literally the greatest game of all time

nah its a 3/10

...

Perfect game, OP

You mean 300/10

yeah

It was decent with an exceptional soundtrack. The fanbase has tainted its otherwise alright reputation.

9/10 from me

It was pretty good, but the fanbase made it and everything about it insufferable

Undertale is such a stale, hard meme now. Literally the only people that still give a shit about it still are 12 year olds and redditors.

you have to admit this is kinda cool though youtube.com/watch?v=XUYNKFbDY20

It's just another game that appeals to people with no taste.

...

>Undertale funny moments #24

I want to ____ Red

i give it an 8.5/10 for subverting rpg tropes in a fun way and the amazing soundtrack

Yes. Highly memorable, both gameplaywise and storywise.

It's okay, the ost it's really good

8.5/10
kinda short and the genocide path was a disappointment

>Undertale RED runs on a better engine and is more polished than Undertale

Why is Toby Cuck such a cuck?

>all those UNDERTALE FUNNY COMIC DUB COMPILATION videos with cropped porn thumbnails

Good game, brutally executed by fandom who got bored of FNAF

>Killing all the great Undertale characters is disappointing
No siht

I lol'd
Thanks user

No.
The story is mediocre.
Only three memorable themes.
Gameplay only manages to be interesting a few little times.
Sans is the only memorable thing in this game.

Speaking of UTR, they're making an Annoying Dog Fight.

Poor art. less than 10 hours but I stayed captivated about it all along.
Lots of surprise. Some lovable characters. Catchy ost.

Looking back, it's more fun than a lots of games offered me those days. It's a good little fella.

Bold Papyrus fight when

gameplay was repetitive and boring, graphics were lazy, music was god tier, and story was alright

7.5/10

>tfw you've only played until mettaton (second form) and stopped because it got too hard and I lost interest
Is it even worth finishing it?

Semi-decent bullet hell RPG that was overhyped as fuck because it gave the illusion of choice and had tumblr bait characters.

Literally the only character I felt slightly bad killing was papyrus and the only ones I liked were papyrus and sans. I didn't feel bad killing sans because it wasn't a sad occasion, he acted like a worthy opponent.

So congrats Toby: You made one character I had pity for and one I could regard as a good challenge and the rest was just shitty filler.

Also how the fuck is "kill everything" and "not be a dick" treated as some sort of huge moral choice? fallout 3 pulled the same shit.

>illusion of choice
You what.
Pretty sure you can make choices.

This is all on one channel

>metaton
>too hard

>being so bad at vidya that you actually struggle with undertale

get the fuck out

Nahhhhhh

Yes, you have to be able to make choices for there to be an illusion of your choices mattering.

Good boy, have a treat.

Nah you guys don't understand, I have no patience for games like that, hence I rather stop playing than improve in a shitty game I'm only going to play once.

Frisk/Chara are boys, I hate this revisionism.

The story is complete Homestuck garbage, but the gameplay is pretty fun.

>illusion
Yeah, this is the bit I don't get.
If I choose kill everything the game plays out differently, no illusion.

Personally loved it, it was exactly what I was expecting

People that played it post hype probably had the wrong idea about what the game was supposed to be tho, and ended up disappointed. Classic case of autistical contrarianism preventing people from enjoying a perfectly good experience

I unironically think that Undertale is mediocre.
I'm not going to shit on the game just to be edgy and oppose the general opinion, I just think that it's a really lackluster experience that tries to compensate for its bare bones gameplay with story-telling and easter eggs. It markets itself as an RPG, but plays nothing like an actual RPG.

It's way too easy, the story is nothing mind-blowing, none of the game mechanics are notable in any way, and the art is really, really bad,
Also, I don't understand why people make such a huge deal out of the black and white morality, to the point of being the main theme of the game. It's not impressive or new at all, and doesn't really shed light on the good parts of the game.

The music was good though, but I suppose that's a given considering that Toby Fox is a musician.
That's why the game is mediocre in my opinion, I don't think it deserves the praise it gets and I can name multiple games released the same year that deserve more attention and praise than Undertale, but nonetheless, Toby did an alright job for his first game.

You made choices, but the illusion was that your choices actually TRULY effected things anymore than just 3 shallow endings. Even the neutral route variations were barely different.

