Sony has such a large market lead that they don't give a shit, Microsoft on other hand has to do their best to win the audience back, so they're having people working on getting BC for the most wanted titles.

A lot of cynicism for the PC platform from anybody probably comes from misunderstanding it. With the exception of Steam, and even that has its limitations, there's never been unification on PC, and game dedicated accessibility has always been far outdone on consoles.

A lot of console loyalists on here treat "PC" as an identifiable, unified platform not unlike "PlayStation" or "Xbox" when that really isn't the case at all. This is especially difficult on the fringe of a new generation where locked platform comparisons are a hot topic.

It's easy for someone to get knee deep in a discussion of how high the ceiling is for one game on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and what those differences mean for the average person playing games, but less so on PC.

I think people also need to realize that PC gaming has always been an enthusiast market, not just for its software content but the technicalities surrounding that software. Hardware, builds, drivers, mods, editing tools, tweaks, and so on.

The PC gaming world is largely about pulling back the curtain and seeing all the gears working behind the scenes while enjoying the games. And that kind of enthusiast market is never, ever going to get the kind of press dedication and publicity that accessible, mass market platforms do.

It's no different to any other medium, or product (like cars), where a niche group of people love the technical stuff but the rest of consumers just want something that works.

The cynicism probably stems from feelings of confusion, irrelevancy, and competition. That internal desire to treat a misunderstood platform on the same ground as others, when it's very different in all key areas.
