fuck this card it's all my friend uses

if it's all he uses then you shouldn't have any problems

i take your card, rip it, and call you a nerd

>3 damage for 1
back in my day, we had shock and we LIKED it.

Fuck your shit I play sinkhole

Magic the Gathering? more like
Magic the fag gathering amirite lmao

That's cool, but the people over at /tg/ might appreciate this a bit more.

how would this help you to stop the bolt?

That's actually not a great play, red normally doesn't need a very large mana pool to burn *heh* through their hand and you're down a card from doing it. Plus, that card is hella expensive.

>Playing LB on your turn

Look at this chump.

I put on my robe and wizard's hat

I play a Blackcleave Cliffs and tap it to cast Inquisition of Kozilek targeting you.

I choose to make you discard Eidolon of the Great Revel.

You take the bolt because you effectively made your opponent pay a mana and discard a card for only 3 life

What the f**k, I told you not to message me again.

it doesn't stop the bolt it stops the source of the bolt you dumb animeposter

oh well worth a try

rdw is for poorfags. it's only good in low skill ceiling brackets like standard and modern

lightning bolt has been around since alpha, user.

>get a load of this faggot
Lightning bolt is so out.

i play another mountain, and cast lightning bolt.

youtube.com/watch?v=Ay_S8NjPEXk&t=77

>casting an instant during your own turn
Is there a better way to spot a casual?

...And?

You think I am really going to sweat three damage over the whole game? Plinking me for 3 is probably the worst thing you could do with the card. I'd be hanging onto it, either to fry a defender you use to block an important creature of mine, zapping a key attacker on your side, or as a "counter" to something like Giant Growth by killing it before the Enhancement can resolve.

Of course, I usually use Lightning Bolt with first strikers, which means I can take out a 5/5 with incredibly low difficulty.

Back when I played magic 20 years ago those were common, not uncommon.

Imagine what they were like then.

> I can't beat Red waah my friend is shit!
Sounds like your friend is better than you user.

>cast lightning bolt
youtube.com/watch?v=j_ekugPKqFw

Fun Fact:
They banned Dingus Egg instead of this.
Because Wizards of the Coast didn't know what the fuck it was doing.

I think your friend might be cheating if he has a deck made up of 45 bolts

I don't know user. It cannot stop my Etched Champions (affinity or tempered steel deck, of course) from raping you. And it's it's not the champions, it will be the 7/7 inkmoths.

>His deck isn't 55 Bolts and 5 mountains

?

Infect is a freakin' awesome mechanic and I'm super glad I came up with it!!!
-- MaRo, Master Game Designer

I tap one blue and play ancestral recall.

This was back when both cards were first released or at least pretty new. Looonggg time ago.

>bolting on turn one
>bolting on your turn
>bolting as a sorcery
>playing basic lands
Literally what the fuck are you doing?

>That one guy who runs two of these in his Myr deck in the off chance he draws one
He doesn't even have a plan for it. He just likes having a card that's hard as fuck to deal with.

>playing nonbasic lands
Ruh roh

>Coming out +2 in advantage in literally any card game
WHO APPROVED THIS
LITERALLY EVERYONE MAKES FUN OF JAR OF GREED BECAUSE OF HOW RIDICULOUS IT IS

And fags say Wizards don't favor Blue.

> Tfw I finally got my friend into MTG.
> He made a burn deck with Bolt, Lava spike, Rift Bolt and Vexing Devil.
> I can't beat him, he's unstoppable in my group. He's been playing for less than a month.

POST YOUR FAVORITE COMBOS/SYNERGY

1. It's banned.
2. Yes, blue gets all the best stuff.
3. All the "Pros" and tryhards love Jace the Iceman Pokermaster as a mascot so WotC will continue to love blue.

...

I only play Commander and Duel Commander now for the 40 life total if nothing else.

20 life just really isn't enough anymore.

They are quite beautiful and work so well with Master of Etherium, Steel Overseer, Signal Pest etc. Also, you can always stick a sword or Cranial Palting on them.

channelfireball.com/articles/woo-brews-modern-negative-life-combo/
Beat him with this shit.

>sorcery speed

no

Name a phrase more assblastingly irritating than
>"Before you play that, I play..."

Just next level them.

I love MTG and I know it has a shitloads of games, but this is /tcg/ tier unless you're talking about the games.

>banned in Legacy
>banned in Modern

somehow this is more broken than thoughtseize or inquisition of kozelik

Not even one of the most broken blue cards. Still, that shit can only be used in vintage

That was excellent. Do you have more like this?

All good until banned Seat of the Synod.

>Turn 3
I tap Urza's mine, tower and power plant to play Karn Liberated
I then use his +4 to make you exile a card from your hand
>*pushes up glasses*
nothing personnel kid

>Opponent has one card in hand
>You cast a spell
>"Wait, I need to think about something before the spell resolves"
>They sit there for five minutes
>"Okay it resolves"
>Card in their hand is a land.

>"Give me a minute to think..."

I should know. I do it all the time.

...

They want you to use their newer cards instead. Banning isn't always about being broken.

You seriously don't see why this card is busted? It lets ANY deck have a free counterspell for 1CMC spells.