You can eat a snowman alive, cause a fish lady to dissolve, let a kid fall off a cliff, and kill your adopted mom, but then not kill that one snowflake dude you saw who made a bad ice pun.

The "illusion" is that your choices don't matter as much as the game tries to convince you they do. It just alters the end result of the game for the most part and a few flavor text things. Your choices matter more in the Henry Stickman fucking flash games than undertale.

It was alright.
The fan content was more enjoyable than anything Toby put together for the "challenge" run.
>Genocide is supposed to be this brutal path where you tear everything apart and they pull out all the stops to kill you
>Literally the only real challenge is one skeleton, the rest blows over like a leaf on the wind
Undertale would have been infinitely better if it focused far less on socialization and events in world and more on the combat system. I wanted some Touhou difficulty, but got nada.

So, what, you're mad that you don't get to see the world where Annoying Dog is king? That you're just told that it's a thing?

The socialization shit was my favorite part of the game, I wish more RPGs had things like that.

>Fantasy / SciFi rpg with Seinfeld plots and humor never ever

Best AU

One huge problem I had with undertale was that it painted the choices you made as a big moral thing, when really they weren't at all. There were never things even approaching a grey area. No situations where its "If you spare that monster it will kill that human, but if you kill it you are a murderer" or "some monsters actually are dicks just like humans." If you played the game and used basic human morality you wouldn't kill a single important character the way it was set up. Toriel was kind to you so you wouldn't kill her, papyrus doesn't even want to kill you so you don't kill him, papyrus is best friends with undyne and would feel terrible if you killed her so you don't kill her so as not to crush papyrus, Mettaton matters to alphys (who has also been nice) so you won't kill them, and finally, while still wanting to kill you, Asgore is very obviously sympathetic towards you and doesn't truly want to kill you, so killing him would be wrong too.

If you play the game with a standard moral compass at all, you wouldn't kill any important characters besides Flowey. That shows that the "morality" of the game itself is flawed because your choices didn't have pros and cons in the long run, "good" ones had pros and "bad" ones had cons. Killing things that are trying to kill you first makes you a monster by the game's logic.

There was never a situation such as "do not hold prejudice against all monsters because the first one you met was evil" because literally the very next one you meet is the nicest thing on the planet.

There was never a situation where you actually had to think deeply about your choices, because you were determined to either do purely bad or good things or mix them up just for the sake of getting a different ending.

I agree, that half of it was enjoyable, it's just the other side of the coin was so piss poor, it soured my enjoyment. Plus (like with the fan battle in OP,) you can drop a bunch of socialization in the combat menus.

So sorry drops this game from a 7 to a 5

No.

Solid 7/10. I had fun.

>The gameplay was boring, a walking simulator with easy-as-shit puzzles.
>The battles were too easy, Undyne the Undying is the only hard boss, mainly because she hits extremely hard for some reason.
>The characters are shallow and bland.
>The game interrupts you every five seconds with some "joke" that 9/10 isn't even remotely funny, Hotland is terrible for this especially.
>Only one of the three main paths has an actual ending, while the other two end in a short phonecall and a talk with Chara The Edgelord.

You would only encounter him if you were looking for him.

>crowned goat over ocarina of time
>hurr it doesn't even matter its garbage 3/10

I was joking, but his existence is just kinda funny to point and laugh at whether you like the game or not

>Implying Gamefaq polls mean anything

This. You should go into this game expecting a really good RPG maker tier experience, not the second coming of christ. Then you won't be disappointed at all.

It was alright. I'm not a faggot who gets pissed at a game that tries to be progressive because in reality, who gives a shit about that. I did make it one of those games that I replay at least once a year, easy game to complete, just like SM64.

>implying your singular opinion matters over literal thousands in a goat contest

It's sad when a fan makes a more difficult and engaging battle in a fan game than anything found in the game it was based on.

Holy shit you are retarded.

Why is the Japanese community for this game so fucking based?
You look through their shit, and it's all just great fan-art and remixes. They even released a 10/10 remix album on the anniversary that was so good Toby gave it the thumbs up. It has Jazzy Hopes and Dreams on it.
Then you look at the fanbase outside of there and it's just a massive shitshow.

I did get annoyed when people tried to give it awards for "diversity" in gaming, but so did Toby and he said he would never accept such a bogus award so it checks out.

