MORDHEIM AND SIMILAR GAMES

I've been making these threads at night, but im off today so lets start early on a mordheim/similar games thread. After some advice from anons my 4 man team of mercenaries have been slaughtering everything they encounter. The ability to hit twice with a grunt is unbelievable.

the team itself. I'm still not sure on how to build the stats so I'm just kind of winging it. also Are 2h weapons good for anything? I imagine getting a champion with 3 swings would be great instead.

bump

it's really night and day when you play right(ish)

How does it compare with the board game?

Haven't had a chance to play it to be honest, no one around here runs it as far as I've seen. But people have said that knowing the board games rules will help you in playing this.

now that I've got another leather armor and shield It's time to up the party to 5. I'm still not sure if 2 handed weapons are any good on certain units, but for now I'm just going to poke things with him.

bump

What are some similar games? I like the mix of combat and team management a lot.

valkyria chronicles, hogs of war, depending on how distant you want the connection then worms could count.

also FUCK THIS GAME I'VE BEEN GIVEN THE MARKED FOR DEATH OBJECTIVE 3 TIMES IN A ROW AND THE MARKED ONE WAS MY SECOND KILL WHICH INSTANTLY CAUSED THE ENEMY TEAM TO FAIL THEIR ROUTE CHECK.

I KILLED THE FUCKER GIVE ME MY EXTRA LOOT GAME

Hopefully GW license a Necromunda vidya. They're slowly doing it with all their old specialist games like Blood Bowl and Battlefleet Gothic.

Soon user, soon.

Oh yeah, that bullshit with the looting.

Thanks though, I liked VC but never tried Hogs of War before.

hogs of war can have some bullshit AI moments but it was a really cool introduction to this unnamed genre.

Man been wanting to talk about this game since I picked it up a week ago on sale. Can't really get behind any of the order warbands and have been bouncing between Skaven and Chaos but damn after the somewhat rough early game Chaos is fun as hell. Only finished Act 1 for now but heres what I got so far for story missions, usually have another Darksoul but I think i had to fire the last one for something

bump

thats a big team. I've been told the enemies will never have more people than you.

god damnit, I picked a high wyrd stone level and thought it was going to be a good one but NOPE LETS SPAWN THE LOWEST LEVEL GUY NEXT TO THEIR CAPTAIN.

Yeah usually I keep it to a 5 man team to level/loot but story missions are an exception

oh yeah I forgot those play by their own rules.
that said when is my faggot leather contact going to send me blue equipment

I can't even comprehend what makes this one so expensive.

I mean he's like one successful mission stronger than a normal one.

Ehh for cult thats a small price to pay for a good mutation, but for everyone else you're paying for an instant part of the payment skill training. Good if you need to reinforce right now

someone said the other day that there is a skill that lets your parry stance go on for multiple attacks but I can't find it anywhere. do you have to unlock it or something?

fair enough, I'm not hurting that badly for a youngblood then.

Check active skills its a stance

never mind I found it. I expected it to be passive but it's not.

ah, thanks. looks really useful. I mean parry is already giving me like 60 percent chance and if you are engaged do you really need all those extra movement points?

I couldnt stand the interface and the way you moved around. I expected something like bloodbowl which isnt the smoothest thing but fuck the way you do everything in mordheim is just retarded.

It depends? Like you may need Strategy points to disengage safely or switch weapons but for the captain I think most build him as a tank so its a really good skill because of his passive

my captain has a permanent debuff that makes it so he can't disengage anyways so I just put my blue light armor and shield on him and send him into war to tear into things with his blue sword. parrying 3 times would be amazing. plus there are abilities that increase parrying chance by quite a lot.

yeah Mordheim feels really counter intuitive some times but past that it's still pretty fun. I do find myself asking what the fuck they were thinking sometimes like how you can't just drop items.

>my captain has a permanent debuff that makes it so he can't disengage
On a lot of characters that injury is really good grounds for firing them but I guess if hes that durable its not that bad

Speaking about mordheim
is there a warrior priest on it yet?

You just need to always have him in a group really, you can't use him as a scout.

Yeah I think its the spellcaster for the DLC Witch Hunter Warband

Everytime I want to play mordheim
I remember the awful main story missions with skaven spawning holes and drop the idea

I've been playing Battle Borthers recently and I really like it. Even tough its early access its a pretty complete game now with the new perk and injury systems. Combat is fairly lethal and quick at all levels and goblins are actually challenging.

bump

I put all of my best armor on him and keep him with at least 1 other person every time he goes anywhere. if it was someone weaker I'd consider firing him but he can hit 3 times and has like 200 wound or whatever the health is called.

