Bethesda doesn't know anything about firearms
we know this
Obsidian did a better job but the engine is shit

Wew, Chain Reaction was one of my favourite nightfire levels.

>"He's in the hole!
>"contact gone, I can't see him"

I liked Double Cross too, because the ninja 1v1 at the end was sweet. Every mission was amazing actually, besides the shitty driving ones. Fuck those ones.

>besides the shitty driving ones. Fuck those ones.
I liked the driving sections, other than the on-rails plane bullshit of Island Infiltration.

>left handed action
REEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I like silly reloads like in Battlefield Hardline. Borderlands has some cool ones, too.

>pause at 3 or 5 seconds
>protagonist inserts an empty casing

I wish I had a webm but the revolver from Metro 2033 was pretty cool

Borderlands 2 deserves some credit for the explosive reloads that one gun brand did.
It was neat.

...

> 12 year old game
> has bullets in full magazines and none in empty ones
12 fucking years ago they had this

>muh trig disc

Motherfucker he's about to shoot people, that's the time when you keep the finger on the trigger.

>> 12 year old game
>> has bullets in full magazines and none in empty ones

wut, just in the first 2 animations that statement is false

You don't keep your finger on the trigger while you reload or know you're going to shoot what you're aiming at. Why the hell would you keep your finger on the trigger otherwise and risk a fucking misfire?

This is why you're not a tier 1 operator operating operationally user.

Dahl was my favorite next to the bandit guns. Throwable, regenerating guns is a good concept.

...

It was tediore with the throwable guns though.
Dahl made burst, military-camo weapons

This is how you do bolt actions.

Why does he load two rounds after full clip and single shot?

Because pulling the bolt back extracts the round in the chamber, leaving room for two rounds.

Because he pulls the bolt, and then reloads. When he pulled the bolt to reload, he ejected another round I don't really know, that's just a guess

Oh. That's nice.

Never played battlefield hardline but the random easter egg reloads are pretty funny

youtube.com/watch?v=oCA6DUJN5qk

RO2 has hands down some of the best attention to detail ever put into an FPS.

Another question: when he checks magazine in the end of the video, he pulls the bolt back. Does it extracts yet another round from the chamber?

He does a partial pull which isn't far enough to let the round extract.

when video games get The ping sound of a m1 garand just right

He doesn't pull it back all the way and does what's called a "brass check" to check the round he has chambered.

It's my fault for rushing the animation, but normally when you hold the reload key your character does a brass check and it'll tell you an approximation for how much ammo you have, like "Full", "Over Half", "Under Half", "Near Empty".

Yeah except for little shit like the MKb.42 not truly being open bolt and the C96 being bugged under level 25.

I miss DoD:S

Eh, people have paid more for things that do less

Considering the kind of porn this thing can do besides

RE4 did the same shit. You could get that drum barreled shotgun and Leon would put 4 shells into the thing and it would have 30+ bullets in the magazine. Shit's not that big of a deal.

This honestly is the only VR game I have seen that seems like it would be a blast. Its just a shame its not worth the money for a single game.

RE4 was also made 10 years before FO4 and was not an FPS.

Sexy reload animations coming through.
youtube.com/watch?v=Or6_6NGN1Co

...

>You don't keep your finger on the trigger while you reload
yes you fucking do. you're supposed to reload while you have one still in the chamber in case you get caught off guard and need to shoot while reloading

Check out Onward as well. It's looks a bit janky but that's because the animations have to follow what the player himself is doing. I haven't bought it myself but probably will once they get some kind of coop and larger scale multiplayer modes going - for now it's just 4v4 in maps slightly too big for that

youtube.com/watch?v=QS3Vi4Cipgk

...

I'm assuming you can modify this weapons ammo capacity? Then it would make sense to actually have a static reload animation instead of him putting the actual number of correct bullets in.

>that slight teleport as the magazine adjust to the bottom of the gun

Still impressive for a mod's effort, but nothing that amazing.

HL2 has some trash animations. I'm pretty sure Gordon also reloads the revolver with an invisible speedloader. The biggest stand out issue would be the fact that the MP7 has an invisible grenade launcher.

