>slashing the prices already because the game is dead

just wait for them to go F2P like the russian version

No

The game is dead.

Wait for F2P.

Dead game

Are you allowed to trade yet?

>thought it would be just like ArcheAge 2.0
>was right

I wish some upcoming mmo would ACTUALLY be good. Sadly it's not happening.

FFXIV HW is pretty good but if you hate vertical progression MMOs then you may as well quit the genre since sandbox and horizontal progression went extinct more than a decade ago.

OP Here, I´ve been thinking on investing the money on FFXIV ... is it worth the money / time?

Only if you're a waifufag

Then it's a no for me, TY sir.

It's like WoW but with more polish and frequent updates.

If you hate tab target combat, stay away.

The controls aren't good, therefore I stopped playing in the first 20 minutes. If I'm gonna dedicate time to an MMO, it needs to actually feel good

>it will never be F2P!
>totaly not P2W
>this time it will be DIFFERENT!
>this is better than GW2 or WoW the dev is competent!

its really hillarious to see the fanbase slowly phasing from denial stage

the same thing can be said for any MMO today, they are just glorified gear dressup sims.

Dont buy into any of the shit this company promises you, so many horror stories about the game, also dead game.

Not really. The graphics are good but there is no appearance customization in game except for a small number of $30 cash shop costumes.

And no, don't buy the game. It's dead already.

I play the game and this is completely false

Last ditch effort to get some money before going f2p.

I'm so used to tap target combat that actually cant get into "action" ... so that's a plus for it.

it's dead

every mmo is cashgrab these days, ppl saw how much money mmo can make them in WoW. It will be years and years, before we will see actual decent MMO with decent lore and decent content. Before WoW mmos were for the "hardcore" gamers, with much depth, and long development and even longer support (Just look at Lineage 1).

The only good thing this shit had was the character creator.

Sorry I meant BDO not FFXIV

>Before WoW mmos were for the "hardcore" gamers, with much depth

I used to play FFXI and Everquest and those games were just huge time sinks, there wasn't much depth or skill involved. Your progression was based on how much time you were willing to sit infront of a computer and research shit on your own back when dialup was still large and datamine wiki websites didn't exist.

there are still lots of aspies who play runescape though

The crazy thing is, WoW's peak was ten years ago. TEN YEARS. The only thing that's ever hit anything CLOSE to WoW's numbers since then has been FFXIV ARR, and that's mostly because it was released during WoW's age of decline. If it came out in, say, 2012 along with Rift and AoC? It would be just as dead as them. How many more MMOs need to die before companies realize the WoW formula literally has never worked for anything other than WoW? Honestly? Like, holy shit how is this STILL a thing?

archeage is pretty good if you just play it for a comfy farming/fishing simulator.

it's not the same though since those aspies have instant access to hundreds of wiki websites and forums, bots that play the game for you, and are smarter than they were back in the 90s.

For cheap, sure. Just treat it like a singleplayer game though because there is very very little you can actually do with other players. When I stopped there was no dungeons to run together, no item trading so you can't even help each other craft, and most of the time it is more efficient to grind alone so you get all the drops. My 70 man guild died fast as we all got bored with leveling alts or the max level gear grind.

Endgame boils down to literal grinding of mobs and praying for RNG drops. Than you do it again. Than you pray the RNG doesn't destroy both your items when you try to combine the two. Armor and weapons are a bit better in that they don't get destroyed, but there is no specific grinding area for their improvement drops, so good luck!

Basically it's a blast for 60-70 hours or so, but fails as an mmo.

WoW's peak was actually in 2010 right before Cataclysm launched. The playercount and quality has been declining ever since.

The WoW vertical progression formula clearly works as shown by FFXIV's big success that brought SE back into the green zone. The problem is that other MMOs like Wildstar and Tera try to copy the formula and add some sort of twist to it and it flops heavily on them.

They killed their game by adding the stupid P2W shit those Nancy Boy Koreans like so much while also having a western-only price tag on top of it.

