Well, when you consider that the universe is destroyed at the end of Innocent Sin and remade for Eternal Punishment with the condition that everyone from Innocent Sin can't be allowed to remember they were friends or else the universe undoes itself again.

The title Innocent Sin is based on the fact that Tatsuya, the main character of IS, refuses to give up his memories at the end of the game.

Eternal Punishment is Tatsuya essentially living being the only person that knows what's going on and not being able to say what's going on because it'll undo the universe. He can't be friends with anyone he cares about and essentially watches them build new lives in the next universe without him.

So EP kind of ends happy for everyone except Tatsuya.

Don't forget at the end IS Tatsuya has to go back to the IS world which is basically just an endless void of nothingness now.

Well, I guess he can get new friends at least. What happens to in after the end?

Philemon and Nyarlathotep make a bet regarding humanity. Philemon thinks humanity can grow and become better, essentially banking on the good in everyone. Nyarlathotep bets on humanity being a selfish mass of evil that will always do terrible things.

In the original bet they were supposed to be hands off and not directly interfere with humanity, by Nyarly found a loop hole through creating rumors and using that to power chaos.

By the end of IS a rumor is started that if Maya dies the universe ends. Maya gets killed, everyone believed the rumor, and the universe ends.

Philemon calls shenanigans, the reset the universe for the bet, and Eternal Punishment happens. Also like said, Tatsuya has to go back to the destroyed universe at the end of Eternal Punishment.

So, no, he'll never get new friends and he's doomed to exist eternally knowing he's a massive fuck up but at least Maya is alive and living happily in the new universe.
