Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King - 3DS - TBA 2017

>What game should i start with?
3, 5 or 8
>What are the best versions of each game?
I - SNES with fan translation
II - SNES with fan translation
III - SNES with fan translation or GBC (SNES is better overall, GBC has a couple more extras.)
IV - DS or Mobile (Mobile version has Party Chat restored, is otherwise identical to DS version.)
V - DS or PS2 with fan translation (DS has an additional waifu to marry, PS2 has better graphics.)
VI - DS
VII - PS1 (3DS version coming September 16th 2016)
VIII - PS2 (Mobile version is gutted, 3DS version is coming sometime in 2017)
IX - DS (Needs to be hacked to get locked content)
X - On pretty much everything (no plans yet for a western release)
XI - PS4, 3DS and NX (coming sometime in 2017, no plans for western release yet)

Stop making this a general please.
Don't be mad that your shitty thread on /vg/ gets no replies.

Those are some nice abilities and spells you got there. It'd be a shame if something happened to them.

>the next two bosses you must lose to advance the story

I actually managed to take out both of Stroms minions before losing once.

I did the same, didn't realize it was an unwinnable fight at first

Thinking of getting it or SMT IVA, can you guys sell me on the game?

I wasted all my herbs in the first fight against the monsters. That fight didn't feel unwinnable at all and then suddenly they used a desperate attack.

SMT or FF or any big console RPG maybe wouldn't exist without DQ. Buy it out of respect if you have never played a DQ game before.

>In spanish is worse.
>Kiefer is called Cleomenes.
>Maribel is called Gorgo...
This can't be real.

>no pubic hair
Boner: Gone.

>Gorgo

>ruff

Are you fucking kidding me

just got dq7, my first time, finished the first island and im working on the volcano now. i feel like im not playing right? is there a way to regain lost MP? i also dont feel like im doing enough damage. any advice would be gr8

when tf does this game pick up im 3 hours in and it's been nothing but fetch quests and running in circles and then there was a dungeon.

>i feel like im not playing right?
Is this a question? Is this a statement? Who the fuck knows.

Do you never really fond weapon upgrades? I've got ptsd from one game where like two towns in a row I upgraded someone's shit and then found the 890 gold weapon in a chest next cave, I forget if it was 6 or 5

You do realize Gabo is essentially how Japaneese hear the noise wolves make right?

Go to the inn dumb dumb. That restores mp.

If you want to do more damage purchase more gear

Shit happens. But i've had to upgrade at the shops every 2 zones or so.

It'll get better later when your stats improve to reasonable levels and you start getting some useful spells and abilities. Buying new gear is really helpful in the beginning when it can mean doubling your damage output.
Theres an item you get eventually that restores MP when used for infinite magic.

No, it isn't.
And no, it's not the word they use for barking either.

i understand that, im wondering if there's a way to do it in between inn visits.
both? I just dont feel like im doing too hot right now
yeah, ive been saving up for the big mallet and the whip as well as the best armor I can

>Are you enjoying Dragon Quest VII 3DS?
Yes.

>What would you rate it so far?
8 out of 10. Probably 9 out of 10 when I get classes and the difficulty kicks in. Just lost Keifer and still I'm killing everything in 1 turn.

Does the DQ7 remake have as much crazy postgame and customization as DQ9?

Kill yourself.

Do you know that you can check google?

Magic water which is a rare item.

Don't spam all your spells on weak mobs.

Why can't you Zoom to your boat?

>LOST Keifer

what does this mean. if he dies do i lose him for good or something?

>that image
>implying you can interact with the pedestals

Is it a good idea to try to master all the Basic classes since their abilities carry over?

>gauntlet

Ok this shit is fucking retarded, everyone's level 16 and they have edged boomerang / chain whip and I'm still getting worn down way too fucking easily.

Doesn't help that dazzle/sleep/awoo never fucking work ever for no good reason other than the game hating me

He leaves later in the game for a story reason.

No.

9/10.

My only complaint is how the characters drag their feet for a split second before they run. Some games do that and it bugs the hell out of me. As far as story goes, I'm not too far in, but there has been some tear jerking going on, and any time a game can get me to feel actual emotions, I am excited. A big big big plus for me is how in the battle system. when you are readying your attack or defending, your character's face their backs to you. I love it in Phantasy Star, and I love it here, because I feel like it gives battles a little extra depth.

As for the music, it's hit or miss with me, but I generally like it. As far as everyone getting pissed off about the soundtrack not being orchestrated like it's Jap counterpart, I think the complaint lies in none of them actually having played the English version, or at the very least taking a go at the soundtrack on say, Youtube, because it sounds almost the same, and I would say that the orchestrated version has more oomph, but they generally sound the same to me.

Just play defensive and spam that free heal stone until the final match.

What island are you guys currently on? I'm currently going through Emberdale, I really want to change classes already, but I heard it'll a good 10 hours or so until then.

Sandstone island

took me 16 hours to change classes

>mfw Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Professional is now a thing
Never ever for us, but still

Change class island

18 hours for me

Alright I've passed 30 hours game time and still haven't gotten another party member.
When the hell do I get Melvin?

here :^)

Whew lawd, from the thumbnail it looks like she has extra woolly overgrown jungle armpits.

>20 hours
>still not as the island with the Dharma Temple
>people say they got there in 15-18 hours

Don't know if I'm exploring more or just slow. But at least its not 35 hours like the PS1 game.

I've never actually played a DQ game before, but am itching to put my 3DS to use, so would you say it's a fine starting point?
For reference, I was a very big FFV fan

20 for me but I fucked around in the Casino for a good long while

Just watch, we'll get Joker 3 but not the Pro version again

Squeenix is really going full Monster Hunter with the Joker games though, two versions for every game released

yes and no

It's not a difficult game but it's extremely long (100hrs) so you might burn out before finishing the game

And when he says it's not difficult, he literally means you won't be challenged by anything.

no there are some hard bosses

There really aren't.

>I'm a le hardcore gamer xxD

>Start Dragon Quest VII
>Finally get to move around
>Do mandatory sleep
>Walk around
>Talk to 2 npc's near harbor
>Walk between them
>Get stuck between the 2 npc's at the harbor
>You can't move anywhere anymore and have to start over
Fuck sake.
Well at least it's literally the start of the game.