This is probably some of the best reloading animations I've ever seen in a shooting game, and it's a TPS.

...

>I'm assuming you can modify this weapons ammo capacity? Then it would make sense to actually have a static reload animation instead of him putting the actual number of correct bullets in.
Yes you can, the Striker shotgun for example could go up to a 100 bullet clip. Obviously having a realistic reload animation for that would be downright stupid.

The MP7 has two barrels in HL2, so it's not an invisible grenade launcher, it just fires 40mm grenades through a 4.6mm hole :^)

MAKE ME

Oh god that brings back some good memories. Loved that level just for sniping mofos all day.

what game???

>That lengthy reload animation
>that actually noticeable recoil

Shit's tasty, I really hate how reloading in CoD is pretty much a non issue.

So Cred Forums is just nit picking an intentional game design. People here really put 0 thought into why some decisions are made with a game.

>the Striker shotgun for example could go up to a 100 bullet clip
>100 bullet clip
>clip

Also those are empty, fired casings he puts back.

The R8 is better, but like usual the animation is unpolished. The ejector's broken and the speedloader is fucked up.

The Deus Ex 1 reloads usually don't make any sense but I love them

everything about that gif, like wtf

I won’t waste my time trying to explain the loading mechanism to you -- your primitive mind could never grasp its complex nature.

They just saw Terminator 2 and decided to copy it.

Anyone got those weird 1 in 10000 battlefield reloads, where a new deagle appears out of nowhere, a mysterious third hand passes a magazine or they just throw the gun and put a new one on the same clip? THROW AWAY THE KEY

Wanted to derail the thread with this but I'm stuck at work and on my phone. The sound effects from the killzone guns are fucking amazing as well. With a good pair of headphones you'll cream yourself from how powerful they sound.

...

You can claim the game has shitty lighting, lods, models. textures and shadows but I refuse to take people seriously when they say shit about animations in U4, this is top notch stuff

Call me when they actually try to improve the gameplay with technology instead of making everything a cinematic setpiece

I never minded the RE4 and 5 reload animations.
Sure it's odd to see Chris load 2 shells, rack the shotgun and the count goes from 0 to 15, or Sheva loading her default 10 round beretta and the count going from 0 to 100.
But that's almost the charm of RE.

Is he pulling that outta his mouth?

Chest rig. I though it was a cool detail at the time.

youtube.com/watch?v=Q7HGmUBQOHM

KF2 has some pretty great reloads

...

Do the developers EVEN TRY to make guns seem powerfull and maybe even slightly realistic? I mean all the gun sounds seem so fucking weak novadays

But those don't look like they have repeater action.

Isn't that supposed to be some sort of reload drill for if you're in combat and you're too jumpy/shaky with adrenaline to manually operate the slide or something.

That's where they put all the effort into.

Interestingly enough they take that into account in battlefield 1 but instead of losing that one round the animation has the character blocking the round with his hand so it doesn't fly away before proceeding to load normally.

It's an over exaggeration as a joke.

youtu.be/K7cyQlsUQ6E

It'll come out early access one day!

Freeaim is the best thing ever. I really wish more games had it. Arma, Insurgency and Red Orchestra, is that it?

that's hardly something to get mad at

>as a joke.

Except it isn't? Travis Haley is a very serious instructor.

The best of the best

*come out of early access, and I meant to post this. Time for bed.

That bullet at the end always gets me.
Does anyone have the one, I think made by the same guy, where he throws up the ammo, picks it up and reloads?

That sounds really dumb.

Is this Hardline?

>Untrained civilian male not doing things up to military standards

WOOOOOW

...

It's not even "military standards", whatever that means.

You have to be a literal retard to do that and a real big one to conciously animate something to that nature. By any chance do you arbitrarily call things used by soldiers as "military grade" as well?

um, what, what game is that... thank you

It's a dude on YouTube who does funny reload animations. It's not from a game.

>um
How much of a fucking faggot are you?

That magazine is empty.

sorry you got triggered at nothing.

