Yeah, it's fantastic. My only nitpick is that Alphys in canon talks about the abyss for several hours with Undyne supposedly not realizing her suicidal thoughts, but I really like the subtlety used.

And Alphys' voice is perfect. I never really thought about what she would sound like.

Toby already gave a response suggesting they spoke a lot more about it than butterdragon is letting on.

Toby basically said he offered him the chance to change the character, or just to get a full refund, but the guy kept refusing every time, and ultimately they both agreed on what was done in the end. Toby honestly didn't even seem to have any ill will towards him, he seemed more concerned over the fact that he would likely get harassed if the character were some kind of mandatory or important encounter.

The guy just got obsessed over having this specific fetish character in the game and wouldn't take any other option.

After befriending Undyne and gaining access to her phone calls, travel back to the bottom of the garbage dump and she'll tell you her story of meeting Alphys. It's the longest phonecall in the game, having over a dozen textboxes when others have one to three.

That's one of the things I like about Undertale. The game's so light-hearted in presentation and dialogue, but there's some really fucked up shit lying underneath to give it depth. This is especially true with Alphys going full nazi scientist at Asgore's request.

Flowey can absorb Frisk's soul to become Asriel, but only because Chara turned into monster dust and hybridized/amalgamated with Frisk. That's why Chara's name is attached to Frisk throughout the adventure, why Chara is able to take control of their body in genocide, and why Frisk can exit the barrier in all the neutral endings without needing to kill anyone.

Alphys discovered that Determination (DT) is what allowed human souls to persist for long periods of time outside of their body. Most monsters, by comparison, have so little determination that their souls don't last a single second after turning to dust. If DT could allow monster souls to persist after death, then they could begin harvesting SOUL energy from their own kind and break out of the barrier that way. Since monsters fall comatose some time before death, Asgore found families who volunteered their guaranteed dead relatives to be used for living experimentation.

So no, Alphys wasn't trying to bring them back to life. She injected these monsters with DT, hoping that they would DIE, and that the monster souls would be harvestable. Instead, the monsters ended up staying comatose as opposed to dying. The families don't know this and are pressuring her for their dust so they can get on with the memorial services, so Alphys in a fit of panic injects even more DT in them in hopes something, anything happens. Imagine her surprise when the monsters woke up and learned she saved them from their coma (which has a 100% fatality rate). Headcanon wise, the monsters probably saw Alphys as their hero. You know, the ones she wanted DEAD not five minutes ago. So Alphys, I'm guessing, tries to play the role of hero and downplays the fact that they were supposed to die so she could steal their souls. After a couple days, the monsters she "saved" from death as a "hero" then become the freaks of nature that are amalgamates. She betrays their trust twice.

And this is why I like Alphys, character-wise. She was already committing experiments of questionable ethics "for the good of her people". Her experiment backfires and brings back to life the very monsters she wanted to die. Then it backfires again and creates freaks. This is why she's so fucking broken, and I love it.

All we know about that is that Alphys was following the blueprint to create something that could extract Determination. We don't exactly know where it comes from, but considering the final product is similar in shape to Sans' "gaster blasters" (their name in the game's code), the blueprints are probably Gaster's.

Undertale will always have a place in my heart of indie as hell games because it was I who started the Real Knife rumor at Tv Tropes. Of course Toby certainly had it all planned out anyway (or Chara wouldn't be babbling about knives to begin with), but I wonder if he originally was going to call it something else.

Don't remind me. The music was a big part for me and hearing them for the first time at the right areas of the game made them that much more amazing.
