The last minutes of the Nankatsu vs Toho final, and then off to the Paris Tournament which was adapted into the Shin Captain Tsubasa OVA series in 1989.
so except that one pointless group stage match. Did Tsubasa ever lose another match in any series?

I'm not sure, but Japan did lose, but he wasn't in the team then.

Surprised to see this. Captain Tsubasa was HUGE in Italy, Spain and South America but almost unknown in English-speaking countries. I loved the series to bit, which with unending field runs, super powered shoots and tricks and the good ol' "nakama" philosophy was basically the Dragon Ball Z of soccer.

Weird, we've had Shin Tsubasa aired here yet I don't think this OP was ever there.

Dubbing companies and networks won't pay for a Japanese Opening.