Good for you? The game is still very easy.

I just got done with the Animal Village. Don't remember (it's been 9 hours since I stopped playing) if I got the new island unlocked or not. It's really good though, I've only played I, II, III, and V. Enjoying the fuck out of it, and all this talk of different classes being in the game is pretty exciting. Loved the job system from FFV and BD.

>nothing is hard for an 1337gamur like me xDD

All your shitposting aside, every encounter in the game is very formulaic. It's not barbie horse adventure sure, but difficult is not a word you can realistically associate with DQ7.

>Yay green text!

They did on DQIX but now they're Kiefer and Mariel
Gabo is Gronzo which is better than fucking Ruff

When does the group realize they're going to the past?

It was partway through Regenstein when I did party talk and Maribel talk about it, but I never recall any specific revelation that they were in the past.

They realize it around the second island.

When they visited present day Ballymolloy

When they come back from the first island and then go visit the island in the present, they theorize the island might be a duplicate or from the past. When they come back from the second island and visit it in the present, they just declare it must be time travel, since everyone in the town confirms the actions you did in the past was handed down over many generations. From then on, they basically just declare everything is time travel. Which is fine, since all evidence points to it on future islands as well.

But that was more "it's ballymolloy but different! what's going on I don't understand waaaah"

Is alltrade abbey the worst part of the game?

yea well the idea of time travel isn't something you teach in medieval villages

>/vg/ thread in Cred Forums

Regardless, yes I'm still enjoying it.

Ruff is cute! CUTE!

On the PS1, it was not only the hardest part, but the hardest part in the whole series.

I don't know about the remake. I am about to go there. I hope it isn't goint to be 6 hours like the PS1 game.

>Regenstein time
>alright I can't wait to save this town and have everyone be super grateful and shit!
>Felix' dad literally just crumbles
>it's assumed everyone else did too as time went on
>but you saved one kid I guess
>the town doesn't even exist anymore in the future and has wasted away to nothing but a field

dude what the fuck

You can't save everyone, user.

The Crystaline Entity has no feelings. It only feeds.

What?

Like I can at least understand why they'd go with "Ruff" since it's a generic bark and it's the first thing he says before he can talk.

I think the original Japanese went with "Gabo" because the japanese onomatopoeia for generic growl is "Garu".

I basically plowed through it

Its a Star Trek reference about a roaming entity that doesn't care. It just hurts people becomes it comes natural to it, like the grey rain.

dragonquest7.nintendo.com/quick-start/

simple guide for the first twenty or so hours of the game

It's not the rain though. It's a fucking monster doing it.

THE MOTHERFUCKING GAUNTLET AAAAAHHHHH

What fucking level should I be? I feel like i've reached a dead fucking end

grey rain was caused by a monster that was jealous or some shit

Just like Lore and Q controlled the Crystaline Entity.

>Using guides

The only DQ game I ever played was DQ9. How does this compare?

He wasn't jealous or anything. He's just doing it because the demon lord told him to.

>guides

Story is stronger, characters are stronger.
No customized characters and I feel that the class system is not as good.

This one is better. Small story arcs and a class system like DQIX, but better characters and story.

I FINALLY UNLOCKED JOBS BROS NOW WHICH DO I CHOOSE

How this one is better over the PS1 version, I only care about the costumes but I like the sprites and shitty 3D graphics more

I played builders at pax. It's just a Minecraft ripoff.

Make everyone a jester.

Turn everyone except the MC to Priest so you can get Buff on everyone.

m8 we don't have a general.

We are over at /vr/

Fuck, I can't remember where the Digsite was.
Anyone remembers?

Just made it to the arena. I dropped the game for like a month when I played this on the PS1. I think I've got this down in the 3DS version. I can't fucking wait to unlock these classes. Maybe I'll finally beat the game this time.

>Ruff at level 1 is almost as fast as Maribel is at level 12

This kid needs to slow down.

>They removed ranger

reeeeeeeee

roamer camp island

I want Maribel to do things to me

Isn't that the magic knight class? Did they just change the name? Is there a class chart for the 3DS version?

>When you exploit the slim dungeon for easy Job leveling.

Almost at Hero and I only just got classes.

How long did it take you?

I've been doing this for 12 hours straight.

Some folks just love grinding, I suppose.

I don't think there is a video games series with better pornographic content than Dragon Quest.

Loving the game but what the fuck do I do in Green Thumb Gardens? I quick saved in the middle of the story and the last thing I remember is the maid kissing Carraway(?). Maribel is suggesting I find Lavender but she's nowhere in town.

Always check the top left of the town. I hated that part. I talked to fucking everybody before one of them said that she saw someone at the top left of the town.

She might be in her room in the top level of the item shop.

What kind of things, user?

I like how Ruff's Wold wears armour too in his Paladin state.

Thanks guys. So I'm like not even 10% done with of the game yet, right?

>Dragon Quest VII
Is a new game or another port?
I lost the fucking count of this games, the last one I played was one where you had fucking wings like fag angels or something
Was that the one before this one?

Fucking too many enemies made my party level 19 before getting vocations. Anywhere I can grind some mastery out? Fucking level caps.

Yep. There's a lot more to this game. I'm about 16-17 hours in and I'm 2 boss battles away from getting classes.

>Always look down wells just in case
>Check this one out
>A Wellwisher appears
>Fucking casts Kasnooze and kills ruff

Fuck this game. This is going to give me PTSD

my kinsman

At least it's not quite as bad as Joker 2, even the fucking rocks are mimics there.

>Playing the Casino
>Playing the 10 coin slots.
>Bet all out max the slots
>Get 7-7-7

I'M FUCKING RICH

I haven't played Joker 2 in forever, I hope the rock mimics have dumb names. Or are they just Rock Bombs?

Nah they're regular mimics/trap boxes but for whatever reason they can disguise themselves as fucking anything. Including the mining spots.

The slime dungeon. The level cap there is level 20

And they just take the regular cannibox form once found out? Huh.

Any classes that have Kasap?

I want mar to learn it.

