I listen to quite a few audio books, and you're just as good as any of those readers, if not better. Outstanding work. My one suggestion is maybe add a bit more range to your performance. Your sample in the OP did the dark and doom sections very well, but a bit of lightness would have been good as well. Then again, with how short each book in game is, it probably wont matter all that much if each individual piece doesn't have a wide vocal range in it. Either way, fantastic job OP

I'mma put this out there for everyone who has said they wish they could get into voice acting, or who has any dreams of it.

Above in this thread, ctrl+f and you'll find my setup. Youtube is remarkable, and you can find tutorials endlessly there. I'll be honest, here's how I practice the actual speaking.

When you're taking a shit, just make up quiet monologues to yourself. Practice inflections in the car. Read game text aloud when you're alone, and practice in the dark. If you have that practice, and listen to other voice actors on YouTube (Look up Voice Sessions, they're amazing!) all it takes is gear. And there are a thousand others just like me with deep voices, it's the people with different voices that have the leg up on me.

My trick is to find standup comedians or public speakers with the accent I'm trying to emulate. It works out realy well since it's just hours of people talking in a specific way, and you can really get a grip on the subtle nuiances!

Funny you should mention, anytime I'm in a different city, I pretend to be a brit when I'm bar hopping. It makes it criminally easy to just walk up to people and strike up a conversation. It's also INCREDIBLE practice, because people can and will point out if it suonds fake!

You have fantastic timbre to your voice, but there are some pacing issues. Longer pauses in appropriate places would be better.

Also a fair bit of over-acting. Some of the heavier lines are comical instead of ominous. I understand the pieces are meant to have an ominous, intense atmosphere to them, but it all seems over-done.

Honestly, you have a great voice, but some professional acting advice might be best for you. Getting feedback from us is flattering, but we're not really qualified to genuinely critique you. There's a significant talent here, so please do carry on.

I work with reading for the blind and dyslexic, although they've changed their name a few times. OP's work is useful to the disabled community, specifically for people who have enough functionality to play, but can't deal with walls of text.

Longer pauses on the books would do wonders if the point is to tell a story. It's obviously different if the character would be hurrying through a book as fast as possible.

How heavy the acting can be would depend on the setting of the game as well. Over-acting being definitely better than the disinterested basic voices of Skyrim for example.

Something about the cadence of your reading is off. It sounds very flat and pauses at really odd times, making it hard to follow.

Your voice is great (as you know) but if you're wanting to build a portfolio, get a better grasp of the material you're reading before recording and add more inflection and variance to the lines.
