It didn't take itself too seriously as far as the story, unlike RE6. The atmosphere is top drawer. Weapons are varied and differences between them are substantial. Gameplay, imo, is a perfect mix of classic RE and action.

what are you talking about? Riot gun outclasses starting shotgun slightly and fills a different purpose than striker. Riot gun shoots from head level, has a tighter spread and farther range than striker making it good for headshots. Striker is good for stunning close and wide crowds and for the convenience

I beat this game around 8 times on my PS2 when it was out, i fucking loved this game to no end, beat it thrice on Professional mode, one of them using mostly knife and grenades (and the RPG for the napoleon-like guy and the last boss).

Set the original lineart's layer's blend mode to 'multiply' and color with 'normal' layers below it. Use "image > adjustments > brightness/contrast" to adjust the lineart as you see fit, or you can just duplicate the lineart layer so it looks darker (since plague drew with pressure opacity on his brush, the lines vary and are mostly greys). I did the text by selecting it out of the lineart, changing the layer's mode to 'normal', magic wand-ing the white BG away, then applying a white stroke in "layer > layer style > stroke". Just look up tutorials. Or mess around with stuff until you learn like I did.

It's fun doing it that way too, but if it's your first time you may want to grab another weapon as well, just in case.

It's not about damage, it's about style. Red 9 feels good to shoot, looks cool, and has the best reload animation of all the pistols.

The blacktail is just another generic tacticool pistol without any surprises other than "great handling".

Up until the castle the game was really good. The castle was just aggravating with the amount of enemies going "MUERE MUERE MUERE" and it wasn't scary at all.

I'm playing it right now on the PC port, just beat Salazar. Other than cutscenes being broken, it's good.

Holy goddamn fuck I love the combat in this game. There's a lot of actual tactics to it, I kinda like how early on, guns weren't the way you took out the Las Plagas victims, you kick 'em while they're stunned and then knife them to death.

Then I got the shotgun and everything sorto f bursted into meaty bits. And then the riot gun. Then the striker. I didn't even bother with the TMP until I got halfway into the castle.

Also, any tips for the minigun guy in the chapter immediately after that? I assume it'd just be try and move as much as possible to stay out of his way?

When you consider the fact that RE2 outsold RE4 for both games initial releases and even up until RE4 HD rerelease the quest for "sales" meant killing off the series.

Again; the game was good and people wanted more of it, then came 5. which actually has more to do with the canon of the series than 4 does. when you consider the story 4's only interaction with the canon is characters. It's not even about umbrella or the t-virus.

The point being; 4 went off on a tangent. it changed the fundamentals of the series to appeal to more people for sales

I think there are guides to .ini fixes and the like that should give you a boost to your frame rate. If you're just 5-10 FPS below a stable 60, that might just do it.

Red9 is boring. I used to use it on every playthrough until I finally had to stop. It doesn't even feel like handgun eventually and doesn't have any real utility to it. I always go back to the Striker though no matter how hard I try not to. It's just too good on every front. Riot kind of defeats the purpose of the shotgun which is mostly for CC with it's smaller spread and the regular shotgun is an awkward middle ground with a shit exclusive.