Honestly a lot of the story missions difficulty lies in knowledge of the map. Once you know what the set pieces are its not really that bad, like in the Cult Act1-III mission where you can skip tossing lures on the first two holes and go straight to the one that will actually spawn him

bump

I haven't been playing long enough to really know whats good, but I feel like that's good damage to be able to swing 3 times with.

fug forgot my image

also rolled almost perfect for all of the swings

bump

Fucking Mordheim makes me want to play it, but turns take so much it puts me off

Then it makes some real BULL SHIT stuff to you.

oh fuck that escalated quickly

i've just started my strategy games career and i've started with TW: shogun 2 and i'm liking it so far but it can be very random at some times and now that i see this i am interested.

what is this?

i tried this game, but it had super looooooooong loading times, seriously i felt like i was back in the 90s with a pentium II pc, how can you fuck up so bad?

ok I just leveled up my veteran level and it jumped back to 1. is this a known bug?

Yeah, if it's a new recruit and you can afford buying a new one then sure they're easily dismissible. But what you have you would have to be retarded to throw away for some fresh meat desu famalam. Throwing new meat away for wounds is ok, not veterans unless the wound makes them completely useless.

yeah, I'm worried about him getting a really bad wound but I protect him pretty well and usually send him in after fight has already started since he can dish out 120 damage and parry 2 times now.

Its the game adaptation of a skirmish-based wargame(d100 system) tied to the lore of Warhammer Fantasy. Its a much smaller scale than the TW games with your full active warband not even totaling a standard unit's size in the TW games. Game is turnbased but does not use the traditional strategy game grid system, instead opting for range in meters for determining actions like movement and attacks.

Good shit Merc user, just remember if you field an impressive they field an impressive and its not always a fun time. That said I think that one is one of the better impressives unleveled/unskilled so it should be alright

As of recently, they really improved the loadtimes for this game

Sadly, it still has the same issue where it's the same two sets of generic maps with minor variations, as well as the NPCs rushing you down.

If and when they release three more factions, and two more sets of generic maps, I'll probably go and give this game the time of day again.

I was worried about it but yeah I figured his stats and perks look good. my friend who plays skaven said their impressive has some huge down sides to it.

Yep the Skaven impressive is honestly kinda bad, it has Stupidity(If not engaged roll a die at start of turn to check whether or not he skips the turn) so you need to have a dude use guidance(or whichever skill made an allied unit ignore stupidity for a turn) on him or pray your RNG is good. Cult's impressive is also unimpressive early on but can become the best if they get the proper mutations. Keyword IF, the picture of my cult up top feature I think my 5th or 6th Impressive since the previous ones got dumped for not having useful mutations. This one has a good arm mutation so I'm probably gonna keep him unless his 5th level mutation fucks him over somehow. Don't really have much experience with the other 3 so can't give anything insightful but they all seem much more stable and good. SOB's doubles as a spellcaster and can fit through most doorways but does not have the large perk, Merc's is pretty standard, and the Witch Hunter one has some weird abilities

Can you customize the characters attires?

Are there cute girls in this game you can recruit?

Please don't bully, just curious.

It gets old fast tho, theres little item and quest variety at this point.

Yes. With the Cult of the Possessed, you can flaunt that chaos god privde

Hell no, and if there were even women, they would be troglodytes like all the men

Witch hunter impressive was the only one my ogre had problems with because he set my ogre on fire that caused damage over time. Besides that the Rat Ogre can be pretty annoying because he has a giant doge chance, but it lacks durability and damage in comparison and has stupidity.

Oh I see, 1 of 2 is good enough for me. I love strategy games too much to not play this game at least once.

Sister of Sigmar novices are pretty cute and the smuggler too, but she is DLC

Yeah it has great colour/pattern choice and a few alternate parts, and your chest gear actually changes to match your equipment

The Sisters of Sigmar's novice counts I guess? The face models are kinda eh though so thats probably a no

I can't take Rat Ogres seriously anymore after one story mission had my archers slaughter a rat ogre that had failed its stupidity check 6 times in a row(it took me 2 turns to find it first)

Same goes for my and Spawns. My Ogre once managed to brutalize one of those fucks in one turn without taking damage.

well, I lost my captain to nonsense. I thought I was playing it safe and had a 4 to 2 advantage which turned to 4-3, but they all targeted him and I kept missing on them so when we left the battle his effect was FUCKING DEATH FUCK. so in my anger I'm trying to rebuild. the shop has purple dueling pistols. should I go with adifferent build and make him a gunner this time around.

The Captain shines more as a frontliner, leave the ranged combat to the Youngbloods and Marksmen and yeah the AI is kind of a dick that way