Which sucks because community driven MMOs are hard to come by.

until they will bring them profit these mmos will continue to get made.

I'd say a large part of it's success was being able to do all classes on one character. Rerolling by choice instead of having to every time you want to change your gameplay a bit helps. Also the Final Fantasy theme helps.

The wow formula is what is driving me away from mmos, it's so freaking boring. Wildstar flopped for many other reasons than the twist they tried, well it was also a shitty twist.

This. Modern MMORPGs like Black Desert make a shit ton of money by milking a small hardcore playerbase full of cash shop whales.

P2W shit

The original FFXIV before the WoW formula remake allowed you to do all classes on one character and it had a Final Fantasy theme too. It still flopped heavily because they weren't following the WoW formula among other issues that plagued the game

They then copied the WoW formula and fixed server related issues and it became a big hit.

I'm pretty sure it was shit for other reasons.

Like copypasted areas.

Why are gooks so hooked on crappy p2w games? I just don't get it

lost ark will save gaming as we know it
please korea

It was shit for many reasons but the biggest complaint was that it wasn't like WoW. WoW pretty much set up the formula for all future MMOs. If you don't copy it, your game gets left in the dust unless you can cater to a specifically niche audience like EVE for example.

It's a thing for them to pay for privilege, at least in Korea and when it comes to video games. P2W is just a thing they like to do.
Mostly because they mad bad at anything that isn't Stahcroft.

No.

why do korean games get so much shit for being p2w when open world western games like EVE and Runescape are just as bad?

in during a bunch of cancerous shitters try to claim p2w and dead game, etc because they are cancerous fotm mmo hopping faggots who are currently playing wow expansion like the cancer they are

How is EVE p2w?

>the biggest complaint was that it wasn't like WoW.
im pretty sure the biggest complaint was combat consisting mostly of standing around and the incredibly horrible UI lag

It flopped because it was bad.

The game was made by some chinese guys with a SE guy overseeing the whole mess.

Look at this fucking mess of a map. Shit like this cant be fun.

FFXIV is dog shit with so many core issues that the dev team just refuses to address

yes so exactly NOT like WoW is why it flopped, the UI lag and poor core game design only made it get rebooted faster.

buy plex from the cash shop for ISK, ships/funds/implants give large advantages for progression and pvp

it's the same level of pay to win as blade and soul and black desert

>so many core issues that the dev team just refuses to address
Like?

No one here going to play revelation Online when it comes out?

again, im fairly certain it flopped because it was really really bad, not because it wasn't like WoW

I only avoided it because fuck monthly fees. I stop playing to have fun and end up playing because I feel I have to. Also I heard it was just shitty in general when looking around, no mention of wow.

For me it more their fascination with goddamn RNG in everything. I don't mind p2win unless it's a pvp only game or it's specific items that fuck over the other players. Like the camo in BD, was so boring seeing half the players running around in that shit.

No.

it flopped because it was literally one of the worst games ever made

The monthly fees ensures there's new content on a consistent 3 month schedule and it keeps the F2P trash out. Have you seen how many BRs play F2P MMOs like BnS and ESO?

it was really really bad because it didn't copy WoW, it copied FFXI. the server issues just made it worse.

>sit here and allow me to passive aggressively try to argue why this shitty game doesn't have core problems

you're probably just cancerous little faggots from /vg/ trying to make a ffxiv general and that was your way to make it about ffxiv, by pretending to change subject to it, because thats how fucking pathetic you are

That's why I prefer b2p, I don't mind if they charge $40-50. It's funny how very few mmos even attempt to have a decent cosmetic cash shop. It's either crazy prices, or very few items with most looking like shit. If it's cheap and there's a lot of variety, than people will pay money to play dressup.

And wow doesn't even do that anymore, most of the time all that money is going directly to investors. Very few mmos keep up the new content beyond the first 9 months if that.

Looks like the game has environment loading problem that they throw in so much sight blocking rocks.

I don't even want to go there again. SAO:HF maps are pretty much the same as pic related.

