Somebody else would have become Izuru, something else would have gotten her involved in the reserve course riots, and so on. That 'miracle' has taken on the form of various theories, and at this point the only viable one is something along the lines of her surviving but remaining in a coma for years - something that might cause Izuru to assume that she was essentially dead.