JUST ABOUT TO STORM THE FUCKING AUTOMATRON FUCKING BASE

GOING TO TEAR OFF EVERY ROBOT HEAD AND SHIT DOWN THEIR METAL NECKS

THE ALMIGHTY HAS CHARGED ME WITH THE DUTY OF EXTERMINATING THESE MACHINES WITH ABSOLUTE IMPUNITY

I AM THE FIST OF THE EMPEROR

Calm your autism bud.

How does the gameplay compare to Etrian Odyssey?
I'm starting more JRPGs and haven't played any DQ, and only played EO4

ANY VOCATIONS I CAN PUT ON MARIBEL FOR KABUFF AND KASAP

I CANNOT CALM UNTIL MY BOOMERANG HAS BEEN DIPPED IN THE OIL OF THE NONBELIEVERS

Monster Masher

I'm planning to make the Hero a Pirate, Maribel a Paladin and Ruff a Gladiator

Does this seem as an alright configuration? I don't really want to grind slimes for TOO long

Did you remember to take your pills?

That stupid tiger faggot used like 8 desperate attacks during the rematch, I thought that was just their thing.

I gave a 9 but I have to finish it yet. Pretty good.

SHIT BRB TAKING MY ANTI-PSYCHOTICS

get pills against my orders

There's a guy that lets you rename your party if it really bothers you.

>no Inn in The Haven
>no real Church either
>have to Zoom away and back every time I want to heal/save between tablet dives
Am I missing something or is this abstract hell real?

Also
>do Metal Mannequin tablet
>get hit with Kacack
>30 damage party-wide
NOPE'D the fuck out of that one.

>finally get Mervyn
>realize he has no job experience at all while the rest of my team is already in advanced classes
They couldn't have at least given him some warrior levels or something?

Why can't I select any Monster Classes? I have a bunch of hearts yet they aren't available in alltrades

Is there any decent way to cheese leveling masteries after you get past level 20?

They have to be in the bag of the character who you want to change to the monster class.
Does anyone know if you can sell monster hearts? I have 50+ slime hearts I don't need.

I'm loving it. My favorite part is that you get to explore islands in past and present.

Yeah, you can sell them. 200 a piece, at least for slime hearts.

Was taking my time, but decided to try moving a bit quicker only to realize that I have to keep doubling up to talk to specific npcs to actually move the plot ahead.

...

How old is Maribel?

>Did you enlist the help of Autonymus
>hit yes accidentally
>get called a liar

Well fuck.

I think her and MC are 16, Keifer is 17.

Monster Masher

Do puzzles ever become a bigger part of the game? Like in dungeons and stuff?

Loving the game either way, just beat the mecha island.

I gave it an 8. Really enjoying the adventure, though I can't wait for jobs to be available. I'm just afraid I'll get too invested in the game and eventually drop it like I usually do with 80+ hour games.

same, although im really keen on beating it. sense of accomplishment. im on the island where you get classes and im already overwhelmed.

what should i do with ruff?

>playing the game
>got 11hrs in so far
>Keifer leaves the party for a bit
>probably nothing, he'll be back
>he walks me to the portal and says bye
>think he'll make a triumphant return later in the game, I know it
>look up Keifers story because can't wait any longer, and want him back already. He doesn't come back
What!!!!?

dumb wojack poster.

When can you cash in your Mini Medals?

I bought it but haven't touched it because I've never gotten into Dragon Quest until today and I just beat Dragon Quest 1, which was surprisingly good

Are Dragon Quest 2 and 3 short like 1?

Sp what do you think happened to lavender and carraway?

according to one NPC, the founder of wilted heart was a bachelor all his life. But the graves of carraway and lavender are next to each other in the monastery. Also, can you find carraway in past greenthumb?

They're a good bit longer, but still pretty quick.

Where can you see your Job Exp?

And what's all those monster hearts for?

You had to explore a labyrinth and find them and place the pieces yourself in the original. So yes, it did look like that.

Don't you get it? Lavender becomes a nun, watching Carraway far away without marrying him.

>but the monsters are too stunned to move!

Is this because of your Style?

;_;

how bad is the slower menu transitions.
can anything be done for it

The hint is from Lavender hating receiving help from others. The nuns practice a 100% independent, self-reliance lifestyle.

Pirate it on the n3DS

So she messed with Carroway's body without his consent in order to be buried next to it?
What a bitch
What

by increasing the clock speed or whatever?
i only got a o3ds with cfw so thats a no go

That's a grim interpretation. We don't really know who died first after all.

Yeah, overclocking that shit.

The framerate issues in battle is fucking horrendous on n3ds too. But I'm playing off cart. I should look into that overclock thing for 3ds games.

Don't forget to visit his grave

Kiefer a shit

Bros before hoes.

How the fuck do I take out those bandits after getting ambushed? They're busting me up harder than any boss so far.

>Starts the adventure
>Leaves eventually

Grind those slimes user (^:

>tfw been ages since Joker 1
>tfw equally ages since Joker 2
>tfw loved both of them, especially the soundtracks
>absolutely hated the sheer amount of grinding
Couldn't I just emulate them, then abuse AR codes to get shittons of EXP and 100% scout rate, and fun my way through?

>grinds for buff
>manages to cast it twice for everyone
>enemy has defense-piercing attacks

Seriously, what the fuck? Since when throwing stones doesn't count as a psychical attack?

>all those dialogue options trying to get Keifer not to attend to Lala or come clean about it
>"Haha no way, I'm just being friendly"
>Do the temple shit
>Kiefer doesn't even help and apparently Lala hurts her ankle?????
>Time to go
>"Oh by the way..."
Fucking Kiefer

Demo on psn was actually good. I don't like minecraft but i'd play builders with pleasure

Lavender died first, you can go back to the island 30 years later and lead Carroway to her grave at the top of the hill.

Can I get a hint Cred Forums?

I just hit the world with the NPC that won't let me into town, the abandoned castle and the river Nihil and I can't figure out what to do. I spent about 30 minutes exploring every nook and cranny in the castle and I'm still stuck.

Go inside the Castle/pyramid.
You will meet a npc there.
He will tell the others to let you in.