Unlike 2004, the market is way over saturated.
The prevailing business model has changed from P2P to F2P whale hunting.
HUEHUEHUE (Daum for all its faults got this one right. The IP block was a good idea)
The list goes on.

Until wallet warriors finally stop subsidizing F2P maintenance cancer it will continue.

FFXIV is not good, stop this meme. 2.5 GCD and the single worst leveling experience of any MMO. you are railroaded from level 1 to max level. you cannot deviate from the quests you're given or you will literally be locked out of basic features like airships that ferry you from continent to continent.

They remade the whole world.

This is how the same area is in the relaunch

Well B2P is a incredibly risky model and its problems too. When sales dry up, they begin lack to the budget to further fund the game. See how fucked GW2 became when the B2P sales slowed down, they got less and less content and made some dumb design decisions to stretch out the meager content.

At least with FFXIV, you're guaranteed to get a major patch every 3 months. Even if it's 4 raid bosses, 1 primal boss, and 2 dungeons every 3 months it's still guaranteed and something compared to WoW that goes 13 months without a single update but still expects you to pay $15 a month.

what the actual fuck

>2.5 GCD
stop this meme
youtube.com/watch?v=R3LnKYshPMU

i can't dispute that leveling sucks though

>bought it when it only offered the 30 dollar package
>been too busy with work to play

Fuck

Maybe now it will have some new players

>after trudging through the grueling leveling experience and grinding for gear with the 2.5 GCD you can slightly reduce the GCD

you have issues it seems bro

2.5s GCD is the LEAST of FFXIVs problem. The main issue with the game is the lack of midcore content as a endgame player. There's only 2 sides, left is casual city and right is poopsock hard mode. There's no in-between mode.

GW2 also refused to do expansions for the first few years, or add much of any new permanent content really. Living Story was a retarded idea in the first place and probably made them very little money. GW1 did just fine by popping out expansions.

That was what I meant though, FFXIV is about the only one that does that. Most pay2play mmos don't keep up on it.

GW2 is a retarded idea.

GW1 was perfect for what it tried.

GW2 fucked everything up.

Coil was the perfect difficulty to appeal to everyone that matters: me
In HW they ramped it up to maximum fucking overdrive and most of the slightly more casual raiders like me literally unsubbed.
Living Liquid literally broke nearly every static that got to him. All of the serious raiders wanted to raid with other serious raiders, so the entire raiding community transferred to Gilgamesh (the most populated server) in a desperate attempt to get into a static that could actually beat Living Liquid.
It's pretty fucked.

Going by the old 3>1>2 rule. GW3 will be the best mmo in the world.

>It'll never be p2w guys
>launches
>clearly items that give slight advantage
>oh well, it's not a big deal
>times passes
>patch adds in 16-20
>someone notices a p2w failstack item mentioned from other versions of the game in RU/KR
>Daum assures us the game would never add it or be p2w
>p2p sub announced for more bonuses
>oh well it's not that big of a bonus
>next patch
>cash shop items sellable up to 100m/week currently
>no longer syncd awakening updates, staggered
>doing nothing to help prevent the ever growing gap between RNG lottery winners and less fortunate players thanks to boss loot mechanics, etc

All hope lost, they went full jew

>2.5s GCD is the LEAST of FFXIVs problem.
no it's not

99.9% of the game you're spamming spells/skills to fight monsters. this is mind-numbingly slow, and boring as everything else about the game.

none of the content matters when the combat is fucking boring and terrible. the old Final Fantasy games have more dynamic, engaging combat than this.

>Trying to sell a f2p mmorpg as b2p with the same f2p bullshit
>It doesn't work out for them

They're cutting the price because it's going f2p

On the bright side, Alexander Creator is supposed to be the same difficulty tier as FCOB.

Also, the people who transferred servers to raid are stupid since a cross server PF is coming out soon and Aether is a dead datacenter outside of Gilgamesh/Balmung.