>tfw my playgroup has one of those trivia game hourglasses on hand just so this shit doesn't last so fucking long

Because there's a lot of god tier cards with converted mana cost 1 in Legacy and Modern

>At the beginning of your turn-

Well let me just get the fucking lube then

wait what the fuck does jar of greed even do? Could you tell me?

is your whole deck 1 cmc spells or are you just salty about losing that turn 1 play?

i like you. but i love that card.

Yeah obviously. But you know he really doesn't deserve it. He's not a cancerous piece of shit when he wins or anything since he's new so there's that.

Chandra and mom are cute

Besides from breaking the colour pie, in modern, Misstep counters:

>Inquisition of Kozilek
>Lightning Bolt
>Thoughtseize
>Any mana dork (Hierarch, Birds etc.)
>Glistener Elf
>Serum Visions
>Path to Exile
>WIld Nacatl
>Monastery Swiftspear
>Death's Shadow
>Goblin Guide

It warps the format by making aggro decks worse. A healthy format means having a variety of different decks and removing aggro from the equation isn't the sign of a healthy format.

So what her vagina caved in?

The issue with that card is that it gives every single deck easy access to a counter spell, which shouldn't happen. It's not a matter of it being overpowered, but too accessible

>wizards introduces a super cool mechanic, investigate
>LITERALLY drops it mid-block
perhaps the most unforgivable sin ever

Force of will with no downsides

I didn't give you permission to cast anything

i can literally just turn one thoughtseize or kozelik all that shit

>implying that's ok because it's in black

I don't want ANOTHER reboot/revisit so soon, but I would really love to see Kamigawa revisted. Despite all the great art and lore, there was so much trash and filler in that block. It wasn't Homelands bad, but it was pretty close.

Did anyone ever find a use for her?

how are you gonna pay 5 mana on turn 1 senpai

When even goblins is running this spell, it is broken. 2 life is nothing compared to countering 1 cost spells, especially when those formats are decided in the first couple turns.

MERFOLK BROS BEFORE HOES

Yes, in my Rith R/G/W token EDH deck.

Just for you

Why is White the worst color? I haven't seen any good White card in forever.

Reminder that /tg/ science proves that 90% of merfolk players are gay.

you still have to pay actual mana for those, which could end up costing you 5 health if you
>play fetchland (-1)
>crack for an untapped shockland (-2)
>thoughtseize (-2)

Thoughtseize and Inquisition are tempo negative plays though. You're spending 1 mana to take away a card that your opponent has spent zero mana on, effectively putting yourself behind.

Misstep lets you remove early plays that your opponent HAS spent mana on, without you losing a tempo advantage.

I thought it was turn 2 :^)

>Spell-Queller
>Angle of Alpha-strike

Declaration in stone

In standard, white has comfortably been the best colour for quite a while.

In older formats, white has access to the most powerful sideboard cards.

Nah man, play the land, end your turn, then tap on your opponents turn.

>I'm ______ and you know what that means!

Can you explain a little bit further? I've been under the assumption White is fucking garbage the whole time.

He does come up with some very interesting and unique mechanics.
I like this guy.

Also destroying the land doesn't stop the effect. mana sources do not go on the stack you literally can't stop someone from getting mana from a land without a specific effect

>In older formats, white has access to the most powerful sideboard cards.

Path to Exile is played in almost every deck that runs white mainboard and is basically the best removal spell.

Zada + Tokens + Fiery Gambit = lul

Sup guys.

Best block? I prefer Urza Block for lore even though I realize it had mainly shitty cards save for a few OP ones and crappy combos if any existed.

Of new border cards, time spiral.

In standard right now, white has access to cards like Archangel Avacyn, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Declaration in Stone, Always Watching and Thalia's Lieutenant. White also gets access to most of the wrath effects in the format like Tragic Arrogance and Descend Upon the Sinful.

In older formats, white has access to very powerful "silver bullet" sideboard cards like Stony Silence, Rest in Peace and Worship. White also has access to efficient removal like Path to Exile and Swords to Plowshares.

Essentially, white tends to get really efficiently costed spells as well as spells that can completely shit on specific archetypes. Stony Silence is almost a free win against Affinity, Rest in Peace shuts down graveyard decks, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Aethersworn Cannonist shut down Storm decks.

I don't think this works the way you want it to

Oh yeah, and Protection from Red creatures and Ivory Mask shut down Red.

Its only disadvantage is bad draw. So throw in some Blue and you're good my amigo!!!

zada + werewolves+ might of the masses

>build a merfolk deck
>Equilibrium gimmick, cheap bounce/counter
>figure it won't do that well as it's just merfolk
>end up steamrolling most people even before Equilibrium comes out, since Unsummon, Mana Leak, and other cheap spells make my merfolk ridiculously hard to kill
There were a few really good merfolk in there which helped a bunch, but I was quite surprised overall at how well the deck turned out.

What a shitty card

Just have lifegain in any way, duh

>surprised mono blue steamrolls people in eternal formats
Well well well

How do I play commander I don't get it

Indeed the core of merfolk is strong itself and the slots of counterspells/gy hate can be replace by loads of stuff.

Try Wizard tribal and you will be even more surprised!!! :D

I combo off for lethal Storm.
Your move, Cred Forums

It does, though. You have to choose the target for Fiery Gambit (of which there is one) on cast, not after flips. So Zada proliferates it.
