Thoughts on Battlefield 4?

It is what BF3 should have been. They finally unfucked the team balancer; friend squads are no longer unbreakable. They finally added a real commander mode back.

The release was a disaster. EA intentionally underallocated servers, and many maps had sound or clipping issues.

The maps themselves are decent, but nothing amazing. Classics like Karkand are kept behind DLC paywalls.

The game had surprisingly good netcode.

You could play ingame or on a tablet. Unfortunately, they discontinued support for the tablet app. Shame since that was partially a selling point for their game

You join the game as commander through Battlelog if the option is available. Some private servers may turn it off.

Its starts off like conquest where you go around capturing points but all the points have a rocket launcher that fires at the enemy team's aircraft carrier every few seconds. Once the carrier health is halfway down, it blows open and it becomes a really clustered game of rush.

There are things I like about it and things I dont.

Playing it on PS4 and I am not enjoying it a whole lot mainly because on very graphically intense maps like Shanghai the FPS drops to 15-20fps. Waiting for the PC version to go on sale.

Eh, frankly only bad heli pilots get low. If you go in low and slow you become RPG/tank fodder. Good heli pilots will just hover near some kind of blocker terrain and let their gunner go ham, and occasionally divebomb vehicles at an angle they can't respond to.

The SMAW works on the same principle, so smashing aircraft is no biggie.

Vehicle thermals are stronk as fuck and just being able to spot your targets from far away easily is a big advantage on hardcore.

It depends. Most servers on hardcore are full of edgy crybabies and for the rest, they barely give a shit. I own a server and only ban people if they behave like asses for a long peiod of time or cheat.

All I play is Hardcore, health regen and auto-repair suck in normal play. Only thing I miss is 3rd person vehicle view otherwise its much more skill based having to be mindful of your health.

But hardcore is the easy mode, it's for people who can't shoot for shit. The game mode throws balance out of the windows as it only favors weapons with high RPM. Classic mode was where it was at.

Support and Engineer are the best classes, but when I play one of them, the other one isn't around when I most need them.
I only use the GPMG's and I don't think I'll ever get my favorite gun, the m60, because there's no servers that run gulf of Oman for me to get the assignment, unless I wanna play on a server for hours to get my chance.

I attack helos with TOW missiles.

Serpentine pattern whenever you go out in the open, that way snipers probably wont be able to hit you.
RPG is best unguided missile weapon, if you can hit.
Spawn on squad whenever you can, they are probably in a better spot compared to wherever a capture point will spawn you.
Open maps use a longer range scope or a magnifier, while on close maps like op:locker use a high-ROF gun or a shotgun.
Play support and drop ammo, especially during large battles. I always run out of ammo when I'm not playing support.
Don't fly stuff, you'll get shredded by people who only play in air vehicles.

The AN-94 is literally the only reason I still play BF4.

AN-94 is propably the best gun in mid-ranges. Can even work in long range, I sometimes countersnipe with it but I've been using it 90% of my time with the game.

The AEK is purely close range, run and gun style.

Did they buff the AEK? When I was still playing a few months ago, it would be extremely inaccurate in long range, no matter how well you time your tapping.

Reconnecting just says the server can't be found. I'm logged into Origin, I can view the server browser, but I can't join any games. It does this constantly. I play fine for a couple hours then I lose connection and it says lost for hours.

AEK absolutely destroys in close range, but I don't see it much in normal play. Go to a locker server and it might be 50% of the guns in use. I hate going up against it because it is too good at what it does, and I can't use it because its so ugly. I mean it is just a hideous gun to look at.

A skilled person can one shot people, but on casual that bolt single shot have to hit more than one time on casual core, while the bullet sponge sees your 3d spot arrow even though he doesn't see you, shoot aimlessly in that direction making your aim suck and luckily gets a hit that staggers you and then his team mates comes in and does the same.

Not until Giants of Karelia did the team learn that putting flags in a line and not creating enough breaks in lines of sight just doesn't work with modern view distances. The difference is BF1 is set during a time period where bolt action rifles were commonplace, whereas the AN94 and AEK - while prototype weapons, are still just yet another assault rifle which there's already plenty to choose from. It doesn't change the pace of the game unlike giving everyone a SMG in BF1 when they should be rare and impactful when you actually see one.

Honestly the destruction wasn't that impressive in BC2. It only seemed good because it was a fresh new thing that no other multiplayer FPS games had at the time(?) but really it was all very canned animations applied to the same copy pasted buildings on every map. In 4 you can blow out thin walls and stuff, it's just less over the top and more natural so you won't notice it as much.