>random bandits are tougher than killer robots and demons from hell

Fucking RPG logic

it must be a masterwork stone

Party heal is far off on the advanced classes, isn't it?

I tried buff at first and it didn't work.
Best strat is to get an attack all move on everyone and just go crazy.

So, turn everyone to warrior then?

Oh wow, I missed an entire staircase that led downward. I'm a fucking moron.

Thanks for the nudge user.

Sage gets that one.

Anyone have info on how The Haven or the Monster Farm works? Trying to find it through google is a nightmare.

Does the game ever give you an incentive/reason to go back to a past island at any point?

Yes

Just to be clear, by past I mean time travel, not "found all its present day fragments".

For what reason?

whats the lewdest job for Maribel

I can give you one example.
People of another island needs the help of the old woman in the volcano island with making a potion.

Ah, okay.

Thanks.

stone = earth
earth = element
There you go ;^)

If you do that, virtually every enemy will attack before your party does.

Dancer

Not him but they seem to be doing that anyway the cheeky fucks.

Use a boomerang and cast bang as often as possible.

>Fight Cardinal Sin
>Fire attack to party doing 35 damage
>Ball attack to MC doing 80+ damage killing him
W-what the fuck was that?

So with more and more people reaching the Abby island.
What did you pick for each party member?
Hero = Warrior
Maribel = Priest
Ruff = Shepherd

I went Hero = Warrior, Maribel = Mage and Ruff = Priest

I'm doing this for the first set of advanced classes
>Hero -> Armamentalist
>Maribel -> Sage
-> Ruff -> Monster Masher
Is that good enough? The one I'm not so keen of is the Hero's class.

This but Ruff is a monk. Getting Priest out of the way so I can get Maribel into that sexy China outfit.

Hero = Warrior
Maribel = Priest
Ruff = Thief

Does this game have the two different keys for certain doors in this game like the others?

Just wondering because its been in most of the games I've played, yet haven't really seen any locked doors yet.

There are locked chests. I don't know if I can unlock those eventually.

The monster animations are REALLY good in this game.

What job gives you bang? Mage?

How many "lvls/stages" are there in each class?

You mean those stars? 8 I think.

Maribel should have it already.

You should try to get the hero class for the hero, so Gladiator + Paladin then Champion. The other characters are fine though.

I noticed that. What's up with that? I can't believe they went through that effort for a remake. Did they take them from DQM or something?

I know. It's for the others.

The last DQM game I played wasnt that well animated.
If anything they used these animations for DQMJ3

Is there a stronger boomerang than the Edged one later on?

>Teen idol is a class
Do you get a lewd costume to Maribel?

What class gets Kabuff?

sage

Anyone got a list of monsters who want to go to The Haven? Having trouble finding the robot city one.

Monster Masher

Yeah, I can't find the one in Estard

2nd floor of the inn my dude

That volcano boss looks like he doesnt belong into this at all

>Robot city

iirc he's in the inn, facing a window

Ah, I didn't check there. Thanks, user.

These vile viles in the desert place can suck my dick.

I'll take a gander when I'm done punching these slimes into the distance

The game is a solid 9 for me so far. Best JRPG I've played in years.

I really need some help, i just beat alltrade abby changed vocations then when to the abby present got the slab there, then went to the french accent island and got the flying carpet stuff but what do i do now? i haven't got enough slabs to open a new island and have no idea how to access the sunken city.

Did you have to do present day abbey shit? The bandits I mean. I'm at the same place.

>finally done with Dharma T--Alltrades Abbey after 70 or so herbs
>get the Abbey fragment
>on my way back to the present I remember there was another
>all the way back in bumfuckistan
>can't cast Zoom to said place
>gotta go through those hellish dungeons again
>then get the piece
>then go through the dungeons YET AGAIN
Why Horii
Why won't you just let me cast Zoom

Yeah that's actually really lame, they should have separate zoom lists for the past and present. It makes it really annoying to get something from the past.

did they remove the mariner class or something? I thought they were suppose to add more classes not remove them

I am still wondering when i even get to see the monsters iv recruited, when do they show up at haven? whats the trigger for this event.

What are you starting shit for no reason or something? Look at the vocation list again.

>the flying carpet stuff
What?
I'm at the Island after that but i have never heard about an flying carpet stuff?

warrior, priest, thief, martial artist, mage, shepard, and jester all it lists.

>MUST ADMINISTER HOT SOUP...
>HOT SOUP WILL ENSURE REVIVAL...

I love how every monster has a sleeping animation and a crit-death animation.
>kill with crit
>monster goes flying the fuck back

>On a thread about Dragon Quest
>Ask a question about Dragon Quest
>"WOW WHY DON'T YOU JUST GOOGLE"

not him but... what?

How cracked is the vita now? I would buy builders, but it would be a huge incentive to buy a vita if it could play anything

It's called Sailor now.

Get glasses or something you dyslexic retard

you're forgetting dancer, troubadour and sailor
some of the job titles are renamed

And that moment is only the first time in the game I was really devastated.

It gets 'worse'.

Oh i havent beaten the bandits they killed me because of sleeping shenanigans and i guess im a bit low leveled.

The island at the lower right corner of the world.

I think you're supposed to come back there later after you find the submerged city.

Yeah, would be a shame if you actually went through all that instead of just walking into the town on the world map.

I can't be the only one that thought that this story was all kinds of fucked up. Why the fuck couldn't they give Autonymus a proper burial?

So you fuckers are making the Hero a Sailor right, just like his father?

dragonquest7.nintendo.com/discover/#vocations
I'm talking about the website.

On the little french accent island theres a quest were long story short maid hides real flying carpet from fathers son because dieing wish blah blah blah go get me mermaids something from sunken city and i show you were i hide it blah blah blah.

Piracy is 100% a thing but some games aren't compatible with the current dumpers. There's spoofing but no cfw or anything like that yet

It's pretty impressive how you can actually reconstruct a village's "storyline" just by observing the graphical details it's got.

The nearest island to the starting island is the first island with Maeve, right? Went to the tallest building and can't find the monster NPC to recruit.

Apparently they're not all listed for whatever reason.

If you look at Pirate it states you need the combo of Thief and Sailor to unlock.

