Thought I was the only one like this. Never understood the concept of gore comedy used in a lot of "adult" animation, let alone could I ever imagine actually laughing at it.

Not a FPS, but The Last of Us has probably the best use of violence I've ever seen a game. It's astounding how many modern games go out of there way to create insanely detailed assets and animation, just so you can be pulled out of the experience with bright, generic blood sprites. I don't what kind of techniques Naughty Dog used for TLoU, but the blood arcs and ribbons believably with every hit, and there's a distinct 'showering' sound that accompanies the blood as it rains over surfaces. Shotguns blow off limbs or expose intestines, and a stunned enemy will actually beg for their lives if you hold them at gunpoint.

This is of course in addition to probably some of the most terrifying game over sequences in game history.

Tearing through enemies with chunks of meat flying through the air is just silly and doesn't faze me at all. Cutting or blowing people's limbs off might make me pause for a moment but I'm still not uncomfortable.

But I do get uncomfortable when it's slow, deliberate, and detailed. Things like torture scenes and even a few Mortal Kombat fatalities. There was a webm posted here of a fatality where a character slowly pushed his victim's face into a buzz-saw and I got stressed out and closed it. It's more the psychological aspect of that happening to someone than the actual sight of fantasy gore.
