Most unused feature on a console ever?

Most unused feature on a console ever?

Probably popular with modders though.

what's that?

weed storage bay

Nobody had a DD.

You're looking for the Kinect OP. Not as popular with modders though

...

Didn't you need this to play FF11?
Less people probably used shit like card readers on fat PS3s.

if you played ffxi as a consolefag you used it.

I actually used those

Who in their right mind would hold a console like that?

It's ok. The handle is sturdy and it would actually work. The ridiculous part is actual usefulness as in, you need a lot of other shit (AV cables, power adapter, controllers) if you want to take your Gamecube for a weekend gaming session somewhere else.
TL;DR the 'feature' works but it's useless.

the multiplayer cable connector port on virtual boy, they never made the actual cable for it or any games to support it

that rotating ps logo on ps2 and ps3

I love my HDD drive, I have all my games on in there

I've carried my old GC that way many times. Best console design, btw.

I flipped that shit every time

...

>hard disk drive drive

IT COULD ROTATE WHAT

That's cosmetics. Also useful if you got the vertical stand.

/thread

Pretty much

So what? I always enter my PIN number at the ATM machine too.

tfw it doesn't rotate on the ps2 slim

I meant to put "bay" not "drive" but you were too dumb to figure it out :(

but does your cat have wheels?

it should. unless of course there's million slightly different ps2 slims.

YOU GOT SOMETHING AGAINST DISABLED CATS, DO YA, PUNK?

>I'm so glad that my portable console has this headache-inducing 3D gimmick instead of a primary display with a reasonable resolution

~Fucking nobody ever.

...

/Thread.

Literally what was that
I thought it was just a weird aesthetic thing, are you telling me it did something?

Pokemon games used it for Mystery Gift.

Also with how much the display cost it could have been as fast as the n3ds at least and cost the same at launch.

I used this in conjunction with a game to watch TV when my parents would hide the remote.

I had this pikachu tamagotchi thing once and i could send stupid shit like berries to GSC with that thing.

Looks like your image is flipped over
here let me fix that

>sent my 3ds for repairs because it stopped turning on
>it comes back
>3D is broken

not that I ever used it but I'm kinda salty about it

mystery gift in pokemon and multiplayer minigames in looney tunes collector

>Probably popular with modders though.

Indeed. Just slap this and an HDD into it, you're essentially set for a lot of free games.

>Probably popular with modders though.
Yeah boy, got a hard drive slapped to my PS2 and now I play game off it all the time.

I used it. I had a pocket Pikachu.

...

...

d00d where do you hide your WEED then>?

Wait what?
What is that for?

install fmcb on mem card, insert old hdd with the network adapter. ??? Profit
I have absolutely done this.

Pretty sure it's for an add on that let's you play gameboy/gameboy advanced games

could be used as a hack usb one day

You're thinking of the Game Boy Player for Gamecube, the SNES used the Super Game Boy cart which didn't need any extensions. Heads up, that Super Game Boy (and especially the Super Game Boy 2) is super dope.

meh, the gameboy player for GCN paired with an action replay nd sd to memorycard is the best since theres a program to run the GBA games at 240p, like a replacement for a boot disk

I prefer SGB still since it has a lot of color options for the system & some games can make the music better with an extra soundchip which not even the Virtual Console versions of the games use.

i thought it had a small bay to put the stuff in. Unless i'm mistaken.

There are theories that there are pin outs for HDMI on that port, but no one has taken the time to disassemble a vita and map it out then develop a plug that could fit in there.

I think Sony was even going to do it themselves, and it would run similar to a PSTV when hooked up, but obviously they just released a PSTV instead.

>tfw only one who always has 3d on at max

>someone tries to break into my house
>Grab gamecube by the handle and beat then until they're unconscious with it
>plug it back in and play vidya until the police arrive

kek

>no ethernet port
>no GBA player

Satelliview.

pretty sure this was a plot for an episode of csi

The PS2 HDD had way more support in Japan.

Only because you didn't know.

kinda bummed they scrapped the emblem for the slim models

manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psvita/basic/partnames.html

SONY lists that as accessory port, so it's probably some proprietary USB variant for shit like microphone attachment (like PSP Talkman used)

it was to cut costs

Joking arnt you?

But they didn't

...

CD+G on Sega CD and Saturn
IR on PSP

It will be used once the VR gets widespread, lol.
>IR on PSP
There was some sweet homebrew simulating every TV remote ever making it pretty useful for normal or joke uses.

MIL-CD on the Dreamcast
Not sure how much use it saw in Japan, but it famously opened the DC up to piracy

Not nearly as bad as the other examples in this thread.

But it's a serious crime when 90% of games don't even use half the GPU properly.

Nintendo's documentation was shit, and they horded it too.

the bottom right port only got used for dev tools so you can't fill all the holes

i think there was literally 1 official MIL-CD ever, some space channel 5 disc

>VR
>Widespread

lol indeed

>He didn't have pocket Pikachu.

>he actually used his pocket pikachu
I had one
it sat on a shelf
I never played with it

I wish I still had my Playstation 2 and didn't stupidly sell it years ago.

At least PCSX2 is cool.

How? There are no peripherals available for it.

I never knew what the fuck that was for, so I hid memory sticks full of lewd pictures in there. When parents were away, I took the sticks out of there, plugged them into our PC and fapped away. Good times. Memory sticks were so low cap back then.

Came to post this. I wish more consoles had weed storage bays.

I thought every kid knew about this.

Did nobody read the manual? I'm quite sure it was mentioned there.

people are working on reenabling it with CFW so it can be used for USB storage

That's not what that is for. That's to both protect the wires from kiddies thinking they can just push the thing up against the wall and if it was pushed up like that the "handle" makes sure it gets enough air flow.

Which is only released in Japan

>anons hid lewd pictures on sticks
Fuck I feel old. I still have a floppy drive where I hid lewd hentai pics that I was able to download only at my mom's office from her boss' computer over 56k since we had no internet at home.

Speaking of shit that goes on the bottom of a gamecube, online I see an "Ethernet adapter" and a "LAN adapter", are these the same thing just branded differently depending on the region or actual different things?

Playing Double Dash in LAN sounds great but playing PSO on fanservers sounds great too.