>you can actually reconstruct a village's "storyline" just by observing the graphical details it's got.

What do you mean?

what?

yes, go to the island where maeve was and she'll be in the tall building in the center of the town.

Protagonists dad is such a cool guy

Ballymolly? You're in the present right? The person in question is a woman and deceptively isn't actually at the top of the building but on the way up instead.

I think you are mixing it up with Yuusha Yoshihiko.

Well fug. Thanks user.

How does recruiting monsters work? iv gotten a few monster recruits now but they just arent showing up in haven.

How many stars do you have on your screen when you master a job? 10?

L 100 is max for a vocation? Still haven't unlocked it

Why is Maribel so angry all the time?

Because red hair

Pent up sexual frustration

8 and the stars turn gold

Recruitable monster for the Haven are only in the present right? I'd hate to go back to the past and find these fuckers.

When the people in the castle said "don't go to the cabin in west", I thought that Autonymous had achieved his dream of eternal life and had become unstable, so it was for the safety of others that nobody go there.

On a related note, this game reminds me why I liked Dragon Quest so much. Everything is experienced from the perspective of the player, there's rarely any "Elsewhere..." moments.
The second I checked the bookshelf in his cabin when I first went there in the past, I immediately pieced together what happened, and I felt super clever (although it was pretty obvious).

yeah, present only

I'm planning on buying a 3DS and then unlocking it because poorfag. Is it worth the risk? What are the disadvantages of unlocking instead of buying legit cartridges? Can I still play online?

reminder that the slime tablet is the best way to grind classes while you're under level 20
you also get a bunch of slime hearts which you can sell for 200 a piece

>What are the disadvantages of unlocking instead of buying legit cartridges? Can I still play online?
No more DQ games.

Uh axel told me the village was home to the ancestors of some acient heroes.
Where the fuck is this? It doesn't match greenthumb at all...

Oh wait fuck its that village with the nomads isn't it?

iv been to present haven and there not there.

Before they even tell you who Pike even is. You can go to the building to the left and see that a man's wife was peeked on in the bath, you can see the bathtub on the back of the house and the window. If you go to the two-floor house, you can see that Pike hasn't paid his rent and when you go outside you can see an messy annex where Pike is asleep.

On present day Ballymolloy, you can see all over the same kind of flowers you see in Estard (because of the seeds you gave to Maeve). Another nice little detail is that the mayor's house matches pretty closely how some Gaelic castles looked inside and the townspeople incidentally talk with a Irish Gaelic accent.

Maybe not reconstruct, but they complement the dialogues with attention to these kind of details.

actually no, you won't be able to do that until after you deal with the alltrades in the past

Have fun

Disadvantages of unlocking

None whatsoever with ALH i'm on the latest version downloading tablets

Right, Thanks!

how do you get the slime tablet?

Oh i already know about alltrades i played hte original until i got to prince zeppel as he was called who was trying to cast the ultimate magic spell.

Fuck you pink armor

>set Maribel to Monk
>start running on the world map
>mfw
This is a good level of perversion

unlock the haven in the present, recruit the bard guy at the pier in pilchard bay, then talk to him at the haven and he'll give you the tablet

What are monster hearts for anyway?

Monster classes

put it in a character's inventory then talk to the guy who changes your vocations and you'll be able to turn into that monster

Is there a different guy for each monster?
I just got a Chimera heart.

The temptation to have an entire party of slimes is overwhelming

How many of these do you need? I've got like 20 slime hearts of them just by going through the Slime forest.

Which class learn Muster Strength again? Dancer?

Just go to abbot jack of alltrades with it in your inventory and you can be a chimera

Warrior gets Focus Strength which I think is pretty much the same, isn't it?

Is there any class that is not worth using at all or on certain characters?

I'm close to the job place now, I think, and I'm aiming to make my Hero character a Paladin type, like a warrior with some healing spells.

Is this possible?

Slime hearts are for selling?

One

Holy shit, I never noticed that!

>maeve
>village of people turned to stone completely fone in the future
>that village being slaughtered by the robots, findind that soldier holding his dead friend begging him to wake up
Fuck I thought V was bad but this is much worse, this is some real heart ache shit. I always see people say V is sad, and it is, but VII has some serious shit.

well you need one if you want to become a slime but any extras you have can be sold, and considering how common they drop and how much they sell for it's a good way to make money

i talked to him, he just says something about a veggie guy no slime tablet.

???

The only real sad part in V is your father's death.

>little girl trying to pickup a sword to avenge her baby brother

You already have the slime tablet then

>that scene where she beats up on Ellie while the cheerful town music is playing

Shit, that fucking destroyed me.

you should have the tablet then, take it downstairs in the haven and you can use it there

>that guy who desperately tries to get back into his house
>after you see his flashback he crumbles into dust

I do, im an idiot they dont make this intuitive. Seriously tho when do i unlock the ability to see the monsters i recruit?

But him crumbling to dust saved his son.

He was desperate to get into his house to protect felix

>everyone using monster allies only in the arena because they can't trust other humans

It really is a big joke by the monsters.

muh

I was not expecting him to crumble to dust

I was not expecting the Angel Tears to not work

I was not expecting the village to be wiped off the face of the Earth in the future

I was not expecting a man in the Dixie island that was turned to stone a few hours later to tell me that an old man and a child warned them about the danger of the grey rain but they didn't take them seriously

MARIBELS
CUTE
ASS

Just got to Autonymous' house in the present.

Holy shit, I wasn't ready for these feels.

You can see Kiefer and the dancer's grave on the cape in the present.

In the convent, you can see Lavender and Carraway's grave close together which implies they do end up together eventually. And the mayor of the town is obsessed with maids, which implies he's a descendant of Dill and Cayenne.

Im at stone statue city, alltrades abbey when?

MUST ADMINISTER HOT SOUP...
HOT SOUP WILL ENSURE REVIVAL...

Pretty far, if I recall correctly.

>tfw you will never have a robowaifu as dedicated as E.L.L.I.E

What vocations should I go with?
About to unlock Alltrades Abbey and have never played this game before... recommendations?