What's the name of the game?

nah nah nah
this is how it's done

All I want is a game that makes you lose your ammo when you throw away a half spent mag

It's CoD 4

I miss HL:FA so bad. It hurts user.

BATTLEFIELD FOUR, SOON TO BE PROCEEDED BY BATTLEFIELD ONE

>the way is clear, no burgers on sight

Receiver

I don't see anything wrong with this, do OPERATORS actually use this stuff?

although realistic, there's a reason why devs stopped doing that. It's anti-fun

game?

insurgency does that, you keep the half spent mag instead of throwing it away though

>Jagged Alliance 2 1.13
>Characters intentionally can't always quite remember how many bullets are left in the magazine
>MFW

hnggh

Neotokyo did this. It was sad killing a small enemy with the AA12, reloading, and realizing you just wasted a 5th of your ammo.

I was about to say something about it, but I don't know that part's name in English.

BF2 did that

youtube.com/watch?v=UujtfN7hCdo

youtube.com/watch?v=DNOY2duwaK4

>Meanwhile, in Mod Town...

must be heavy wearing that giant bomb disposal suit underneath his regular gear

most BF games do, i think

Moar Killing Floor webbums plz. Got any from KF1?

There's no way this can be considered a 'great reload'. I mean, I like the IDEA of it a lot but it's absolutely impossible to put in the bullets (in the second gun especially) that quickly and from such a stupid angle. It doesn't look right at all.

Game?

Perfect Dark.

God, I miss it.

Perfect Dark for the N64

The 360 remake was good.

Why do the shittiest arms in fnv always have the best reloading animations.

>mfw GTA IV's AK reload animation

Thanks. Gonna emulate the shit out of it now.

My autism tells me I must correct you.

It is indeed a joke. Pic related.

I cannot even handle this.

actually it was happy because I knew why it happened and it made sense

Murder-suicide yourself

>barrels shaking from force
I am incredibly erect

They stopped with bad company, so like 6 games ago now?

Insurgency has some of the best animations I've seen.

Also, I'd like some feedback about this one.
It's keyframed at 30/s, but I'll eventually have to adapt it to 60/s. Before I do that though, it would be nice to know what can be improved.

Put bullets in the mag during reload
Do not throw mag
It is a little too springy, make it feel heavier and slower.

>manly tears using a hand grenade.webm

...

muh dick

Make him pull the mag down instead of throwing it forward. I also dislike how he barrely poits upwards like that. It should always be facing forward for the chance of enemy popping into your field of view

>stock going over his shoulder
>checking the ceiling
>running headlong into that room

Thanks for the suggestions.
The magazine currently is always empty because the gun's script will dynamically put in either the follower (empty), the follower and a bullet (one left), or two bullets stacked in zigzag.

The springiness and mag throwing are because the reload length is either 2sec (not charging) or 3sec (charging) for bullpup weapons. Throwing away the mag is the fastest way to get rid of it.

Also thanks for the feedback. The barrel pointing upwards is this gun's "signature pose" during reload, every gun in the game will have it's own; it's not really realistic I suppose, but it gives each gun a unique feel.

>checking the ceiling

Yeah, it's called ninjas retard.

it's steven segal, i completely forgot that was going to be a factor

>>checking the ceiling
He's australian, it's an habit

Fucking ceiling spiders. Fuck australia

Can confirm this as a common military procedure. It carried over into modern weapon clearing procedures. I remember being taught, in Army basic training, that if you were leaving the operating area, you would leave some ammo behind for the guys who were staying.

A lot of the re reload animations looked fucking cool though

SO REAL

>HL2 has some trash animations. I'm pretty sure Gordon also reloads the revolver with an invisible speedloader. The biggest stand out issue would be the fact that the MP7 has an invisible grenade launcher.

Valve just don't care and it's fine. They use whatever looks cool with a functionality that is fun and balanced. The RPG is literally backwards in that game.

What handgun should I buy for home defense? Was thinking about getting a Beretta 92fs or just a 1911. No glox pls

Also, I kinda want to say fuck it, save up even more and get something really ridiculous like a smith and wesson 500 or even a desert eagle though I would never use those for self defense. I have a flare for style.