>I have to wait half a second more than WoW to press a button, fuck this slow ass turn based Final Fantasy game

sure if you like grinding the same group of mobs every day until new content comes out where you have to grind a new same group of mobs.

There's only one item set that EVERYONE can get in the game and you must farm shitty worldbosses that spawn on an 8-16 hour interval and never drop shit to get them or stand at a nightvendor spending your shekels for overpriced gear.

The only remotely interesting aspect of this game is the character controls and combat. Everything else is shit and the cash shop forces expensive items on you for a few beneficial effects.

A costume is 30 buckaroos. 30 fucking dollars.

aaaaand you just lost. thanks for playing!

it just makes combat boring until around level 40 or so, depending on your class
which as i said is a legitimate complaint, but not necessarily intrinsically because of the 2.5 gcd

Nah, the entire old dev team is gone. With the current batch anything decent is borderline impossible. Just look at their only expansion, looked shitty as fuck to me, they learned nothing. Especially since they will wedge their own pet agendas all over it. Plant people and trannies unite.

I played the closed beta and really liked it, very close to buying it at launch.

Luckily Cred Forums has taught me to be cynical of every game so in the end I didn't cave in. Sometimes I try to get a guest pass but ultimately waiting for free2play.

No korean MMO has ever saved anything.

There has NEVER been a korean MMO which survived in the west because they're too retarded to understand that we don't want their games based around a casino model where you spend more money than anything else.

>you're spamming spells/skills
why do that when the game has precast feature

I'm just here imagining someone mashing a button super fast because they have ADHD or something.

>all korean mmo's are p2w

So do all Koreans spend their paychecks on mmo's? Are they all just rich? What's the deal with it.

If it is prospering so much in Korea there obviously must be a reason for it. Where is all their p2w money coming from?

It was so perfect that they had untold numbers and that is why they changed it to what GW2 is, obviously.

Why not get it? it's only 9.99. I don't know what this pay 2 win stuff is but it's a decent mmo that you can play with others or legit solo everything. If you want to try it out just ask for a guest pass at the general in /vg/.

Koreans and Chinese people play MMOs in internet cafes, where they pay by the hour instead of paying a sub fee or base game price. Paying to lessen the grind is a common practice there.

it's not good you faggot erper

What the fuck is wrong with Koreans? No, seriously. I've seen this happen more than once now.

>make an interesting MMO with several fascinating features like fishing boats, trading routes, naval combat, customization housing, owning your own farms, owning a fucking guild city

And then you just RUIN It all with the P2W bullshit and hardcore elements that are just mindless, tedious grinds. And any western publisher that gets its hands on one of these MMOs just goes FULL JEW within a couple months.

so why don't they just buy a computer

why do all those interesting looking asian MMORPGs die so quickly?

speaking of which what ever happened to archeage?

Prebuilt computers are overpriced, importing the parts to build a PC yourself is a lot more expensive, Koreans have to tie their Social Security number to nearly anything they do online, it's just not worth it when you can just go to a cafe down the street and pay a few dollars to play all your favorite games or use the internet.

>Expecting new Korean games to save anything
Protip: The only Korean shit that even has a decent population in PC Bangs are Fifa, Maplestory, DFO, Sudden Attack and Lineage. Everyone else either plays Overwatch or LoL

it's actually infuriating
they keep shitting out pure gold that is inevitably completely ruined by the time it reaches the US

I actually liked ArchAge until the P2W costumes came out. Otherwise the grind was completely fine, you only had to grind for the best weapon anyway. So who cares.

hint: korean game design is never pure gold

they are all designed to squeeze as much time or money out of you. fun gameplay comes last to making a quick buck.

Lineage eternal you mean?

fucking cucks REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I think its a shame. The game was brave in my opinion, poorly executed sure. But they went for something new and god knows the MMO genre needs some fucking innovation right about now.

The game died within one month of its release. If you bought the game now, you can't even be a top player on your server as others are far off. There basically is no PvP, at least not anything that requires skill.

Waste of money. Don't buy this. Played it at launch myself. Peace.