Also I'm intending to do that too.

It seems like the Western fanbase for any game or series seems to be the shittiest.

At least that I've seen.

great argument

Red did nothing wrong

I like you guys

Have a free Sans poster

What argument?

Your right, the next game of all time poll it will surely win again.

Yes it was and still is.

Not going to say it was GOAT, but it's genuinely a good game. It's story, dialogue, gameplay, theme and especially the music make up for it's graphics, but you can argue that was unintentionally intentional so you don't expect more from the game at face value.

its the 3rd best under game

I didn't mind the short game length since the game is meant to be played at least twice. If the game was padded out it would have been a slog to beat it the 2nd time.

>what is irony
its very clear you didn't have one

very likely yes, it will at least always be in the top 10

No but the porn is amazing

I guess it's insanely good if you're a lifelong kissless NEET with anxiety issues, otherwise it's just regular indie garbage

not really, it's a sub par game talked about like it was perfect and flawless although it did nothing original and either tried to insult all rpgs for not being a passive little pussy or "quirky" characters that you were rip offs of other characters from other games or web comics.

I don't think it tried to insult them at all though, Toby loves RPGs

characters ruined by the fandom

the soundtrack is decent at best with some good and repetitive songs. still runed by the fandom

gameplay is unique with some twist

endings are a good idea

final score 6/10

fandom 2/10

It certainly had a lot of expy characters, I'll give you that.

It does some genuinely clever stuff with its battle system, has a lot of memorable moments, and has some great jokes. Papyrus' blue attack is honestly the funniest thing I've ever seen in a singleplayer videogame. The soundtrack is phenomenal. I'd say it deserves a lot of the praise it gets from those traits alot.

I don't think I'll ever replay it, though. On my second playthrough I spent the whole game wishing it was a Papyrus or Metaton part.

>Characters ruined by trhe fandom

don't forget characters MADE by the fandom

>make a HFY game where humans are practically gods compared to monsters and even a small child could wipe them out
>players get insulted if the characters they are murdering hate and curse the MC while they die

Pretty much this. It's really clever and subversive, particularly if you grew up playing classic JRPGs. The writing is also hilarious and/or heartwarming at times.
Unfortunately Toby's fear as come to pass and having too big and too cancerous of a fanbase has ruined it. That wouldn't be so bad, except it's pretty much impossible for someone who hasn't played it to go into the game with zero expectations, which is what it really thrived on.

No, you definitely get a raw deal with the Genocide Route. I know that's the point, but it still sucks and seems like a hamfisted way of trying to get the player to play the game the way Toby wants them to.

>Lots of grinding
>Fights quickly become a snore, with all but two bosses going down in a single hit
>Sans is obnoxious to beat on purpose
>The ending consists of having a cringe-inducing chat with the edgiest character since Shadow the Hedgehog

>"better enjoy undertale before Cred Forums ruins it for you!"
>tumblr does everything to ruin it by making it homosuck 2.0

It was pretty good overall, though the Genocide route was intentionally terrible.

All in all however, it did a few things which were uncommon or unconventional, and I think it earned its adoration for the most part.

yes

Honestly this is why I'm fine with how short the game is. With all the secrets and ways scenes can play out it would be a pain if it was 10 or more hours long.

>characters ruined by the fandom
Fuck me if this doesn't apply almost exclusively to Sans and Chara.

Don't know, don't care. All that matters is that I got a decent couple of faps from it.

the best game i never want to play again

Sums it up pretty well

>Not smiling

Take your poster back and fix it.

I had the privilege of playing it completely blind and had an amazing time with it. The game really leans on fucking with your expectations, and if you go in knowing the gags or the big character moments you pretty much ruin it for yourself. There were a lot of "holy shit" moments, like Papyrus' fight or Flowey commenting on savescumming to save Toriel or Asgore smashing one of the controls or Metaton turning into Ziggy Stardust or pretty much anything else Metaton did, which I really loved. It was definitely a contender for game of the year for me.

When did so many Tumblr users come to Cred Forums?

This. It's worth a playthrough, but I never really felt the need to play it more than once.

Or the spider chick's muffin monster. Can't believe I forgot that one.

If this was tumblr, we'd all be saying "11/10 GREATEST GAME EVER MADE ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE IS A CIS SCUM BIGOT THAT NEEDS TO LITERALLY KILL THEMSELVES SANS IS MY HUSBANDO"

>boys
They're self inserts, so they can be whatever the fuck you want.

