Natsume Yuujinchou is about the characters as they interact with the spirits (and each other).

Just stop replying to them. It's not hard.

That makes it even worse since characters stay one-note for seasons. The MC only has one motivation and reasoning for every thing he does and it keeps getting repeated regardless of the situation. It's also thematically worthless.