Why'd you make a little red rectangle? The whole image counts.

Speaking of final fantasy online games, how is xiv on ps3? My gpu died, i only own a ps3 and i really cant play much until i get a 1080 in a few months.

Worth playing?

I still put porn on USB sticks just a few weeks ago, until I decided to just smack it all on google drive instead of having it floating in a folder in my documents directory.

I think ethernet and lan were the same thing. But there's a modem adapter too for dialup afaik.

I was probably 8 years old when I got my first PS2 and couldn't really understand English back then. I'm sure a lot of European kids had the same problem because the manual was only translated into the big 5 languages so the manual was usually the first thing to go into the trash.

How the hell would you play online on a gamecube with dialup? I can't imagine that working well at all.

It's mainly used with the camera and it'll also work with VR.

This thing. I think the only other one I saw was a Metroid Prime one.

>headache-inducing 3D gimmick
I've used it for hours on end with no issues. Helps in platformer games to determine distances for jumping. SM3DL benefited from it a lot.

That's pretty cool but
>Parents hide the remote
Why

you need to buy the game again with ps3 license if you want to play it on the ps3

What were the clips for Cred Forums?

Not that user but

>parents hid the remote so I'll go to sleep at a reasonable time
>just walk up to the tv to change channels, volume, etc

What is it?

They didn't want little Johny to turn on the TV in the middle of the night, switching to Adult Channel and waxing his carrot.

See
You can take the disc thing off the top.

This

Tried PSVR before and the light acts as a signal for positioning, so you can have a menu attached to your hands (controller) that you can move about.

Hi

Also the TV button. Who the fucks owns a TV without a reciever?

What is that even for

Where did you try it at?
How was it?

Only place I know that does it is Best Buy

Legends say it's specifically made to capture video from the gamepad, which would only be used by Nintendo for ads.
Maybe some debugger for devs? Haven't heard devs talking about it

I used that with final fantasy 11. It was terrible.

EXTERNALS ARE CHEAP AS FUCK YOU THIRD WORLD SHITTER

Private market research thing for an upcoming game.

I'd say it rivals the Vive in terms of quality, though it can't do room-scale. The headset is 100x easier to put on and get started with though, pretty essential for families/casuals who would buy it.

Looks like it's a common dev port for multiple functions, mainly video output though (almost every WiiU you see at E3 has the port being used for on-screen video, so I'm assuming it's that)

>Legends say it's specifically made to capture video from the gamepad, which would only be used by Nintendo for ads.
As if they would waste money on a port like that on every Wii U just for a feature nobody can use

I'll fill your holes haha

Kind of crazy that it was still playable on PS2 until March this year.

it's for the satelite thing that was only in japan and let you dl some games

By far the most unused feature on the PS2, PS3, and PS4 is the native support for USB and Bluetooth keyboard and mouse

It baffles me that in this age of shooting games only like 1â„… of the game library supports it
It's sad that the most you can do with it is browse the web and navigate the UI

Native Kb/m on PS3:
youtu.be/cmjCxwMsE7I

but they do. i have the 9001 model (the one that looks like the ps4) btw

Why the fuck would I buy an external drive just for porn you massive shit stain. It's much cheaper to just have it in the (((cloud))).

Who the fuck reads the manual anyway? When I got my PS2 on christmas I hooked it up and started playing games, never even opemed the manual.

it does though

It's the same with the Wii, afaik usb keyboards worked for the interner browser but no games.

I remember playing Dirge of Cerberus using KB+M, Half-Life: Decay as well. Fun times.

i wonder how many people played bomberman online on the sega saturn back then

Deus Ex and Half Life used them.

Blame game devs.
>internet outage because a faggot with a backhoe managed to cut the fiber near by or incompetent local ISP had problems
>cloud provider decided to monetize his assets (you) and gave an ultimatum to go pro (just $55 per year) or fuck of with your 180GB (you have 2 days to get your data out of there and pipe is shaped to 64kbps (that's lower 'b')
>there's porn in there like stuff with Kitty Jung that could get you to jail in some shitholes like Australia
>there's porn in there like some jap lolicon shit that could get you jailed anywhere if you got unlucky
>don't want people who already sift through your emails, knows all your purchases and web habits to also know what porn you're into
There's plenty of reasons to store your porn offline

I think you can attach a Wiimote to it so you can point at your TV without having to put the controller down.

...

>He didn't do mystery gift every day with his brother to get free items

Ths was a widely used feature even if for pokemon GSC only.

lol

It's a misconception that video games require a high speed connection in general. A reliable one is much more important.

Streaming movies and shit where you're taking/uploading a lot of data require high speeds.

>He didn't get a free selection of them with his copy of NOM back when that magazine was the best thing ever.

Motion sense

to

get this

hold your fucking wiimote
and you STILL had to change batteries on it. fucking nintendo never made a controller that isn't battery dependent since the GC era

UT used it, as well as UT3 on PS3. that version could ALSO play PC maps on console

IT COULD PLAY PC MAPS ON FUCKING CONSOLE AND GOT A MASSIVE FREE UPDATE.

but yeah, usb kb/m would ruin console players who only use controllers. they would complain and then it would get patched out of all multiplayer FPS

>implying other companies have

??

At least xbox still let you use AAs. Once your gamepad internal battery dies it's bricked.

What a waste. N3ds improved the whole not having to stare at the exact right angle and distance thing, but they couldn't solve the eye strain to make me use it ever.

no man
i wanted wired controllers for the wii and wii u
the wii pro pad was great, but the wii u never got something like that.

Dualshocks can run completely off usb power.

Ratchet and Clank used that (pretty good for flying sequences and some weapons), also Killzone and Heavenly sword.
Too bad game developers mostly ignored it.

You know what other feature I've never heard anyone say they liked? The touch screen on the entire DS line. I've never known anyone that preferred using it if there was a way to do whatever with the actual buttons instead.

>useful
What use do you get out of a logo?

Those games you listed were earlier PS3 titles made back when Sony required first party games to use it still. I don't about about Killzone or Heavenly Sword but I know R&C:ToD gave you the option to use the stick instead.

Didn't the console version allow you to restrict players based on controller?

Playing the ace squadron game with 3d on was worth it though. Most other games can fuck off with their shitty nonsensical 3d.