They didn't really go for anything new. They copied existing FFXI mechanics without putting thought into what made them work. Part of the original FFXI dev team worked on FFXIV 1.0 including the original director and they still couldn't salvage it.

The only real things I miss from 1.0 was much effort was put into the cutscenes. They blew most of their budget on motion capture and creating some vivid effects.

Oh yes, and a single costume from their gem shop cost like 30 euros. Dunno if they ever changed that. There was no other way to gain those costumes but to pay that money.

This combined with the fact the game has/had like six armor models for each class, all which look very similar.

How many of you go into mmos sole base for pvp?

Lemon is a gear carried and class carried. Looks like shit too.

I like this game but have no clue what is going on

>MMO PvP
has to be the most autistic thing ever to be brutally honest

gear and fotm builds matters more than player skill, people talk shit that they can mash a set rotation of buttons faster than you, it's retarded.

I now only play gw2 for wvw and the occasional gvg

looks like generic shit

they die quickly because they are shallow as hell

Black Desert Online at the surface looks like it has a ton of depth and customization, but when you actually play it, it has the depth of a mobile smartphone game.

There are far better farming snd foshing gajes out there and it's not like it's hard to go outside to fish or build a garden at all

Because for as interesting as they look they've often got no lasting appeal due to either being shallow or completely unbalanced in a way that turns off even paying consumers or the game just flat out sucks.

These games are made expressly for squeezing out as much money as they can because new MMO's are a dime a dozen in Korea.

Not him, but in my state you pay like $40 to fish for the year, and than another $35 for tags if you want to catch salmon steelhead or sturgeon.

Actually a garden sounds kinda interesting, but not really an option while living in an apartment.

Korea is the one who has introduced the worst MMO practices just behind China.

I wouldn't even play it if it was free.

Last I checked this game is F2P in Korea and Russia already. Why would I pay to play on a EU server?

>Pumpkin Rapier
Why the fuck did they never add in rapiers into sword mastery?

no it's p2w as fuck now

Guild Wars 1 was the only mmo with good pvp

That's cheap and if you can't afford it you could do oddjobs for a day instead of grinding 10 hours until you can actually fish or farm something interesting in a boring MMO. Working a low skill physical labor job is a lot more fun than playing a MMO.

Hey, I logged in for the first time and a random person gave me the rapier, shoes and cute hair thing

Is there an mmo that isnt dead? I just want a good deal with a healthy playerbase.

If a game has a healthy playerbase, usually the community is shit and full of kids.

Best chance is playing mmos that have a steady amount of players that isn't too big. Like LOTRO for example.

I think it's worth it. There's something about the game that makes it stand out from other MMOs (maybe because game client is stable and not shitty like other gook MMOs) But the game isn't for everybody. There's a free trial you can try out if you want.

Your choices are WoW, FFXIV, EVE, and maybe Runescape.

Every other MMO has shut down servers, gone complete F2P, or are complete ghost towns.

>Runescape
When do you ever get a sense of community outside of skilling?

I don't know that's why I said maybe. Community is such a broad term in MMOs. What kind of community are people looking for? You got obvious clique groups like PvPers or crafters, you got the autistic PVE nerds, you got dumb underaged kids and jaded old veterans, MMOs have like the most diverse community you can specify.

But I mean .. is it good?

Not really

You forgot the cash shop item that let's you repair endgame boss gear at x3 the efficiency saving you tons of silver/memory fragments, called artisan's memory. Not to mention the only things allowed to be sold on the marketplace from the cash shop are outfits, pets, and the value pack (30 day sub); the last three almost never being available because prices are restricted.

(You)

I honestly think FFXIV is the only MMO alive today to not pull this P2W shit. Their cash shop only sells cosmetic gear and dyes that can be earned in-game but not tradeable. The cash shop also sells mounts too but they are mostly ugly or recolored existing mounts. The best gear and cosmetics are all obtained through raiding, crafting, and PVP.

I'd rather play Revelation Online, to be honest.
