What are the absolute best MS-DOS games? I was born in 1993, so I missed out on that era of gaming, and I'm currently using a toaster, so this seems like a good time to get into it. I've played Leisure Suit Larry, Daggerfall, and Day of the Tentacle so far, and enjoyed them immensely, so RPG and adventure/puzzle games recommendations would be best, although I'm open to shooters and platformers. Thanks in advance, faggots.

PORN THREAD

no, MS-DOS thread

looks like it's time for you to start playing some doom

alternatively, when i had to use a toaster laptop inbetween pcs, i had tons of fun with commandos, vollgarr the viking and ace of spades

The "Crusader" games (isometric action game, lots of different actions. Nice gfx)
Stonekeep (real time roguelike but without the random generated stuff. Lots of secrets, nice voice acting, very mysterious)

You only get 2 because I'm not your personal army, faggot.

That skeleton looks like he could use a guitar

pew pew games.

Adventure/RPGs, Point and clicks.
legendsworld.net/adventure/news

Most of the older games are uploaded to 4shared, So you would need jdownloader and a free 4shared accout for those, newer uploads use mega.co.nz.

that's not even what personal army means, nigger. thanks anyway, stonekeep looks pretty cool

You can never go wrong with monkey island, they remastered it a few years back and you can switch between the older grafix and the newer ones, even comes with voice acting.

I was going to mention the the Crusader games aswell. No remorse has the better story but no regret better action.

Some of the early wing commanders are ok, privateer 1 pretty fun space sims.

Daggerfall I still think if the best in the elder scrolls series.

Big Red Racing is silly and fun especially if you can get friends together for a multiplayer game.

Master of orion 1 plays like a simple modern 4x game. It's seriously that good.

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far! I already have enough to keep me busy for quite a while, but please feel free to add to the list.

X-Wing or Tie Fighter. Great space combat sims.
Hocus Pocus is an awesome platformer.
Stonekeep, And Ultima Underworld are good First Person RPGs
Although they weren't DOS games; Might and Magic VI and VII were great open world RPGs.

>Stonekeep
>Parents going through divorce
>Stay at home mom with very little money buys us Stonekeep to get our minds off the divorce
>Ended up just being an interactive demo that she bought at the grocery store because it was cheap.
>Computer is too old even play stonekeep and run the demo
>Mom asks me and my older brother if we are enjoying the game
>Lie and tell her how much we enjoy it and its super fun even though never really playing it.
>Didn't want to hurt our mom's feelings she tried so hard.

Instant memories this thread and when stonekeep was put up for sale on gog.

I was considering buying the MM 6-pack on GOG for 10 bucks. Is it worth it? Does the money actually go to the developers? Should I just pirate them instead?

...

>no psychophobia

Just pirate them. 3DO is long dead.

I forgot to mention that I bought the 6 pack off the shelf way back when it was a fuck huge box of vidya. After playing the later games first I couldn't go back to the early entries.

Motherfucking ZZT

You should call your parents, they won't be here forever

So I should play them in order if I want to get maximum enjoyment out of the series? I'll keep that in mind.

Also, it's good to know that there's a surefire to create a Cred Forums thread with no shitposting: make it about games that the children on the board are too young to know or care about.

is /vr/ really as dead as youre making it out to be?

Maniac Masion / Monkey Island(s) / Sam and Max Hit the Road should hold you over for a while.

If you like those, also check out Grim Fandango (a bit newer)

Ultima 7

I honestly forgot that /vr/ existed.

I wouldn't worry about playing them in order to be honest. Maybe try an early game and if you like it keep going. If not jump into VI.

Jagged Alliance and Deadly Games.

That said, JA2 is better, but it's for Windows.

This post gave me a feel

I'm also open to Windows games, although I have a feeling I'll have a harder time running them in Windows 10 than emulated ones.

SILENT HUNTER MOTHERFUCKERS!

Tube 1 loaded captain!

RIP silent hunter you no game this fun deserved to become a browser game.

Another World. Emulate Amiga version or play Anniversary, cause the original DOS version is inferior.

thank you for your service

Descent I and II, Jazz Jackrabbit, One Must Fall 2097

>Jazz Jackrabbit
I only played 2 but my nigga was a fuck game playing split screen with my bro.

yfw the water level was called generic water level because it was such a fad to have water levels.

> ...my nigga was a fuck game playing split screen with my bro

also try Z since it isnt on the list i posted

I don't know.

You could always play those old text based adventures like Zork, if you're into that. Not DOS, but age of Empires are toaster friendly and fun.