>Once your gamepad internal battery dies it's bricked.
You can swap it on Sony controllers. Replacement costs a few bucks on Ebay and requires only a small screwdriver.
There's a connector so no soldering necessary.
Or if you don't care about the 'wireless' part, just use normal USB cable.
Useful in a sense it didn't look lame as fuck facing sideways. Cosmetics, remember.

i think you could
its too bad UT3 sucked and no one played on PS3 long enough to see the update drop like near 2 years after it came out.

>ome games can make the music better with an extra soundchip which not even the Virtual Console versions of the games use.
Not an extra sound chip actually. Those sort of games contain code that can be run by the SNES itself, and thus access the SNES's audio. Space Invaders has a complete SNES game hiding on the GB cartridge that can only be accessed this way.

While that is easy to do I suppose. Imagine if ten years from now the battery in your Sony controller dies and no one, first party or third, makes that kind of battery any more.

What are you going to do? I would imagine if there were still some left on the aftermarket they'd be marked up to hell due to no longer being made and supplies just getting lower and lower each year, and you'd have no guarantee the replacements you spent too much on would even work or even last another decade, they could end up dying just a week after you get them.

I've never handled an Xbone controller so no idea what they use, but at least I know with my 360 controllers they're not going to stop making AAs any time soon. Hell, those controllers will probably greatly outlast the 360 itself.

try the nes expansion bay. was that EVER used for anything?

even the snes had the satillaview thing

They dont support it and cripple the settings when they do because m/kb is a massive advantage in shooters over people who dont have one.

Then again if they did people would ditch consoles in favor of micro pcs

>What are you going to do?
1. Buy any similar battery pack with same voltage and similar capacity. It's not like they use some alien tech completely unheard of in whole tablet/mobile/handheld devices industry.
Yes it's not ideal and it would scare off folks who don't know the difference between volts amperes and wats but it would work.
2. Use the alternative I already posted - USB cable. It's not like I'm dancing through the whole neighborhood while I'm playing so 3m or 5m cable is enough for all my needs.
3. buy some random chinese knockoff that's PS2 / PS3 / PS4 and PS5 compatible. When there's demand there's someone to sell you one.

>all the shills on Cred Forums in the early years talking about how awesome the 3D was
Then the threads devolved into a shitfest

That is for video recording

Holy shit I've had my gamecube since launch and I never knew about this, I thought you guys were bullshitting so I actually picked mine up and theres tabs to take it out right under the lid oh my god

Yep, I'm not even sure if nintendo made any others besides the prime one pictured here.

It works well in the Etrian Odyssey games for drawing maps.

I usually just don't mind it, though.

The only thing that port did was make NOA remove the audio input pin from the cartridge slot because "only the FDS used it".
You can call it a double dumb.

Actually have a PS2 with the online adapter, so many memories of playing Timesplitters Future Perfect online, great fucking times.

This section circled in the picture.

Wait so the limited edition Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness and Resident Evil 4 GameCubes were literally just platinum ones with different lid discs? That's hilarious.

Someone doesn't play Melee, I see.

funny memes :3c

Did anyone actually buy the horizontal stand?

I always thought they came with stickers or some shit

Remember when the ps3 was going to have 3 ethernet ports and 2 hdmi?

for what purpose

I had no idea one even existed but now I'm tempted to get one just for the look. Can't be too expensive now.

>tfw nobody remembers the vita
The backtouch pad is used in launch games and tearaway and I don't think anything else

Eh, it's alright. It worked quite well in Metroid Prime: Hunters IMO, but I'd agree that most games didn't absolutely need the touchscreen component to them.
That said, having two screens still works quite well for things like maps, menus and generally having two different pieces of information displayed at once in a way that feels quite natural.

>pull mine out
>can't find any tabs
Turns out this second revision model they sent when they replaced my original not only removed the component port but also the ability to replace the name plate.

angelfire.com/ultra/megamanworld/gcmodelcomparison.html

it's also used to clumsily emulate shoulder buttons in PS1 games

Having two HDMI ports would be cool as fuck, you could hook up two different screens so you couldn't cheat in local FPS games

You can use it to look around in EDF.

Oh, don't get me wrong. Having two screens can be nice if used well. I was talking mainly about the touch feature. If it was just a normal screen I think it'd probably have a better library because devs wouldn't be driven away by being forced to use the touch gimmick.

...

>it's a handle

did you poors not have the little lcd screen that snapped onto the gamecube?

The sixaxis weapons suck

You confused this with 'PS4 haz no gaems' meme retard.

I carry my GameCube like that when I go to Melee weeklies.

Hows EDF on vita? I've been meaning to pick it up, 2018 was pretty good, 2025 was great and I haven't played 4.1
How terrible is the framerate?

None of those are official so Nintendo did not make the GC with those in mind.

Just to add more pointing out that you probably got it.
The famicom did used the cartridge port to use the FDS disk system, so, you can't say that "the expansion port was used by the japanese system" as was the case with snes and N64, because well, nothing, NOTHING use it.

I think some hackers do use it to sideload roms or something, but nothing commercial ever got plugged to that expansion.

...

I always knew they removed component and that bottom port (never knew the cover was still there though) but had no idea they'd remove the name plate thing. Like why even bother?

almost no one did
i got a mini screen for all my 6th gen systems
shit is great

It's a flat surface with some rubber feet holding your PS2 higher over your super fluffy carpet so the ventilation doesn't suffer.
Completely useless otherwise.

That's neat. Not sure why they'd remove being able to take out the nameplate, how much cost does taking that out did that really save them?

The component cable port on the other hand makes being removed makes sense though since it was pretty compenent was pretty unused at the time and it literally only works with Nintendo's own limited gamecube component cables that have some kind of chip in them, thus making them extremely expensive nowadays.

What even were those slots supposed to be used for?

EDF2017 is on Vita, and 2 is better than that.

It's passable. HENkaku overclocking makes it better

Funfact: If you own a copy of PSO and a GameCube Broadband Adaptor, you can trick your Gamecube into loading homebrew and playing pirated games through a proxy server trick.

