For lazy console ports, it's rarely an issue since they use identical files and file structure. Games like Eiyuu Senki are great examples of this. They were able to take the script from the censored version and add it to the uncensored version, along with just translating any of the cut content themselves.

ok, so weeb games have two audiences usually: there's the neofag sjw legitimate weeaboo types (like that go around speaking pseudo-japanese and other cringeworthy shit) who get offended at everything under the sun, and there's people like a lot of Cred Forums who are much more tolerant but get upset when they modify stuff that we might have enjoyed into a format where we might enjoy it less.

polygon appeals exclusively to the first type of loser, so if their market was largely the first type of loser (i think daganronpa would be a good example of this; that franchise pulls pretty huge numbers from the neofag crowd), they're going to lose sales. if their audience was largely the second type of loser (pretty much any sexy action game, think stuff like senran or nep or we), well, most of us think if polygon was printed it would make good toilet paper, so pissing them off would probably have the opposite effect.

the problem is a lot of weeb games pull from both groups, so devs try to strike a balance and hope they don't sufficiently piss off one group or the other. sometimes they fail. also, sometimes companies themselves get backlash if they fail hard enough, so you might get sjws up in arms about muh soggyknees or you might get us nerds up in arms about censorship.

i understand the nuances and why devs do what they do, but i'm still committed to the ideal that i think the right thing for them to do is to at least make the original content available in some form, even if it's a bit hard to get.
