Mikazuki Augus is part of Tekkadan, an organization that jumped to fame from the battles involving the escorting of Kudelia Aina Bernstein to Earth and the Arbrau primary elections. The conflict exposed the corruption of Gjallarhorn as well, and the world was changing slowly but surely.

Tekkadan, with the rights to halfmetal as negotiated with Arbrau, became a direct affiliate of Teiwaz. That resulted in abundant funds and more people interested in joining, growing massively to even have a branch on Earth.

Kudelia, learning about the world from her journey to Earth, founded Admoss Company to strive for the financial independence of Mars both in reality and in practice. However, there are many who do not look favorably about the rise of the youngsters who are trying to start something new.

Admoss Company will be inspecting a mining site of halfmetal, and hired Tekkadan to guard them. There, the leader of Tekkadan, Orga Itsuka, senses an attack from a new enemy. Under Orga’s command, Tekkadan, including Mikazuki in the mobile suit Gundam Barbatos Lupus, head out to repel the enemy.

You can watch most of the AU series with no prior experiance, but won't the most out of a couple of them like Build Fighters or Turn A unless you watch some of the others.

For UC stuff start with the original series or its compilation movie trilogy. Don't watch any of the compilations after that as the original series is the only one that got good ones.

0079, the first Gundam, if you can handle ancient animation. Or choose an AU if you prefer modern anime. 00 is a good starting point.

I don't hate IBO, I'm disappointed by it.
It's a show that had and squandered a lot of potential. The plot moves at a snails pace and it really abuses exposition.

There's nothing like the Bright slap. You know, a really memorable scene involving the characters interacting with each other where we can learn something about them through their actions. A lot of the time characters just state their feelings about other characters. This makes for a dull and unengaging cast. Also the animation is really poor at times and there's not a lot of robot fights. I could forgive the lack of fights if the characters had interesting interactions with each other, but they don't.

Which is a shame because there is a lot of potential in IBO. The idea of a tight knit band of orphan mercenaries supporting each other is great. I love the idea of a melee focused gundam. I liked Chocos shenanigans. The first three episodes were fantastic.

Sadly IBO screws up its execution, and I suspect that it's partially because pressure was placed on the writers to change shit around after parents got all iffy about showing prisoners being killed. I have hopes that S2 will be able to make good on the premise.

Oh yeah also /m/ gives the impression of hating it because its the new gundam and every shitposter wants a piece of that pie.

Kudelia was annoying. It would have been okay if we saw her grow from a naive and idealistic girl who wants to change the world into a more realistic and grounded girl who still wants to change the world, but her development seemed like it stopped and started in fits. I actually really like the scene where she tries to shake Mikazukis dirty hand. It showed that she was genuine about wanting to help these people on mars, and that she was willing to get a little dirty.

To be clear, I actually dropped IBO around episode 13 because watching each episode felt like a chore. But I didn't exactly hear good things about the rest of the show.

That was the single most crass attempt at symbolism I've seen in a long while though.

I don't mind obvious symbolism because it's better than no symbolism. It's better than having Kudelia and Mikazuki narrate their thoughts and opinions on their contrasting backgrounds.

Those were not "original plans", those were rough drafts that were scrapped early on, probably by Okada herself.

Most of what we got from that interview were literally few lines out of context with no source other than a single Cred Forums post. I saw a few partially translated actual interviews with Okada on twitter, never did she sound like she wanted to kill many characters off. In fact she was reeling from nightmares after the Biscuit death scene.
I didn't get the impression she was trying to out-egde Tomino either. If anything, she comes off as trying to prove she's not a fujo writer, so most of the fujo elements come from Nagai. Okada claims she's responsible for most of the "macho elements".

It was poorly executed no doubt, but it seems absolutely no one in that colony with the exception of the rebels had any idea of who was Kudelia and they knew thanks to Nobliss, some perhaps hear about her but Gjallarhorn is so paranoid about information control and so divided that it ended up creating this huge mess.

For all we know the only indication those poor guards had was if the opportunity arise capture a rebel leader she is a young woman accompanied by some guys using this weird fish emblem and they were like meh is ok I always wanted to punch a little girl, Atra also played along, so that gave the guards confidence, after all the only photo biscuit brother got was the Tekkadan ship.

In addition to all of this, there's officially no internet in the IBO universe and the information is filtered through the regulatory bureau. People of Earth and colonies have no way of knowing what happens on Mars, much less of some lesser known self proclaimed revolutionary named Kudelia. People from the colonies knew about her because Nobliss wanted to create that kind of figure in order to incite mass revolts after she'd gotten killed.

Also here's a fun fact, Gordon Nobliss is primarily an arms dealer. A freaking arms dealer! Kudelia's Mars' independence movement is sponsored by an arms dealer and is executed by a bunch of child soldiers. You can't get shadier than that. But this also gives you an answer why he came up with the whole idea in the first place. Warmongering is his business and Kudelia was supposed to serve as a patsy in stirring a war between Mars and Earth Sphere.

It's possible they still might go with the "Teiwaz turning in on Tekkadan" theme like they wanted in S1. They're ultimately still just a pawn in both Teiwaz and McGillis' hands. If so then I expect them showcase a lot of Orga's struggles to reverse that situation.

McGillis is terrible in every aspect, are you high? He's a literal plot device: Need a shuttle? Macky has it. Need a ship? Macky has it. Need an escape route? Macky has it! Hurray Macky Ex Machina!
On top of that he's a very underdeveloped character. What even is his motivation? He doesn't even feel like a person, he's just a boring, smug exposition dispenser and a plot device.

I really wonder how the spaghetti leaders will behave now that they are fully developed leaders of big companies, but yeah kind of want to see how they manage this season it could be good, Tekkadan is in the middle of a huge mess they created indirectly

I think Ein surviving is more plausible since I don't think Mikazuki particularly cared whether he lived or died. He wasn't trying to spare him, sure, but I don't think Mikazuki really checked to make sure he was dead if he was disabled.

I can see why Mika would miss the fatal hit on Ein, he was exhausted, bleeding out of his eye and basically on his last legs. Can't see Ein being left alive in the aftermath though. They could technically have him locked up for insubordination. Doesn't he need the graze to sustain his life though? I dunno, it makes better sense from narrative standpoint because it doesn't directly collide with any overarching scheme, less from a techcical standpoint.
Gaelio on the other hand makes zero sense from narrative standpoint. I just couldn't take McGillis seriously should he leave Gaelio alive, even if he kept him in his secret underground rape dungeon.

They better try really hard to make Ein staying alive worth it. If I hear another word from his mouth about much righteousness or muh sinful children I'm gonna fucking lose it. An interrogation of a broken, borderline mind whiped Ein would be good. It'd hint at more malicious aspects of the AV system and foreshadow what's in store for Mika. Then either start a character progression from there or just don't mention him again until the very end where he serves as evidence of McGillis' evildoings.

Let's be honest, if those two somehow survive it would be only for their fujo fan base, it makes no sense, there is no way Chocochar would let them live

IBO had no robots or mecha battles. There were like 3 important battles in the entire season, and they each lasted for a few minutes.

According to first episode description, Tekkadan has grown larger because of their fame and big fat contracts they got from the first season and now even has an earth branch. Kudelia is managing an organization dedicated to making Mars financially successful/independant from Earth. She needs to do an inspection on some mining thing or something that her company oversees so she hires tekkadan as guards while the inspection is happening. During the inspection a new unknown group attacks.

Shino being the only one slutying up is expected yet still feels fresh because I've never actually seen him slut it up on screen. Nice.