It's also entirely pointless on pal consoles as the games don't support the cables at all. (instead of progressive scan made some games have 60hz instead of just 50)

>overclocking a vita
Jesus man wouldn't that destroy it? Like I know PCs get worn out faster when you overclock, wouldn't that harm the vita?

Nothing official

This would be a lot more useful if you didn't also need the cords, controllers, and games. I have a big carrying case I used instead.

I used that feature a lot.

The Vita is designed to go up to 444 CPU/222 GPU speeds, but for battery reasons Sony only permits legit games to run at 333/166.

It's a similar situation to the PSP before it, except Sony eventually allowed legit games to go up to the full speed. It's not overclocking as much as it is de-underclocking.

I still do this

I'm just gonna wait a year or two to make sure hacking the vita isn't gonna get me banned, I'm happy with my vita for now, but when I do hack it I'll certainly do that

You could overclock PSPs and they ran fine. Some games had a built in overclock feature so they make them run smoother. I think one of the God of War games had this feature where you can play at 60FPS at the cost of draining your battery faster.

man thats neat, do you get a lot of performance gain out of overlocking it?

Can it be done with PSTV?

youtube.com/watch?v=_JTZSqDfaNU

Gamecube was a beast

Eh, developers are only "forced" to use the touchscreens by their own attitudes and lack of thought. They just need to ask the question "do we really NEED to use the touch feature for this game?".

It's obviously great for navigating menus.
Some games where you have to draw or write stuff down by hand make good use of it (Brain training, okamiden, games where you have a notpad to write down important clues in)
Elite beat agents made fantastic use of it.

Holy fuck what a cute jewess

I plugged a keyboard into my 360 so I could type better on Phantasy Star Universe.

it did

...

It would actually underclock your CPU.

It's for browsing and using apps (on ps3 at least)

HENkaku comes with PSN spoofing, but yeah, if you really care about online, it isn't 100% safe. I've been pirating the vita since day 1, gone online several times but no trophy synch or anything, no bans yet.

Yeah, so it was always correctly oriented. PS2 had a gimmick where you could set it horizontally or vertically depending on what you thought looked cooler.

You can get a mount that charges it so It doesn't take up as much desk space.

cool, you can still peel the sticker off

Depends on each game. It won't increase the framecap, but games with lots of dips like Atelier work much more smoothly.

Yes, which is good because there's no battery to worry about.

I use a keyboard+mouse to play FFXIV on PS4, way better than using a garbage controller.

Pretty decent gimmick considering the 360 couldn't do it without engraving a ring into the cd

Modern Luxury Apartment for Bugs

PS2 used to support multiple screen IIRC. Not that many games utilized it.

Socom had more players than most competing fps/tps games out for a while. You needed that slot/bay for onling gaming, so anyone that gamed on ps2 online most likely used this hole.

FFXI had crazy player amounts on PS2, which required that bay.

>We'll never get it back
Thanks for reminding me.

I'm more interested than anything with that unusual percentage sign, where the first o looks like a c. Is this a European thing?

Microsoft early on talked about how devs could have the front LEDs loght up and different times for damge and shit, or even act as a health bar. I don't think any game every used it

>play FF8
>always wanted this

Except on the N3dsxl. Because it works flawless.

Mine never did. I don't know where does this meme come from. I had an old rev 360 and it was vertical for years.

Then again every game I had on it was pirated and out of like 100 games I had zero bought ones

No game used this, I think the idea was scrapped early on.

I use it to connect my v64 to it. Play any n64 game from dvd.

Turbo actually had a purpose. Though the ON was default state and OFF was only for running shitty legacy code depending on older architecture timing/slowness.
For newer boxes it did nothing because it was just a relic on the AT case connected to nothing inside.

PSOne was super light and comfy, I liked it more than the original. Didn't have pocketstation though. Good stuff.

Mine never Red ringed, didn't mean it wasn't a widespread thing.

Dreamcast had a unused feature where you could create custom art to display on your memory card when browsing the home menu or in certain games. You could also share your art with other Dreamcast users online.

>he doesn't know that overlaying two images in parallax actually increases the perceived screen resolution

scrubs all of you

That only happens if it moves while it's turned on with a disc in it.

My trophies synced accidentally and I'm still not banned, lol.

It was about 1/3 as good as the Vive or Rift. But acceptable. I bet PS4 pro "enhanced" titles will benefit, because the dropped frames and subpar tracking is noticeable if you have used other HMDs.

Mine never did either. And I played the fuck out of it to be honest.

I had no idea the buttons flipped up like that to put it in the console.

Which is the point. it didn't happen with the PS2 meaning you didn't have to go through a set of procedures to tilt your 360

Doesn't change the fact it's still blocky as fuck and looks nowhere near as good as OLED.
Also it's annoying to hold it at roughly same distance for effect to work if you don't have Nintendo length hands.

I stored my games in that bay

I just did that to my PS2 Slim that I had since like 6 years ago.

You blew my fucking mind.

The PC version of FF8 comes with that as a minigame and you can pass items over too

Was that weird port next to the USBs ever useful for anything? They scrapped it in the later models.

I hear it wasn't even properly wired up to anything inside.

The ilink port is pretty much firewire and seems it was used for system link for some games instead of using ethernet or something.

I remember they used them for microphones on shitty singing games, that's about it.

Not many people knew you could hook up your original Xbox to your PC and do system link through it to play with other people online. That's how people played Halo online before Xbox Live was created and how people still played online without paying a penny for a Xbox Live subscription.

Indeed, the Pokémon XD version was just a bunch of stickers all over the GameCube.

Still looks good, IMHO.

it's gameboy advance not advanced REEEEEEEE

How many actually used that?

Didn't the stickers just come with a preorder of the game? The limited edition gamecube bundle looked like pic related

>Turbo
>MHz

I only used the network part. Played the fuck out of Resident Evil Outbreak and Monster Hunter back then.

Old ass replies, but he is correct.
You have to purchase the game for the PS3 for another license key. Although it does come with another 30 days.

BUT. FFXIV on the PS3 is so fucking bad. Especially if you've been playing PC.
Fewer options, shit graphics, and everything takes forever to load. Even with an SSD installed to the PS3 it's still pretty slow.
If you're on an active or popular server, it's painful.
Plus they are likely dropping support for it soon, as less and less features are being added to PS3 in patches.

