveals the guest for tonight’s Mirai-hen radio: Hagakure’s voice actor, Matsukaze Masaya!

Ogata and Higa talk about how the latter half of Zetsubou-hen is so full of…despair.

They joke about how Yukizome jumps into Munakata’s arms three separate times in Zetsubou-hen 11 alone.

Apparently the anime staff are as big of fans of Sakakura as Wilder and I are, because apparently when everyone was badmouthing him at the outset of the anime, they were all going “No! That’s not him!”

They’re both happy that the opinion on Sakakura has turned around.

Ogata also notes how the fandom went from going “Kodaka! Kodaka!” to “Kodaka, thank you!”

She likens this to the porn connoisseur from the earlier part of the show.

Ogata notes that the mixture of pink blood and the blue prep school students in the mob created a very striking image. Higa says that it was intended to evoke the style of Zettai Zetsubou Shoujo’s background characters.

The first person to write in is in despair at the ending and thinks that Yukizome threw herself into Munakata’s arms too many times (“I knew it!” says Ogata). They note that the end of the series is certainly much more of a downer than the beginning, and Yukizome’s words for “graduation” left an impression. They were surprised to see Kibou-hen being advertised and though “Kodaka, thank you!”

The next person who writes in wants to know why everyone seems to be having so much fun despite being in despair. They also wanted to yell at the DR1 cast to forget the shelter and run away during their cameo. The anime has made them want to play the games again, and they too were surprised by Kibou-hen’s announcement. (Guys…this isn’t surprising?)

Higa steps in for a moment to chat about how the staff often has to work right up to the deadline; while everyone is watching a given episode, they’re in the middle of working on the next one.

The following fan mail discusses how their heart was twisted over several things during Zetsubou-hen 11, and they cried literal tears at seeing Yukizome leave her notebook and the photo of the class in the fire. They’re going to replay the games as well and are hoping for a happy end in Kibou-hen.

Ogata plugs the blu-ray boxes saying that they’ll provide a lot of background information about the anime and its development.

The final fan mail is shocked by Kibou-hen’s announcement and sums up the feeling as “KODAKA!” They also ask if there will be a Dangan Radio Kibou-hen and if Ogata knew about the ending.

Ogata then chats a bit about how she was asked by to write various lyrics to Zettai Kibou Birthday (which is why she knew in advance what would happen in Zetsubou-hen). In the end, the second version wasn’t used despite being selected initially. Higa apologizes.

Ogata confirms that there WILL be a Dangan Radio Kibou-hen this Thursday!

Both Ogata and Higa talk about fighting til the bitter end to get the anime finished and on air—Higa is grateful to have gotten a chance to work on Dangan Ronpa.

Ogata asks Higa for a message to the fans and he says that we should watch til the end, and then rewatch the entire series. (Which makes sense. Those kinds of twists are the bread and butter of this franchise.)