I intend to. But I'm still at robot island.

ive seen this threads daily and i still dont know if i should buy the damn game

>mfw a whole town in the present recognize me as their hero
I have no idea why that feeling felt so satisfying

I'm maybe 5-10 hours in. Just finished the 2nd island (the volcano one).

The game is quite good, I rate it 8/10 so far. Loving the story and gameplay so far.

There's a couple annoying things like blurry font and clunky menus. After I equip something and press B, it should really just leave the menu. Instead it scrolls through all of them until it gets back to weapons before you can back out. What the fuck?

Also there's way too few unique models, especially for town citizens.

>I think the original Japanese went with "Gabo" because the japanese onomatopoeia for generic growl is "Garu".
not exactly
Gabo was from ''Gabu'' which they kept since it sounded good enough

I'll just change Ruff's name back to Gabo as soon as I get to Alltrades/Dharma

Not with that attitude
You gotta make your own, dude

Equipping from the equip menu is generally a terrible idea. Items is much better for it.

what's the point of this yellow teleportal just warping me to and from the desert oasis

>yfw Jessica is only about half a year older than Maribel.

>Puff-Puff

Jessica has won the battle of the bulges

press Y if you want to completely back out of the menu

>Also there's way too few unique models, especially for town citizens.

That's always been a thing in Dragon Quest games. Im sure in this day and age they could make everyone look unique, but I guess the Japanese just like it how it was on the Famicon/Super Famicon days.

>my nu-Cred Forums can't be this young

Is sixteen years ago that far ago? I suppose since I double that age now.

user, people could have been two years old when it originally released and be old enough to post here. It's a sad truth but a truth no less.

At least the good writing makes the NPCs unique enough.

Is there a level cap for the slime forest fragment? A point where I can't grind vocations there anymore?

.cia where?

Fuck off

It's been out at the usual places for almost a week, friend.

Look it up yourself

You mean the one in the bank in the run down town? You can access that from the world map once you've rescued the temple, bro.

Apparently it's level 20. I've been able to master three classes per character with only one character leveling up.

Mage or Warrior would be good for Hero since he doesn't have any offensive skills.

Mage would also be good for Maribel to flesh out her offensive spells. Priest is a nice choice to get her Buff and Midheal among other nice spells though you'll want her to master both ultimately.

For Ruff I went Priest since he's pretty speedy. Some people have made him a Shepard or thief which seem like good choices

anyone know where this tablet fragment in a hidden passage in the temple palace is?
the radar isn't reacting past or present

You mean the temple in the dessert?

yeah, after you clear that segment/remove the rubies

Sent it to your email faggot! Gitgud kid find it yourself xD!!!

Can we get a DQ /vg/ general? I'm assuming the threads will be alive for a long time considering VIII is coming soon as well.

Is Thin Air still good in here? I remember obliterating enemies by spamming it in DQ9. Also what vocation has it?

Lore question. Is it ever stated how much time it is between the present and past? I was assuming it was different for every island but I'm curious.

im cant believe im saying this but man does this game get better after 20 hours. Classes + Slime forest really make a difference.

I think one NPC on a certain island says the stuff in the past happened hundreds of years ago. I'd assume it's a similar amount of time for each island but like you said, a bit different.

At the killer robot island, the king is King Faraday

In the present, the reigning king is King Faraday VII

So it's about 7~ generations. Not an exact number, but it helps give you an idea of the time frame

The King of present day Faraday is the 7th. In general, generations are 20-25 years apart, so you're looking at 150~ish years.

>splitting up the DQ community to /vg/ than /vr/

/vg/ infests of waifufags and DQV babbys, no thanks.

Not only that, this thread is a copy/paste of a failed /vg/ thread from the other day. /vg/ just doesn't care. Granted if X had come over, you'd still not want to discuss them there, as X would have created a circlejerk.

Yeah, /vr/'s gonna be super pumped if we trot on over there and start talking about 3DS remakes of games

Go see the large pot in the village present.
Or the shed in the village past.

Thief does

got both of those, the game tells me there's another yet.

Oh yeah I had forgotten that, Assuming each king served until they retired/died I guess that roughly means 700 years if we were to say every island disappeared around the same time. Kinda weird that entire islands disappeared in only 700 years, game logic I guess.
150 years sounds way too recent, logically that makes sense but I can't see it being that soon.

you can get an actual paladin job by maxing out warrior and priest

basic jobs' abilities and spells can be used as any other job once unlocked, but intermediate and expert jobs' abilities can only be used as that job

How good is the hero class? I like the skills of the armamentalist and monster masher but I can't use them if I change class.

When is it coming to PC?

Which animals are the women in costume?

Nigger you don't even go to /vr/.

huh, must been one i got before that then.
Don't remember, sorry.

The radar is telling me it's here in the past temple now that i got the queens necklace back

Horse, then the first Cow, then the Dog

It's the ultimate class, supposedly.

I see /vr/ discuss their ideas and thoughts on XI occasionally, I think as long as you keep it DQ you'll be fine. Also remakes of retro games, which you can technically debate DQVII as being there, are allowed.

>if X come over

I would be playing pacheesi all day every day.

>go to /vr/
>they're talking about the 3DS remake

What did he mean by this?

>you straight up get the items from the cards in the matching game
A 100 gold upgrade to full plate armor plus some extra goodies isn't bad at all. Only thing that sucks is I can't get more tokens this way

you do after you finish the time loop island

reminder that Troubadour gets Soothing Song, 20~30 HP for all, 0MP
reminder that Monster Masher gets Kasap, Kabuff, and I think even more powerful breath attacks (compared to other versions of the game) that hit all (max rank breath hits for like 160, 0MP)
reminder that Shepard gets Counting Sheep, a sleep spell that hits all enemies for 0 MP

Would get them all if I get stuck again like in the bandit fight.

Sailor's lightning ability is an all enemy attack that hits for 35-40HP. Pretty decent too.

>talking to Maribel after you lead Carraway to Lavender's grave

Question about vocations from someone that hasn't reached it yet. Lets say I make MC into a Mage. Does that mean every time I level up, I get more wisdom than strength, or are stats set per character no matter what vocation they are?