...

Early download services.

This, 3d screen is the worst gimmick ever made. I even stopped watching movies in cinema because of this bullshit. 3d is only good with VR goggles and even then it kinda suck.

PS2 had a convoluted online setup. It was a fucking headache to figure out to play online with SSX3.

But did they have dlc?

It was cool that you could download free DLC on Dreamcast and share your Chaos online in Sonic Adventure

youtu.be/D2XbCH7S9qs?t=131

>TV button
You realize that thing's a universal remote right? You can turn on your TV, change the inputs, adjust the volume and play your game all with the one device.

Wii U Gamepad is the shit.

the only things I remember that being used for were connecting to pc and you could charge through it also

also cameras like pic related

>PSP USB port
>Underused

Hell no user. What rock do you live under?

open the picture

I don't believe surfing the web was ever really viable on the Wii.

I genuinely didn't know this could be done for FFXIV, fuck I leveled to 50 using a controller like a hack

playing Outrun, Space Harrier, and Super Hang-On with 3D set to max is absolutely amazing, as if the games were always meant to be played this way

there's pretty much nothing other than Sega's old Super-Scaler games that really makes the 3DS's 3D seem like a worthwhile feature, though

Me and my brother actually started browsing Cred Forums on the wii browser tho
we could afford a Wii but not a pc

When I was in middle school I used it to watch Naruto and Bleach AMV's on Google Video.

Welp, I mean you're right. I completely forgot about that version.

The thing is, the stickers and that name plate would make a great combination for those who got both things as a pack.

The lightbar on the Dualshock 4 does this.

Wasn't that because some backwater countries charged lower tariffs on computers then toys, hence Sony supporting Linux on the PS2/3?

>google video

Are you trying to give me a nostalgia attack or something

There was a Xena game and a Hercules game that both came out and you were supposed to be able to use the IR functionality between two gameboys each with one of the game installed to allow one character to play in the other character's game.

>we could afford a Wii but not a pc
I'm so sorry.

Check Character Configuration settings, there's a toggle button between controller mode and keyboard+mouse mode.

You can't even see the light change when you're playing a game, unless you hold the controller in front of your eyes

>tfw my fat PS2 only works when standing upright
never knew I could rotate the logo though

got a slim PS2 with a swap lid to replace the fattie

I never knew that was replaceable.

That doesn't change the fact that it does it. I have fucking electrical tape on mine, but that doesn't mean the feature doesn't exist.

you're fucking retarded right?

This was how I spent most of my time until I finally got a laptop in 2009. It was shit but it worked for pretty much anything except flash movies. Watched a lot of let's plays on it.

I used it to watch Youtube, and there was a brief time when people made web games that worked with the Wiimote.

Not like anyone used rumble paks you fucking cocksucker.

Memory card, rumble pak, and that Pokémon Stadium thing to connect to your game boy games.

Dreamcast had multiple web browsers you could use, magazines and demo discs used to come with different browsers. I can't remember anyone using it.

I remember seeing something about that on tv, maybe G4, I tried some of them and they were just terrible flash games with clunky controls.

This. It's fucking amazing in those games, and even certain Mega Drive games they also released in the Sega 3D Classics series benefit (mainly Streets of Rage, really helps with depth perception).

That is an unused HDMI out port. Sony decided to not release the cable accessory, so they could instead release the TV Vita. Read up.

This makes me wonder if it's compatible with the 3DS IR?

I remember I did this once, completely fucked over the disc that was in it.
I was completely shocked when it happened, considering I had kept my Wii on the floor for a time and my cat had a habit of knocking it over while I was playing it with no effect on the game or disc whatsoever.

..memory cards.

Did you know this thing on the back of the 360 controller is meant to be used for batteries! :O

Gamecube is capable of supporting 3D televisions but if I can recall correctly only 1-2 games supported it and it was a hidden feature.

>backtouch pad is used in launch games
Oh you should try it out on other games. I can name at least 5 that use the back touchpad but they're all Atelier games. There's also a bunch of new indie games and they support it.

It's written in the play&charge instruction booklet.

N64 literally invented rumbling so yeah, they did.

Also

>what is StarFox 64

Who else actually paid money for it? They ended up refunding everyone the 500 points too.

I used them to buy smb3

Played way too much PSO on the 56k GC modem. It worked well until my brother would call kicking me offline.

D-pad and L button were only used in a couple games

I got the channel for free but then later they started charging money for it, such bullshit.

The opera browser? It works.
I've just used it some days ago. It's free though.
So you may be talking about realease time eh

>2016
not making your dreamcast a personal PC

The fact that ignoring the center handle and C buttons turns it into a SNES controller makes me wonder if they had originally planned on some backwards compatibility.

It only happens because microsoft didn't want to spend like 20c or something per console on some extra part iirc.

>Personal PC
>Personal Personal Computer

?

Could have cleaned the shell at least.

Why did this die?

A long time ago I gutted my old Gamecube and used it as a lunchbox. It could barely hold a granola bar, but it was the tightest shit on the playground.

>How many actually used that?

Conker's Bad Fur Day
Rogue Squadron
Battle for Naboo
World Driver Championship
Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine
Resident Evil 2 I think used its power for asset decompression

Not too many other things used it

It was free at launch and then after the intro period you had to buy it. Then like a year later they decided to make it free and refunded anyone who had bought it.

I would love to make tiny pc's out of old consoles but the cooling would be awful, at least if you wanted anything more than a internet machine.

Microsoft eventually let you store save data on USBs, so there was no point to a overpriced memory card.

Because HDDs are much simpler and when not dealing with installing full games to them, basically bottomless.

Usb drive implementation

Clean that shit

I don't even understand how the console looks like it has the same type of dirt as my controllers.
I mean, it makes sense for controllers since you hold them in your hand the entire time

Back in 2006 it was cool to plug it on a showcase xbox 360 and get cool things for games

Do any companies still make thicckers? The stickers for XD had a cool texture and feel.

>IDE
might as well just kill yourself

You could make a nice home theatre PC with small form factor parts and low TDP hardware like APUs or those passively cooled GPUs.

Holy shit, I completely forgot about that! I remember begging my mom for the points.

I also spent the refund on SMB3.

