Final Fantasy has had pretty terrible gameplay. It's only covered up by the really pretty graphics, so people are too distracted.

To be fair I've never managed to drag myself far enough along in GS to really call it definitively bad, so the gameplay might not be so completely unbelievably bog-standard all the way through. However from what I've played I'll agree with you just because absolutely nothing in golden sun stood out for me at all.