Though I'm not one of the fags that insist they're "Nonbinary" BECAUSE their gender isn't specified.

That was awful.

Does this mark the end of Dorkly?

>t. Cred Forumsfag who spends his time in cringe threads, and nothing else

>Dorkly in charge of humor
I hate to say it, but SMG64 did it better.

dorkly already ended long ago

>We'll never get a final ending gaster fight
>All that teased shit and hidden fun values for fucking NOTHING

I can't believe that piece of shit managed to get over millions of subscribers and isn't even old enough to browse Cred Forums.

best character

The only flaws the game has are a lack of Hard Mode and that the overworld sprites are ugly as fuck.
Everything else is literally subjective and not an argument, I personally think it is a great game.

Not gay if it's a robot.

...

There's a lot of hand-holding too. Like, you literally cannot lose against Toriel by accident, you deliberately have to try to die to her.

It's pretty good, yeah. One of the better games released around its time.

I don't know why people think the fanbase is unavoidable or something

That is literally the point

user
That was deliberate
She didn't really want to hurt you

I didn't like Undertale when I played it.
Every time I think of it now I think of all the really annoying parts, and none of the things that were kinda funny.
Just sorta felt like playing a webcomic, your enjoyment and emotional connection comes from how much you like the characters, I was neutral about some, I hated the others.

But none of that actually matters.

You must just be lucky then. Everywhere I went, no matter where, I just kept seeing Undertale cancer all over for MONTHS. Everyone was talking about it, everyone was making art, or videos, or LPs about it.

>Played the game last winter
>Was already spoiled on most of the game from browsing Cred Forums
>Decide to do Genocide run first so that I can fight those bosses, then do a Pacifist run after resetting right after Sans
>Got completely stuck on Sans, gave up after a few dozen attempts

Should I go back at some point and try to beat him, or shall I just start over and play the game properly?

So?

Just because a flaw is in there on purpose, doesn't excuse the flaw.

Every single day there's a 'Was Undertale THAT good?' thread and I swear it never ends.

It's not a flaw just because you say so, user.

I mean I saw all the threads, the youtube videos, the art, sure. But guess what?

I just ignored them

I wonder what this button does

Yes but the problem is that it was a bit overhyped and even with all the good reviews that doesn't mean everyone will enjoy it the same way. Just look at Projared or Ben (Ben and Jery (plus Steven)), they really didn't think it was that special.

Theyre boys in those pics too user ;^)

>Having a boss you literally cannot lose to isn't a flaw, thus taking away any challenge from said battle

Yeah, if you say so.

Why bother even trying to dodge her attacks, or try at all? Standing perfectly still guarantees survival, so no point in doing anything but attacking or sparing.

That isn't a flaw though

It's using mechanics for storytelling in a way that isn't immediately obvious to most players

They're whatever you want them to be, partner

You're missing the point.

Nowhere does the game tell you that you can't lose to her. The first time through the demo way back when I wasted all my healing items getting through her.

The player is male = both of them are male
The player is female = both of them are female

See:

It was pretty good but entirely reliant on the story/characters and just like literally every thing else that does that (movies, books, etc.) the more times you're exposed to it the more you get tired of it. So when it's posted all over the internet with people who are newer to the experience raving about it people go back and play again expecting that level of satisfaction only to like it a little less each time until you get people posting about "how shit of a game" it was. Rip on brave vidya games.

>literally
so not the greatest of all time
thanks for clearing that up

Want to explain it then? It just seems childish to me to dislike the game just because you're aware that, somewhere, someone is making boring youtube videos or cringey fanart (which no one is forcing you to look at).

It was all right, don't get why people say it's the greatest. I think it's because Toby had a lot of 2deep4u awful shit during his endings which left people with an impression the game has a lot more deep than it actually was, but the game itself was all right.

Despite it's cancerous fandom, Undertale is still GOAT.

What did he mean by this?

What exactly was "2deep"?

That's not why I dislike the game though, it was just tiring seeing it everywhere I looked, whether I actually watched the videos or not.

Yes, but the massive hypetrain soon spoilt the game for everybody
But that happens to popular things in general, hype kills everything. Still a good game