DUDE

shut up moron

>he fell for the SATA meme

Sure but I'd never use it, I already have a mini itx gaming pc for my living room. Can't wait till the future where pcs are energy efficient enough to make airflow irrelevant.

StarCraft 64 used it to unlock the Brood War stuff.

He's talking about the contacts for a charging dock (?)

>not owning a gameboy player
AHAHAHAHAHAH poorfags everywhere

WEED

It's a "care of" symbol, used for posting to a company, but with a specific contact, i.e. Cred Forums¶ ℅ Hiroyuki Nishimura. Guessing that poster mistook it for a percentage, although why someone would be looking in charmap for a % I don't know.

LAMO

More like...hold on...*rips a fat bong*....more like....duuUUuuudde.

You could install and run Linux on PS3 until Sony patched it out due to possible exploits.

PS2 also had a Linux disc you could install to the HDD.

meme spouting retard

Fuckoff I own over 30 vita games physically and an insane amount from ps+ and sales, my vita has been my most played gaming system of the last 4 years

Dude, like, chill out, bro.

it's a cute idea, but a literal pi zero makes a better machine
even if it really is a super fucking cute idea

I had linux in my ps3, but it caused games to load unproperly mid game, specially mgs4, so I uninstalled it and everything was alright again.

I was impressed a 2008 game like mgs4 was 33gb

(you)

faggot

I'm pretty sure the Vita had a port that was never used for anything whatsoever.

There's still like 200 South Americans still playing Halo 2 at any given time. Wasn't as laggy as I thought it'd be, but I suck shit at Halo so I didn't stay after a test round to see if I could play with other people.

You dudes totally need to mellow out. Want to try a rip?

you need to be 18+ to post on this forum

You can already turn your Dreamcast into a PC without opening it by installing Linux over the default bios, all you need is a CD-R and a burner.

I don't see the point of a HDD mod when you could do a SD card mod. Faster access times, small enough to fit inside the console, and less work involved.

1+

Why exactly are you posting here then, fellow young adult?

stop responding retard

no u

It actually depends on if you want your discs to be ate or not

Dude I'm not trolling just play an atelier game and press the back touchpad. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Singstar games used USB though

That was a preorder Item.

They sold a Platinum Gamecube when it launched that had an image of Shadow Lugia on the Faceplate.

Don't be lame, guy. It ain't gonna kill ya if you take on rip.

I don't really have an interest in the gameplay because you faggots only post waifus and shit

You're thinking of the 360.

Is this your first day off Cred Forums?

I thought that was the spot to hide weed from parents, because that's what I did when I was younger.

how did you hide the loud smell?

>Cred Forums is just Cred Forums but with one letter difference
Dude you're blowing my mind

Ah you're confusing with the Expansion Pak

Then you fuck off retard. Seriously fuck off and go to hell.

Dreamcast also does windows ce

Nah ps2 didnt like being stood up as well

You also had to order an online setup disk from Sony just to do the setup. Atleast it came with a copy of Hardware Online Arena
youtube.com/watch?v=pt9s01A5x-A

For standing horizontally silly.

you can tell when the cops are on your ass in GTA 5, it flashes blue and red annoyingly

You could already make a pc where airflow is irrelevant by getting passively cooled components but its kind of stupid, limiting and expensive. Have you seen how ridiculous and huge fanless cpu coolers are? It's hilarious.

Dreamcast has DirectX libraries and some files from Windows CE to run/port games to Dreamcast, but it doesn't actually run Windows.

maybe the analog face buttons on the ps3 controller. i think only one game used them (msg4)

youtube.com/watch?v=fM66wejxMwo

actually he is a few years late. "ps3 has no gaems" was the meme back in 2010.

I went apeshit? Lmao what?
Its not my fault you guys are raging waifufags, I have a waifu but all you guys talk about is waifus, rarely gameplay, its senran tier discussion
I don't know if the games are good or not, they're probably are

Games that used windows ce generally ran like ass afaik too.

Skip a step and install FHDB to the harddrive directly (via IDE to USB adapter).

Actual profit. You'll also have the USB adapter to install games at delicious 20MB/s.

I'm impressed it works as well as it does

Like, I know it's as trivial as getting the right frequency of bleeps on an infrared light, but still, its worked with every tv i've used

i was so pissed the ds4 got rid of this.

was excellent on the older ds's as well.

ps4 has the worst controller sony ever made

yes even worse than the sixaxis

Games that used Windows CE had like a 10%-20% performance overhead on it.

Both Factor5 Star Wars games only use it for audio decompression.

Never played it but apparently Until Dawn uses it.

youtube.com/watch?v=OuLoxOuUVUo

Yes, my housemate back in ~2006 did.

Lighten up my dude.

Though if you pay attention, that mount is interfacing with the two metal parts on the outside, not the port itsel

I use the TV button cause I lost my remote somewhere.

That's the charging port for the GamePad stand. Do you not have a charging stand for your GamePad?

Yes, it was before the redesign happened.

PS3 had a pretty troubled development, Cell was very late, overbudget and underpowered from what the design specs stated.
>Underpowered was largely because no one had taken into consideration the fact that each SPE has a different latencies for memory access - this mean't that most of the speculation was useless as real world programs got stuck waiting for data
Then Cell's yields were less than 30% (only 30% of all 1st gen Cell dies produced were working, the other 70% were scrap as either SPEs were broken or didn't perform within spec), they raised it back up to 50-60% by disabling 1 SPE for each die, this meant each Cell die only had 7 working SPEs, only 6 would be usable by developers.

Because of the lack of power even with 8 SPEs and then the removal of an SPE, Cell was no longer competitive with contemporary (for the time) consumer GPUs, so Sony dropped the second Cell unit (early PS3 had 2 Cell processors and no nVidia GPU) and quickly dropped in a custom 7800GS from nVidia.

This is part of the reason why on launch PS3 had 'no games' because most of them had to significantly rewritten for the new machine.

That's why you get a new with its super stable 3D

>XD

get out.

It doesn't use the port, only the two pads either side it.

My friend aka that kid convinced me you could save without a memory card if you turned it : (

Troll harder what?
That was my first post in the thread.
I just noticed how much of a loser you were being and decided to let you know so you could work on that.
And if not, and you decide to continue to be a no fun allowed fag, might as well kill yourself.