>not checking the ceiling
Do you want to get killed by Sam Fisher?

I always thought the first one was better overall

...

I don't get why it's so hard for each mag to keep it's own counter.

>You spawn with 3 mags holding 30 rounds each.
>Reload halfway
>Gun now has 1 in the pipe 30 in fresh mag
>Previous mag has 15

It doesn't need to go full on receiver in terms of management but why would it be hard?

no fuck off

no, dropbears you idiot

It's not anti-fun. It adds strategy and thought to your reloading. Should I reload now and lose bullets, or risk of not having enough?

Strategy and thought is anti-fun, get with the times grandpa.

but /k/ knows way more bout guns than us
They will answer your question much better

But he needs to show off. Nobody on /k/ would be impressed.

CS:S mod weapons can unironically get this retarded.

>download m4 that looks much better because it's a completely new model with animations and shit
>mid game, decide to remove suppressor
>animation is just straight up tilting the gun downwards and somehow it actually slides off and he just leaves it on the ground

game banana uploaders have become real silly latley.

>L96
>somehow a left handed model despite right handed ones only existing
>using a left handed model while being right handed

for what purpose

>Valve just don't care
>HL2 animation sucks
>tfw you assign the wrong bones to the wrong vertex groups and leave them that way for literal years, making a character flat-chested, 7 feet tall, and giving them back problems

I'll say, it's basically a running gag at this point.

Forgot pic, whoops.

>reloading doesn't drop your mags
>CoD makes reloading increadibly fast
>also makes the pistols really shit, reloading is often superior to switching to your pistol

Reloading in games is really getting dumbed down. Shit's a bummer.

In ACEmod you can also pick up discarded magazines by other players, and transfer bullets between mags (of same caliber) so you get 3 full instead of 8 half full

that's the bolt hold catch
to release bolt you just pull it back more

The game doesn't have wrist bones.

>firing with safety on
>there is no mag release button
Besides that, it's pretty good model and animation.

>It doesn't point to the center of the screen in game, why would I have it point to the center of the screen in the animation

why is the reference there then.

>The game doesn't have wrist bones

how

The in game first person camera is in the eyes and moving the head bone around is reflected in game.

Therefore I need something that lets me know what direction the head is facing in relation to the gun.

yes

you should look into "look at constraints"

>tris: 69664

for what purpose?

You know I just noticed that Arma 3 puts the cam right on the damn front stomach again. Arma 2 had the camera like above the gun so you are actually seeing shit through your eyes. Or am I remembering this wrong?

It wouldn't matter. The player in game can move their head independent of where the gun is, there's also aiming deadzone. And while in the animation I do have the head constrained slightly to the crosshair, it ultimately does show up in game.

The scene is more complex
No its not, Arma 3 has it in the eyes as well

you making an fps game? some nigga said 10k-5k for fps view weapons. most of mine are under 10k

no

Really? I swear sometimes it feels like the gun is right at my face but looks the eyes are in my chest... my mistake.

Why does this Cyclone model look like shit? Is it from a mod or something?

360 version

This looks ridiculously nice.

I'm assuming it's from the N64 game.

we have both broski

God tier: Reload with a half-spent mag, keep it, have a chance to fill it with bullets later

Good tier: Reload with a half-spent mag, keep it

Mediocre tier: Reload with a half-spent mag, lose all the bullets in it

Shit tier: Reload with a half-spent mag, all bullets magically return into your bullet pool

Maybe you are too used to weapons being hold at the hip in FPS games. In such games like CoD even if you hold the weapon on the shoulder in third person, in first person you actually hold it at the hip. Hence the notion of "hip fire" making weapons extremely inaccurate. In Arma weapons are actually held against the shoulder and are also accurate while firing as such. That's why it appears that the weapon model is held a bit too high / your eyes are in the chest.

>semi-auto HK91 without the paddle magazine release

There was a game which cycled mags as you reloaded and remembered ammo you had in each. It allowed you to merge them as well but that took a fair amount of time.