>no gay sex with hats on tab

From experience 2 is a solid game with some excellent music. Don't let the art scare you off.

it came out before degeneracy exploded due to the internet

so youre safe unless you keep looking for images of the game and not sticking to videos of gameplay like you should have done in the first place

I was mostly just making a joke and bumping the thread

This bitch looks like my aunt

You know what to do.

I'm surprised this doesn't mention SRB2

SHIT I only just saw what was circled. Thank the heavens the furries didnt get this released today.

What do you mean user? I'd never do anything to hurt her. I'm a good boy :)

>a good boy
I bet you are.

Oh hell yeah. There was lots of bullshit in that game though.

post a picture of your Nancy Botwin looking aunt. does she sell weed?

Nah she's a pharmacist

I regularly jerk off into her panties when I am at her house haha

so are you going to post a pic or what?

Jagged Alliance 2

I recommend I have no mouth and I must scream. It can be a bit frustrating at points but the atmosphere is so good.

SimCity.

Seriously, it is fucking amazing, if you haven't played the original yet you owe it to yourself.

>1993
I was also born in 1993, but I had access to some older systems and played a bunch of DOS games when I was younger (thanks to commies setting back our country a good 20 years of progress).
I remember playing Hocus Pocus and Commander Keen series a lot. Tried getting into the early X-Com games, but I couldn't read/speak English worth shit, so that went nowhere. Heretic and Ultima Underworld were also pretty fun.
I used to have a massive library of DOS games, but I'm having problems recalling all the names.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms III is a very good strategy game, though it takes a while to play. If you want a faster, easier game in the same vein, Gemfire is also pretty good, though the SNES version is better than the DOS one. Don't know how they fucked that up since it was originally a PC game in Japan anyway.

I don't believe you, so post a picture for me.

>I was born in 1993
LEAVE AND DON'T COME BACK, we know you dont give a single fuck about old vidya

You worn born in 1993? I was born in a small village.

Sorry bud; I've been here for over 10 years at this point.

>One Must Fall 2097
Aw yeah. That soundtrack was great.

youtube.com/watch?v=pdVnKYcYi3g

hes 23 dude

I'm the same age and i grew up on genesis and regularly revisit the classic PC titles i missed out on growing up.

>implying i was talking about him being underaged B&

Uncouth little fuckin brats these days only care about GRAPHICS and games that are less than a year old, you people can't fool me

okay

I started browsing Cred Forums at 21, and I've been here for only five years. A 23 year old is fine.

Konami ones and Dangerous Dave.

Generic Water Level was actually the name from the beta version distributed with OEMs. It's way better.

The Incredible Machine.
youtube.com/watch?v=plb3eweivDE

The Lost Mind of Dr. Brain

Echo Quest

Kings Quest 3

I used to play an MS-DOS game that had a blue robot in it.

Can't remember the name.

Help a brother out. Pic related.

I tried playing some Zyclunt the other day, I'm mounting shit and running the thingy on the thingy and all that shit but still can't get it to work.

Typing wolf.exe from DOS is engraved in my memory.

Also I remember the prince of Persia game and commander keen working on it.

you might have to kajigger your memory size and clock speed

What kind of game was it?

an old one

where's the resolution where you dont have to plaster your face on the screen?

She needs a really good dicking

just zoom in.

Star Control 2 is the answer you are looking for. Fantastic game.

The genre is space exploration and it has rpg elements. The game is fucking sick so just try it out.

I really liked Desert Strike.

added them to the list

Star Trek 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites. Fantastic point and click adventure games that play like the fourth season of classic Trek. The CD version has the original cast voicing their roles too. You're gonna want the manual though since the star map functioned as anti piracy.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I installed Star Trek 25th Anniversary, too. I found the starmap online easily enough.

I was born in 1990

you have no excuse

you enjoyed daggerfall? i did too, but you should just kys.

I recommend all build-engine shooters, especially duke 3d

i recommend all doom engine shooters, especially heretic/hexen

i recommend all commander keen games

actually, every apogee game is pretty fucking good

you should also play space sims like wing commander 3, xwing vs tie fighter, etc

you should also play strategy tactics RPGs like jagged alliance and xcom

you should also play stuff like warlords 2

you should also play games like dungeons of moria, dungeons of the unforgiven, etc etc etc

i could go on on foreeeeverrrr

i could go on forever

We never had a DOS machine in the house. How was I supposed to play games on something we didn't own?

Its not one of your preferred genres, but original X-COM is great

As kid losing that manual was hell

98% of these dont even run on dos, kys.

there's lots of good wolfenstein 3d mods too.

by the way,

if you like crusader no remorse / no regret, play brigador. it's like a modern version of that.

also check out home of the underdogs, great website

check out abandonia

there's a lot ot sort through.

obviously MOO, MOM, CIV, Coloniziation, etc

fucking slipstream 5000