And not everything is trolling, pic related, maybe read it.

...

That's also the reason why mgs4 changed so much from the early trailers. They had to downgrade it.

I remember everyone hated the 3d saying it hurt their eyes and that nintendo was doomed but okay

>i think only one game used them (msg4)
Zone of Enders used those too.

I laughed, I think XD stood for either Extra Darkness or Extra Dimension or something like that, they also used it for the number for Shadow Lugia.

Dude Vita has loads of useless ports, it's maybe most of the library

this image is so jpg'd to hell it hurts to look at

the pressure sensitive triggers on the classic controller.
So underused the pro doesn't even have them, making it impossible to slowly ascend or descend in budokai tenkaichi

>1998+18
>not building a reactor chamber boss robot out of Dreamcasts

If you knew how to solder, you could solder more RAM onto your original Xbox.

Why would you want to do this? Well, many custom dashboards took advantage of the additional memory. XBMC was one of them. Also 1 game (Virtua Cop 3) could only play on Xbox if it had the additional memory available.

The soldering required to put an IDE drive in a dreamcast is ridiculous but worth it. A lot of games can be loaded via Dreamshell already through an SD card adapter that plugs into the serial port and compatibility only goes up when you install an IDE drive. You can also use an IDE to CF adapter so you don't need to get an external power source.

>Also 1 game (Virtua Cop 3) could only play on Xbox if it had the additional memory available.
How is that possible? Did they release game that didn't work on any Xbox but hacked ones with extra ram?

Could that still be done today? I only got an Xbox HUGE a few years after the 360 was out and the guy paid me to take the thing away because it was taking up too much space in his store. It's not hacked or anything and it still works perfectly as far as I can tell

>this image is so jpg'd to hell it hurts to look at
consider buying a new monitor/gpu

this triggers the degenerate

>not building a fighting mech powered by a Dreamcast and GD-R disc

youtube.com/watch?v=2N_EjMw0z8g

The game was planned for a Xbox release but was cancelled, so it remained Arcade exclusive. The arcade cabinet uses the same hardware as Xbox but with additional RAM.

it's clearly full of artifacts from being converted to jpg, look closely

thats the eyerape switch and it works just fine

Oh, thanks.

If you're thinking of the SD card adapter that plugs into the serial port, that is actually much slower than installing an IDE drive in your dreamcast. Like, much much slower.

>I can't remember anyone using it.

I know someone that donated to the Shenmue III kickstarter using a Dreamcast browser.

Except when it happened to me without moving it and fucked up the console within 45 minutes of taking it out of the box

I miss the light up 3D indicator of the 3DS small.
It would be useful for telling which minor parts of Pokemon are in 3D

>Morgan "Manjaw" Webb
>Cute

Why would I want a custom dashboard?

More features than the stock dashboard

>Copy games from the disc and play them directly from the hard drive
>Use cheat codes similar to Gameshark/Action Replay
>Dashboard is more responsive and loads faster than the default one
>Play emulators and load homebrew
>Turn your Xbox into a media center
>Use your Xbox as a FTP server
list goes on and on

Depends which dashboard you install, but basically more features:
se7ensins.com/forums/threads/every-modded-xbox-dahsboard.433141/

Me and my friends watched Advent Children on the Wii Browser on Google Video. Great times.

i remember in robopon, you could connect a TV remote with this thing and open locked chests. or something, i couldn't get it to work as a kid

i had to use this fucker for 2 years.
even a shitty laptop felt good after this

Games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing with heavy menus, the touchscreen makes navigation a breeze.

The fat Xbox could play DVDs but you needed a remote control dongle to get pass Microsoft's retarded software DRM. Luckily if you have a modded Xbox you can bypass this.

Speaking of OG Xbox, the console could actually output 720p in some games. There's a hack for Project Gothic Racing to play in 720P mode but it causes the framerate to drop badly. It's still looks nice though and the HD resolution works nice for custom dashboards like XBMC. Amazing how a 2001 released console was ahead of its time.

It literally used a GeForce 3 which was the latest PC card at the time.

iirc they worked on the MSX Virtual Console in Japan

because people seem to like ports. some ps1 models had port that i don't think was meant to be used. but people used it for piracy and cheating.

potato picture related

Did you post from your Wii

I would would be just tickled to think that some ridiculous people are or once were wiiposting

I actually turn it on a bit when I play monster hunter. Something about the 3d helps me judge distances faster than when it's off.

It was just named parallel port in the manual.

I had one of those plug in mod chips, they were cool. It let you play pirated games, use gameshark codes on the fly at the press of a button on the chip, and let you use savestates (although buggy as hell).

parallel I/O port. any idea what it was for? just for debugging at the factory or something?

Nobody used Dreamcasts ultimate feature

putting the games inside your PC and getting wallpapers/music from them

Yes, that's why it's so simple to use those piracy devices, you started the console with a legit disc and after 3 seconds you swapped to a pirated disc.

3d doesn't bother my eyes at all for some reason, so I always have it on max. It's great. MH especially benefits from the stereo vision what with all the throwing and avoiding shit, rad landscapes etc.

And as some user pointed out above, 3d makes the resolution appear sharper. I've never understood til now why everyone bitches about the resolution; it's because they are only seeing one screen.

i never got the codes to work for some reason.

and if you put those in a cd player, it started playing warning track that said it could damage the disc or something along those lines.

I owned that remote and dongle up until like 2010 when my xbox finally died. It was like 20 bucks and wasn't too troublesome to use.

>i think there was literally 1 official MIL-CD ever, some space channel 5 disc

You mean first party? Cause I remember back on underground-gamer, someone was uploading MIL-CDs, and there were dozens of them.

No, the future is there in the console, but no game ever actually used it. I remember when the 3DS was coming out, Miyamoto talked about making Luigi's Mansion a 3D game for the cube.

mine only rotates to clockwise

I wonder how things would have turned out if MS integrated HDDVD player into the console.

Might have had to delay the 360 for that though, as the HDDVD vs Bluray war didn't really start until next year at least of the 360.

That broadband expansion slot on the Dreamcast that nobody used because Sega only manufactured like three of the adapters.