Reminder that Focus Strength's effect only works on normal attacks. So don't use any offensive abilities afterwards.

Do characters keep skills theyve learned when they switch to another job? Can I level up to get Soothing Song, for instance, then switch to Warrior and keep it?

Sorry if dumb question, first DQ game.

Focus Strength + Normal Attack = 111 damage from Ruff

So good.

Set to character, I think.

bullshit. my flame slash gets double damage.

stats upon lvlup depend on the character

vocations only give percent bonus or reductions to stats
so obviously someone with high base mp would benefit more from Mage's +10% MP, but only while being that class

here are the Mage stats, as an example
Strength -40 Percent
Agility -5 Percent
Guard -40 Percent
Intelligence +20 Percent
Appearance +10 Percent
Max HP -40 Percent
Max MP +10 Percent

That's odd. Ruff's wolf attack didn't.

All skills and magic from the base jobs are kept and you can use them in any other job. You gain access to advanced classes by mastering combinations of jobs (Warrior + Priest = Paladin for example) and the skills you learn there can only be used in that job.

your stats will only change while you're using that vocation. your base stats will always remain the same, so even if you level up 10 times as a mage your base mp won't be any higher than normal once you change jobs again

they only keep skills and spells from basic classes (classes everyone can use initially at the abbey)
so yes to Troubador and Shepard skills, but not the monster masher ones

>Maribel digging graves with her bare hands

Fucking hardcore.

Thanks for spoiler-tagging your post pal.

Cause it's Ruff who Focus, not the wolfs.

>talking to Maribel after Dill runs off

>But professor, wasn't that child originally a boy?

While Ruff's dog is just walking that potato around

Didn't Ruff not ride on a wolf in the original game? It ends up being kinda funny looking when he's supposed to be sleeping in a cutscene and he's still glued to the wolf's back

Treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen.

dick ass butt dick balls cock shit fuck ass dick dick

Where can I get more magic water?

Nobody is selling it.

Ruff we know you just learned how to talk, but you shouldn't repeat everything you hear.

The bandit fight took me by surprise. Thankfully, you don't have to reset and you're fully healed when the battle ends. This game has some fun, challenging boss battles.

You don't, unless you're willing to grind out the Casino. Don't use your Magic Water without a good fucking reason.

>mp restoratives in a DQ game being readily accessible
ahahaha

>Marty

>tfw had to use one so I could use more Hatchet Man's on the metal slime boss in one of the random generated dungeons

...

It's interesting how these little things help DQ stay balanced throughout the game and not making you a god from mid-game on. SMT take note.

Are there any guides or walkthroughs that have item lists for areas yet? Like I'm sure I'm missing a couple chests in the volcano but have nothing to check against

there's still way too many powerful abilities that don't require MP
Shepherd's Counting Sheep, Monster Masher's Inferno etc

Nothing is missable and there aren't unique items in dungeons (so far). Just play without a walkthrough.

Doesn't the Thief have a thing that lets you know how many chests there are in the area you're in?

It makes you treat magic as a valuable resource instead of just an "alternate" attacking method.
Whenever I enter a new dungeon, I make sure to ration out my MP usage.
>single-target offensive spells aren't worth it for anything but bosses
>use field-wide damaging spells when there's more more than four enemies and three or more groups
>trying to not overheal with spells
>etc.
It's a fun extra layer of challenge.

I'm more in the camp of needing free gear upgrades/stat seeds, I'm trying to avoid grinding so I'm getting fucked up pretty regularly

I read that the NA version of DQVIII (and VII?) don't have the orchestral soundtrack. Is that true?

tfw Keifer fucking dies

holy shit, was not expecting

What?

Yeah, default name wasn't to my liking.

Yeah, composer doesn't want his music being on the international releases. Not sure how much of the other things said about him are true though, but apparently he's a xenophobe.

Fuck I'm getting really bored of grinding vocations but if I continue with the story I'll get to level 20 and will have to find another way to level up these classes.

I just got to alltrades abbey.

Is there a guide on changing vocation?

I dont want to fuck up my characters and I know nothing about vocations.

Whats the best for each characters? I dont want to fuck everything up.

Thanks, going to go ahead and save my money.

You can just use a PS1 DQ7 walkthrough since the item placement seems the same for the most part.

it makes sense for DQVIII if you think that they're doing about 5 different voiceovers and they're doing that to save space

DQVII has no real excuse

Buy it to support the franchise and then download the modified CIA.

When do I get the semen demon and the grandpa in my party?

This is a shitty reason not to buy it. The soundtrack sounds great, even if it isn't fully orchestrated

after like 15 fucking islands, the game actually opens up and gives me a choice between three islands to go to

>Finally finish the robot continent

Thank fuck!

>There's more robot stuff to do in the present

fucking kill me, I want to move on

>not buying and supporting the game because of audio changes
The replacement sounds just as nice, not like the 3DS is known for it's stellar audio anyway.

Don't really care, it's a non-issue for me. Bought it, playing it, enjoying the fuck out of it. Will do the same with VIII and all other DQ releases.

Does anyone know how well this sold yet?

>tfw I used all my mp on the dictator
>super automaton wrecks my shit after

It's been out for like 3 days, dude. Give it time.

It hasn't even been a week yet and we won't until NPD next month.

Maribel is the type of girl where if you don't put up with her shit and call her out it'll only increase her lust for Hero dick.

Is this one of the games where wisdom increases spell damage?

Sold well enough that Amazon was sold out and is now on back order.

>hating cheerio pip-pip bonglander robot island

Also these fucking accents holy shit
>that animal town where everybody speaks in a spanish accent so thick you can practically see their sombreros

>No guides to show what classes learn what

What did you name the Hero?

Auster because I'm always compelled to use the "canon" name whenever possible.

I've been using this one:

>tfw enjoying the game
>decide to look up the orchestrated music just to see what I was missing out on
>suddenly, remorse
WHY!?

Well I feel stupid now.
Still, not being able to use Zoom in the past blows.

game just locked me in the past with no way to return unless I complete the next objective, and Mervyn just got max rank in his vocation

Why are DQ main character designs so shit? Kiefer looks absolutely terrible, and looking at DQ8, why do I have to play with a fatso with a spike helmet, and the female MC looks like a shitty bratty lesbian with her hair style like that?

