What I don't get is why Finland deliberarely lost the war for Europe in 1941 when they refused to keep Soviet occupied at St. Petersburg. I simply cannot find any reason for it. It was the worst betrayal of the war, and its effects lost the war fully.

If Finland had just done a tiny bit of offensive operations, north Russia would have been taken in 1941, the US supplies to Archangelsk would have dried up 100% and moscow would have fallen within months.

I think your information about the volunteers is completely inaccurate, I haven't heard anything about what you describe. Maybe you could provide us with some sources?

Capturing Leningrad wasn't really up to us, and I don't think it was that strategically important, just a massive concentration of civilians and some factories, but the really important targets for the war effort were somewhere else. Even if Finland would have taken a part in the siege, it wouldn't had been that helpful, since the number of men we could spare would have been so low and we couldn't had been able to keep up a sustained offensive. Germany lost more men in casualties during the siege of Leningrad than all of Finland had available for the war.

I don't think taking northern Russia was possible with the sort of equipment and manpower we had. Even just the attacking phase of Continuation War was bad enough for the casualties, if we had pushed further the loss in manpower would had been even worse, probably too bad to be able to hold the eventual push back.

Taking Archangelsk simply wasn't realistic. Offensive operations in the sort of terrain that Finland and Northern Russia are is really difficult, you have to build a shit ton of roads and bridges just to bring enough supplies. And you have to remember that the enemy is trying to stop you from doing just that.

TL;DR
Finland didn't have enough men to attack too far and chose instead to take up strong defensive positions.
