12 years later and still the most complete single player first person shooter experience to date. Still the single greatest leap of the genre on time of release for any fps. Still an era defining game. Still no Half-Life 3.

Hl2 was the best fps since perfect dark

>Boring as fuck linear corridor shooter with a single gimmick forced into three games
>People still hail it as a masterpiece

Still? I mean games have a odd way of aging in this industry, but like movies, past productions can be appreciated for what was new back then, and much of the posturing or sequencing or so called art direction is what lets it maintain legendary status, which by all means is present in HL2; even though the latter attribute isn't always as novel to this scale of production on a game. It was one of those miracle stories of investments paying off, much like say, a Metal Gear SolidV, but is raped of a sequel or reintroduction or reboot using already successful familiar elements at the bare minimum, sometimes even art and engine.

It wasn't even the best FPS of November 2004, never mind its year, decade, or of all time.

>half life 2
>complete

Feels ruined singleplayer games.

This

The original game is better.

Well this thread is still alive, I wanted to add HL2 is by definition still attractive amongst the modern lineup because its successes have much been copied through out all these years its been out. So the question really is if the single player still holds up. This is definatley pc centered game as there is nothing less exciting then using the gravity gun on a controller. However the twitchiness of the gameplay at harder levels, or how the game should actually played, dates a lot of the challanges present through out most of the game. But due to incredible pacing and very advanced AI (which hasnt advanced till today) the game clinches what is a trademark gameplay and a wonderful sense of exploration and setting, sensitive mood changes and incredibly high attention to detail as well as impeccably fitting soundtrack

Fuck off you underage cunt

>very advanced AI (which hasnt advanced till today)
Halo 1 had better AI than the trash in Half Life 2.

its scale-able, which is what makes it even playable on consoles

>Shit DRM
>Vehicle sections
>Shit plot
>Freeman doesn't talk, so funny
The only reason that shit sold is because you had to buy it to get CS:S.
F.E.A.R. was the best shooter of that era.

FEAR is an endless barrage of dark corridora and the same fucking enemy type. The shooting aand horror is good but the world and variety is garbage.

*Timesplitters 2 and FP were the best FPS since PD

FTFY, HL2 is overrated trash. HL1, however, is worth remembering.

half-life 1 at least had enough quake dna in it to make it fun to play

its weird that people look back at hl1 as some kind of revolutionary game when you had shit like rainbow 6 and thief coming out in the same year which were more complex and actually pushed new gameplay concepts

tHE AI IS GOOD I GIVE U THAT

It was always mediocre

HL2 isn't even better than the first game.

hell, other better shooters like FEAR were releasing around the time.

This guy sounds like a complete autist stopped watching at "at all of the characters in HL2 are made up but you pretend you knew them in Black Mesa" bruh, they were inside the control room before you step in the test chamber.

>complete experience
>no half life 3
contradicted yourself

>However the twitchiness of the gameplay at harder levels, or how the game should actually played, dates a lot of the challanges present through out most of the game.

What the fuck are you even trying to say?

Half life 3 is another game user, you could've easily brought up the episodes but no, you have to meme.