...

>can't unequip weapons in case of confusion

what, you want me to keep a cypress stick in everyone's personal inventory?

Anyone else notice that the framerate is more stable when you have the 3D on?
Do you think they'll fix this in a patch?

I feel so weird playing the 3DS version. I honestly found the PSX look much more charming. Yeah it's 16-bit kinda but felt everything just felt perfect. And I honestly never really found the slow pacing bad. Hell it was the exact opposite of what we kept getting which actually made me enjoy it much more. While I do love the 3D look and quicker pace I do hate how much people keep bashing the PSX version. It's slow and looks dated as fuck on a game released in 2000/2001 but everything felt right playing it.

Maribel would be cuter without the headscarf, just plain long hair. Though I'm liking a lot of her class outfits, just need to power through Alltrades Abbey and then I can finally access them.

You can't fuck anything up except getting too high leveled and having to move on to another area to grind.

If I switch to the cia with the orchestrated music will my my save file work?

I heard the area where you get your abilities sealed is bullshit hard, but if you grind too much you lose out on being able to grind classes? I just hit Alltrades Abbey, MC is level 15, is that good enough?

Yes but you need to back it up first.

yeah, I switched from the cartridge to the .cia and my save remained the same.

youtube.com/watch?v=LtH7l-dhHZQ

>Ruff.avi

DONT. IT WILL NOT WORK. Going from the clean cia to the orchestra cia will NOT work.

>Gabu
ガボ is "Gabo" though
"Gabu" would be ガブ

Anyone? I wish they'd keep that shit consistent. Another question, what are the point ranges for each type of stat seed? And I don't want to spend any on keifer right?

you should be fine so long as you have enough medical herbs and decent equipment. once you get vocations you can grind them at the slime forest tablet until you hit level 20

bitch nigga just go wiki it it's literally all there.

Use seeds after you've decide the route you want to go with classes. Beef up their prominent stats.

Yes using them on Kiefer would be a waste.

>the party's reaction to all this is essentially "oh well on to the next one"

I get what is saying but jeez

The only problem you could face is going from one region to the next, ie playing the US version then switched to the EUR version. Even then I'm guessing it would work, you'd just need a homebrew app to inject the save instead of using the default system backup/restore.

I played the default US version for a few hours, then deleted it but chose to keep the save, and installed the patched version. The system even automatically restored my save, which was nifty.

Is 3DS piracy still easy to do? Having the orchestrated music is probably one of the only reason I would want to do it.
Would it fuck with anything like my play times or access to the eshop (I still want to have the option to buy games even if I can just pirate them)?
My version is 11.1.0-34U.

>My version is 11.1.0-34U.

Unfortunately, you're fucked there. 11.0 and higher is completely unhackable without a second, already hacked 3DS.

>11.1
I hope you're good with a soldering iron

>My version is 11.1.0-34U
It's not easy. You'd need to hard mod your 3DS.

There is a last stand hack out there that the dev will release once all other hacks stop working. I guess you could wait on that maybe a year from now.

Visit the dig site in the present. Near the area where the wandering guys were I believe.

Why did you wait user

...

Jacqueline is so cute

>if you grind too much you lose out on being able to grind classes
What, why? Haven't got vocations yet so not sure how it works.

Vocations rank up and the way you rank them up is by fighting strong foes so weak ones normally won't do you any good.

People who think everything can be simulated with a computer need to read up a bit on computability. Computers aren't close to being able to solve nondeterministic problems.

Eh, it's alright. I'm not really in a rush to do it. I already bought the game, but I REALLY wanted the orchestrated music instead of MIDI.
If anything, I'll ABSOLUTELY jump on it once the 3DS isn't being supported by Nintendo anymore. It was convenient when Nintendo stopped updating the Wii because I didn't have to worry about fixing it every time.

Only just got to the first island. How bad are the later accents? Any really annoying ones or is it tone down.

Don't monsters give a set exp, so it doesn't matter how much you grinded?

Sorry didn't mean to replay

Pretty much the same? There's a town that says "reight" instead of right (not sure what accent), an obvious french, and obvious german town as well.

Nowhere near as bad as DQIV.

Was the orchestrated music really so bad that they didn't put it in this version or was it because of money reasons?

The next islands are basically German and Italian accents

Well they rank up by number of battles won rather than EXP.

see

Sugiyama didn't want orchestrated music on the localized version.

Does that mean I can just grind Slimetree Forest?

Then why does it matter if I grinded a lot before vocations wtf? I'm still fucking lost, but w/e we'll see when I get there.

until level 20 or so yeah.

The worst one is the Italian island. Since then, the accents have toned down dramatically for me. Aside from everyone calling you a 'Gujo', the wanderer chapter was pretty much dialect free.

Question is more about how bad they are.
I don't think anything can ever get as bad as that.
DQ4 NES is one of my favorite NES game but I can never touch the DS version because of how badly the localization is on that.

Because if you grind a lot of levels before getting vocations then you won't be able to rank them up since the enemies around the point of the story won't count toward your progress

Orchestral

>Not the hero watching another family grow up and eventually get torn apart while he's trapped in stone and missing out on his own kids.

M8, all I seem to be able to find are people arguing on gamefaqs about wisdom. I know in the original game wisdom didn't affect jack, but a bunch of people are claiming in the remake it affects spell dama, ala DQ 8/9.

The kids ADORE his father, so everything turned out alright. The father won't come back ever and on top of that he had to be a slave for seven years.

I'm going to do it. I'm going to stop grinding vocations and continue actually playing the game.

yeah i find the area boring so I just continued playing. DQ7's long enough as is.

I only grinded two before getting bored and moving on. I also don't want to rid the game of any challenge.

...

That reminds me, unless I missed something, why doesn't he show interest in going to the island with the others?

But the kid and old man go to other towns to warn them and save them from being turned to stone.

Then the people in those towns get turned to stone anyway.

They just changed the name. There's more classes in this version

They've also increased the experience you earn and lowered the level caps in this version, so it's easier to hit the caps now.

Well time to see how much better Clock+L2 makes the game run