...

My little brother's friend decided to play his pirated games on our playstation once.
He broke the thing.

If there was ever evidence that the 360 was rushed as fuck, that's it.

That and the 25 cent blender protection they chose to forego.

NES works okay too

HDDVD flopped so M$ dodged a bullet there

While heavily used professionally, I feel like this port don't get much use on in most homes.

It can be used for various remote control applications.

youtube.com/watch?v=t1DzOkEqGvg

Fuck 15 block memory cards.

Well no shit, the install base was nonexistent.

The PS3's printer compatibility.

That's right. The PS3 could have a printer hooked up to it. I bet you didn't even know that.

Casual.

Pretty much the entire PS4 controller is a mess.

>the light bar
When I first got it I was led to believe tons of games would be taking advantage of this. For the first year or so I only saw games like GTA or TLOU changing the color of it when doing certain things. I thought okay, that's neat, but now most games don't even bother with it. It's also bright as fuck and reflects off my tv screen, making dark areas in games tricky because you can see the reflection.

>the speaker
I always hated the thought of the speaker, and it proved to be awful with games like Shadow of Mordor or God of War 3master, where certain sounds came out of the controller in such a jarring way that it was annoying. Thankfully you can turn it off, but that renders the speaker useless. It takes up space, cost money and time to develop, and in the last two years I've only seen maybe three games take advantage of it.

>the touch pad
Again I was led to believe it'd be used creatively and allow you more freedom when gaming/emulate a mouse in certain aspects. The games that let you scroll with it, Shadow of Mordor and Mad Max (off the top of my head), were incredibly imprecise and scrolling with the thumbstick ended up being better. Games like Bound by Flame allowed you to select certain abilities by swiping it but it also doubled as the menu button so you'd go to open a menu and swipe to an ability. Now most games just treat it as a giant button that literally only acts like a button, no touch controls or anything.

Basically the Xbone's controller kicks the shit out of the PS4's and I miss the PS2 controller, aka Sony's best controller.

...

In japan the psp had some cool accessories. Like the camera, gps with anime voices, and a god damn TV antenna.

...

I heard they went from a 2nd Cell to a 7800GS because they realized that the Cell was total ass for graphics purposes.

Basically the chip was pushed for contractual reasons, even after they realized that it was awful.

The fact that it has a headphone jack is pretty sweet tho. Other than that, its a plastic piece of shit.

People also used this same proxy server exploit to cheat online in PSO. There were fucking going around joining peoples parties to deliberately crash their game, probably around the time the game autosaves so their memory card gets corrupted.

pretty fucking neat, it's a shame that most pc now have the RS-232 only as pins on the PCB and most people don't even know of its existence

Almost every racing game supported those

joke's on you op

>the speaker

Absolutely terrible, MLB the show uses it when you're pitching, the catcher will say shit "Good pitch! keep it up!" etc, so jarring I turned it off immediately.

>XD
FUCK OFF
Nah I'm just memeing, I have that GC too

Actually that's my favorite aspect of the controller. You can switch the audio settings so that it uses the controller and the headphones as the speaker, meaning I can just plug my headphones into my controller, even if it's not plugged into the console, and have the audio right there. For me that's big, and I may not know much about tech but that's impressive to me.

literally useless

Fucking subhumans

Is that a fucking TACO PHONE in the background?
I haven't seen an ngage in ages.

maybe if your a filthy casual

actual gamers used a HDD either for resident evil outbreak or final fantasy online, also you could put your saves on it to make space on your memory cards

Someone didnt play socom

No, I pull it out with my gamecube controllers when my friends are over for smash.

SNES EXPANSION PORT

I LOST THE COVER TO MINE AND FUNCOLAND WOULDNT LET ME SELL MY SNES TO THEM BECAUSE OF IT

KINDA BULLSHIT BUT AT LEAST I STILL HAVE A SNES NOW AT AGE 35

I believe legitimate stores sold bootleg memory cards here in Norway with higher capacity.

>not holding on to all consoles regardless

They made that because meleefags won't stfu about gamecube controllers.

You know the Gamecube controllers can plug in the top right?

>got one on launch day at retail price
>sold it for $80 to a nintendofag but they were in high demand and hard to find

thanks babies.

Never saw this shit irl

Satelliview you pleb.

hello my friend

>trying to sell your SNES

you don't deserve to still own it

printer port.

gran turismo 3 or 4 let you print pictures you took in photo mode

You know there's a smash for wii u right?

The 360 had a bad habit of charging for accessories that later became console standards. Here is the wifi receiver that later came bundled inside the console.

There was also the 360 webcam which later became kinect. My friend had one of the webcams and it was a piece of garbage.

yes because it was an inferior in every way to the blu-ray

I always sold games and systems I had to help pay for the next round (selling SNES games to buy PS1 games, etc). I thought that video games would only be getting better. You have no idea how much regret I have for selling all my SNES and NES games.

The HDD was a god send for late PS2 pirating.

I own something even less used

It's not a printer port, it's an 'i.link' port (Sony's bullshit name for 4pin firewire)

That's the gamepad receiver for the pc you nigger, this is the first wifi adapter.

They thought 3D games might fail so they made the controller like that.

Haha is it? My bad, I googled it and that's what came up. I guess it was so underused I didn't even know what it looked like.

Thanks for the correction, but the point still stands.

you are correct, that's an N-Gage I found at a goodwill for 3.00

>I'm full of shit, the post.

you didnt ever need the wireless receiver for the 360, that's just so you can use the wireless controllers on a PC

I had one that used primarily to view pre rendered cut scenes. would only work about 50% of the time, as it depended on the format and compression.

Well they couldn't get away with selling a wifi adapter for $80 when the ps3 had it built in from the start so the slim came with built in wifi.

I posted the wrong image and was later corrected, and admitted I was wrong. But what I said wasn't wrong, just the picture was. Sorry mates.

>Compatible with Dolphin
>Useless

When I was in middle school almost everyone in my class had a gameboy and we all used to trade Pokemon and stuff. In my entire life I've never seen anyone who actually owned the Gameboy camera. Anyone on here have one?

Not really. You can use it on a modded wii u to play GameCube backups. You can also use it in your pc to play dolphin.
